I’m going through some old files — this week health insurance. Many years of EOBs (Explanation of Benefits). Yesterday I spotted something interesting. Year before last I went to a new dermatologist. Among other things I showed her a mole that has changed repeatedly — a danger sign. She said she’d check with my insurance about removing it. She then went on vacation and I didn’t hear from her. A couple weeks later her office called me on another matter and I asked whether she’d remove the mole. They said there was nothing about it in her notes, but they’d Chechen with her. The doctor said she didn’t remember it. We went round and round and she gave me a different reply each time, finally saying, It’s not malignant.” (How would you know if you can’t even recall looking at it?) Annoyed, I changed dermatologists and had the mole removed. Yesterday, as I was clearing out these files I noticed a charge from her office, on the day of my visit, to Medicare for a shave biopsy. Very interesting! Is that why she was being so squirrelly? I was not charged anything, but it sure looks suspicious. I’ll mention it to my PCP.
