Been working on The Spitfire Grill for the couple of rehearsals I'm playing next week, and it's really grown on me.

The little I know of its history and its story is that it takes place in rural Wisconsin. But prior to knowing that, the songs and the scoring said "Appalachia" to me from the get-go. They still do. Am I so wrong? I'm sure I'm not supposed to think that a "rural" sound in music is always supposed to mean it's Appalachian, but...

DR Elmore, do you know this one?

EDIT:  I've never yet seen the original movie, but will make a point of doing so.

I've never seen the movie (nor read the original book), but I love this show!  I've seen two different productions, and Lakewood Playhouse is going to do it next year.  I definitely want to see that. :)

Two of my great-grandparents had siblings who settled in London, so I've got lots of 3rd cousin-y folks in the area. I've met several of them on my Mom's side but not the ones on my Dad's side yet.

The Liberal Jewish Cemetery. Is that possibly the same cemetery.  I googled it and it says Willesden.

No, but it’s next to the one I meant, the United Synagogue cemetery. I haven’t been to the Liberal Jewish cemetery, I wonder if I have relatives there too?

Interesting. My father's mother's first cousin was religious.  I wonder if he was buried at the United Synagogue Cemetery.

My grandmother, my mother's mother, was not Jewish.  My Jewish stepgrandfather buried her there, which I'm sure she was fine with.  It is a very nice place.  There were green glass stones in a decorative area in front of her headstone. I have one on my desk I brought back with me.

Yes, United Synagogue is Orthodox so your maternal grandmother wouldn't be buried there.

You can find who is buried at United Synagogue cemeteries online: https://theus.org.uk/what-we-do/burial/find-a-grave/

I'll have to see if there's something similar for the Liberal Jewish cemetery; I suspect there is.

Yesterday the gentleman playing the lead brought in the "hospital bed" that is used in one scene - to bring him in after the operation.

As I was talking before the rehearsal I said thanks....and he mentioned that it came from his job.  I kept talking....and then I realized.....and hesitated.....

His job is at a funeral home.....which means....that the device he brought.....is used for......well.....
I
I stopped another moment....and told him I just realized what he said and he replied...."It's the most action it has ever or will ever see......"

I wonder if you will credit its provenance in the program?

I was up until two-thirty with the commentary - I refuse to write again what I've already written, but the searching is beyond frustrating. One thing I was able to do that worked was find a video on YouTube that identified the show number and theme and from there Spotlight finally found it under the show number.

Thanks for the link.  Keith does genealogy and I know he looked up where my grandmother was buried before we went there.

DR RON PULLIAM the program copy has already been submitted, so it will have to be announced in the curtain speech or on a notice in the lobby......

Now I am curious where the cousin is buried.  Unless there is another Orthodox cemetery I expect he is at United Synogugue.  Once Keith is free I will ask him if he has the information in his records.

My cousins, like my family, changed their last name.  I'm not sure which generation made the change.  I'll find that out before looking for his grave.

I've never seen the film or show. I have the memory that our DR slingshot sent me the mp3 files of the recording. I do know the composer, a very wonderful gentleman.

According to IMDB, the movie takes place in Maine, not Wisconsin.

I'm not getting two shots in the same arm (can't do the right arm), and don't long doing more than one vaccination at a time anyway. We will get our flu shots next week on the day we booked for the covid ones.

I'm definitely getting both shots, but I am hesitant to get them so early in the season.

Covid is here.  We also have a reason to get them now.  We are attending a wedding and don't want to catch covid or the flu before our Southwest National Parks trip.

Every year, new foods are introduced at the State Fair. Here is one of this year's new entries:

PB Bacon Cakes

Thick-cut bacon, dipped in pancake batter, griddled and topped with peanut butter whipped cream, grape jelly, and banana chips.
