Congrats on millstones and whatever else has been going on.

I am delinquent because I woke up yesterday with what has proved to be the worst case of diverticulitis I've had. I'm used to getting a little flare-up once a year or so, but yesterday's was more intense. I had a couple of degrees of fever so I called my "primary" who advised me to go to an urgent-care center (since they had not one minute in which to see me yesterday), and if I couldn't get in, just go to an ER. Fortunately the urgent care could see me, and they explained that the reason the doc would have wanted me to be seen today is the fever. But if you keep having the pains or the fever, you do have to go to the ER and get an abdominal cat-scan and bloodwork which will tell us for sure what the problem is. By then I was feeling much better and she said okay, you get option 1, which is an antibiotic, and see if that starts to improve things. I got Cipro for my first time, and boy is it strong but I don't care. I'm on it for seven days.

FAST RECOVERING VIBES.  I know this can be rather painful.

The doctor there told me that they often don't even treat diverticulitis unless it really gets bad, because it's so common that people tend to "get used to having a flare-up" now and then and have usually figured out what to eat or drink in the meantime that works for them.

My father had it.  I'm always surprised tests have never shown that I have an issue.

Time and Monty Python have not been kind to John Houston’s A Walk with Love and Death. It plays like a straight version of The Holy Grail, which only makes it sillier in its earnestness.

From Grazie:

Not only does the Ice Cream Diet exist, but it also works.

This dietary regimen, acclaimed as the best summer weight-loss diet, was devised by Pietro Migliaccio, a nutritionist and President of the Italian Society of Nutrition.

Obviously, despite its name, it doesn’t promise weight loss in exchange for binges of ice cream in front of the TV. However, it does allow for consuming one or two ice creams a day and still losing weight. Which isn’t bad at all.

I knew a Pete Migliaccio in Naples.  He first started the Naples LIttle Theater in the early 70s.  By the time I arrived in Naples and joined the group, he had withdrawn because he was head of the school teacher's union, Naples chapter, a Department of Defense school system.

When Pete's tour as the union president ended, I was leaving Naples.  When I returned 10 years later, he was still there and it was he who approached me about re-starting the "NLT" theater company.  Many things had changed, however.  A major earthquake in the early 1980s had caused a lot of "local" damage that saw military families moving further away from the base.  Further away meant more time on the road to and from the theater for rehearsals.  And with that, bit parts and/or chorus only cast members simply would not show up.  Logistics!!

Back to Pete:  He was a native New Yorker who retired from the DODs school system in 1988.  He went back to New York in June, was diagnosed with cancer and died within a month of the diagnosis.  Not the same "Pietro" Migliaccio, obviously, but it was a common name for Italian-Americans and Italians alike.

The Pink Panther Strikes Again.....it ended Saturday night.

Today we start the process with a read thru of Flowers For Algernon.....for which i am happy to repor that we have an entire cast.....although two people who are in Something Rotten playing small parts will not join us until that show ends in August.

May we look forward to references to "FF"?  Or will it be "FFA"?

elmore, the A/C/heat has a thermostat - it just occasionally blows tepid air when it should be cold. When it was fixed the last time the guy who did the work couldn't figure out why because it didn't do it while he was here. We've called him twice since but it doesn't do it when he finally comes. Otherwise, it works fine.

My story about the weather:

It used to rain in Phoenix in July. Now it's mostly just wind

If we get a cloud in the sky, they'll issue a flood watch.

I always find it interesting to watch trees being removed, at least for awhile and not the entire time.

Today's noir is an ugly, fascinating tale called The Good Die Young, with a great cast including Laurence Harvey, Gloria Grahame, Richard Basehart, Joan Collins, Margaret Leighton and Robert Morley.
