I’m enjoying a scoop of coffee ice cream and a scoop of coconut. It’s that kind of a Friday.

Listening to the recent Rodgers and Hammerstein concert that was on PBS. Can’t say I am enjoying it, though. It’s mostly adequate, rarely inspired, occasionally insipid. I surprisingly dislike Maria Friedman, especially on Shall We Dance. Or Shall We Dunce, as she pronounces it a couple of times. She screws up one lyric, but the King, when he repeats it, gets it right. Take that, Missy Anna!

Lest we forget a big movie is opening today.

I haven't forgotten, and to prove it, I've been trying to post this Hugh Jackman Broadway premium pricing parody anywhere I can! :)

With excitement building for the new Hugh Jackman movie opening this week: Feels like as good a time as any for a reminder of how regular-income folks afford premium ticket prices whenever Hugh Jackman does a Broadway show

Could it have been intentional, to artificially create a collector's item?

We are home. It was a long day of driving, but thankfully there were no problems or difficulties.

Welcome home.  I thought you might vacation a bit on your way home.

I can't imagine this, or that anyone expected the book to be as big a hit as it was.

We had this wonderful book shop in Ashland we spent a good amount of time browsing, and playing with the store cat.  I remember Keith purchased a set of the first three Harry Potter books.  I was pretty sure, though I hadn't read any of them yet, that Keith was expected more from them.  I said it won't be The Chronicles of Narnia.

The first Harry Potter book got by everyone, dealers included. The first UK printing was about 500 hardcover copies and probably a like amount for the softcover, which were published at the same time. The copyright page info on Heritage is incorrect - it's not the wrong initial, it's NO initial - Joanne Rowling is the error, rather than the usual J.K. Rowling. Fixed for all subsequent printings. Most of the hardcovers went to libraries. I was regularly receiving catalogues from a bunch of English dealers - the Harry Potter book was there, but I was mostly buying mysteries. I should have grabbed one pronto, as I frequently took chances on books from other genres that looked interesting.

Thank you. That was from the WaPo’s internal book column, not in print.

I loved the Nichols and May records, and many other great comedy records, which is how I got to know many of the people who also made it big on screen. But something happened when certain movies came out - LUV, A NEW LEAF, and others - but not all - in the late-60s, mid-70s, with some of my favorite people in them, just didn't call to me. Or I saw a couple of them and wasn't impressed. And yet others in the same period did, and still stand out as favorites. There's no real logic to it.

In fact, I never saw the LUV movie for decades - until the DVD had been out for a while and I finally bought it. Oy. I think I might have enjoyed one or two moments in it, but they're forgotten now. And yet I'd loved the play, from listening to the complete recording on Columbia and "seeing" it all in my head, to seeing it on tour with Dorothy Loudon, etc.  But when some of these movies came out, "something" (cue spooky music) told me to not bother. And it was probably right in most cases.

Have you heard (of) the musical version called What About Luv? with Judy Kaye and her husband (I think), David Green?

Lest we forget a big movie is opening today.

This is my favorite line from the Indiewire review:

By that measure, Shawn Levy’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” is triumphantly half-successful — which makes it more successful by half than anything else Shawn Levy has ever directed.

When I picked up a prescription at cvs today, the pharmacist wanted to give me a flu shot. She said it's going to get very busy after a couple of weeks, and they won't take walk-ins, only appointments. An updated covid shot is coming soon.

I've never had a flu shot this early before, but she really wanted me to have it. So that's done.

She also said there's lots of covid out there right now. It is putting people in the hospital. So I'll be glad to get that new shot in a few weeks.

I meant the King gets the lyric right, even when she got it wrong the first time.
