Ushering for a show about Miles Davis this morning. Nothing like Bitches’ Brew at 9:30 am?

Last night was grueling and I am dead tired this morning.

Resting, recovering, and eating an okay but slightly disappointing bagel.

The bagel in question is Onion and Swiss cheese. At the store I could see some crusty Swiss on it and was interested in trying it. The onion component is fine, but onion bagels already exist. I’d just like more of the Swiss, which seems like it shouldn’t be difficult to manage, but maybe it is.

Elmore, are you going to see Gypsy?

No. Have you seen the ticket prices? It's outrageous.

Last night, because I really like the score for the musical Fields of Ambrosia, I decided to watch its source, the movie The Traveling Executioner, starring Stacy Keach. I got aboput 20 minutes into it when the low volume on the DVD would go no higher on my television and I can only watch it on my computer. I'll try to do that between now and Sunday.

Paraphrasing GYPSY pricing joke seen on Facebook:

Box office:  "That's 440 each, total for the pair is 880 bucks."

GYPSY fan: "You ain't gettin' 880 bucks from me!"

I read recently that a rewritten version of that show was being tried out. Was it on Playbill.com?

The students this morning were all elementary students, so no Bitches' Brew. In fact, the jazz band honored Davis in a unique way: No trumpeter. But the music was great. There was a piano player, tenor and alto sax, drums and bass. And they played beautifully.

Meanwhile, there was a narrator on stage and recordings of Davis telling his story, plus visuals. It was a bit of a hagiography. No mention of drugs or his mental health state, abusing Cicely Tyson or anything negative. But the music was great. And the kids were attentive.

The olive oil had plenty of garlic in it, so the visit is off to a good start.
