It's filled, of course, with remarkable performances: Peter Sellers, Shirley MacLaine, Melvyn Douglas. But I think it's Richard Dysart who's most welcome to me. I forgot what a wonderful character actor he was.

The movie remains timely and relevant. Almost bleakly so.

I thought this was kind of interesting. A jazz pianist who has never heard "Defying Gravity" before analyzes it harmonically.

There's a lot going on under the hood.

Interesting.

However, it seems (to me) that he also doesn't know who Stephen Schwartz is, and that he has over 50 years experience of writing music, especially for Broadway and theeder, and really does know what he's doing. ::)

And speaking of theeder, I just came across this audio-only video of Shinbone Alley, the 1960 Play of the Week, starring Eddie Bracken, Tammy Grimes, Jules Munshin.

Here's the description of the video:

Shinbone Alley was a 1957 Broadway musical adaptation of the characters of archy and mehitabel created by Don Marquis, written by Joe Darion, George Kleinsinger, and a young Mel Brooks who helped Darion with the book. Though the show only played for 49 performances and 9 previews on Broadway, it was adapted for the NTA Film Network's series Play of the Week in 1960. Tammy Grimes played Eartha Kitt's role, Eddie Bracken reprised his role as archy, and Michael Kermoyan, Sondra Lee and Jules Munshin were also in the cast. J. Robert Blum and Ed Greenberg directed the piece for TV.

Though no video is known to survive, there is audio of the musical numbers (and some of the dialogue) from the telecast, which is presented here.

Taken from a vinyl record copy of the songs.

Today, the management of our building replaced the toilet, which has not been working well for a long, long time.

This new one flushes like gangbusters. It could take your finger off!

Congrats on the new toilet, Singdaw!  And watch those fingers...I mean, why would your fingers be in the toilet anyway?? :o

Does the new toilet function as a bidet?

If it could take a finger off, I would HATE to use it as a bidet!! :o

Planted some pansies and violas. Hopefully they will last the winter.

I love pansies.

I do, too.  I have too...I know so many! :D

I remember having to watch it when I was in high school.  I forget for what class, though.

I watched the alternate ending of Being There. I’m glad Ashby went with the one he chose. I loved the movie all over again.
