Voldemort is basically a middle school girl: he has a locket, a diary, a tiara, a ring, and is completely obsessed with a teenage boy.

I slept well until  sometime around 2:30; the last three hours were endless, listening to the cats run around and cuddling with A & T.

Yesterday morning, when I checked my bank account online, I was $26.00 overdrawn. I was so rattled that I spent too much time between 2:30 and 5:30 fretting over how much worse it might be today. So, I spent some time debating my options. Since my union pension will not land until Jan. 2 and I'm not expecting any DR to win the lottery and give me a ouple of million, I decided that I cannot afford to move from the apartment until 2025.

So, around 3:30 this morning, I called Access-a-Ride and canceled today's trips to CVS for the vaccines. I needed all my AAR cash in the apartment - you have to pay for the rides in cash, and I've got $60 in singles here at the moment -  to make a bank deposit this week to cover the overdraft.

At 6:00 this morning I canceled my CVS appointment. I can reschedule after Jan. 2, and then I checked my bank account online to see if the overdraft had become larger. Well, knock me over! I am no longer overdrawn, and I have a bank balance of $2.50.

I can transpose to any key, I supposedly have a high IQ, the number for which I have never known, I can read Latin and French, I'm a whiz at English grammar, but I have never been able to balance a checkbook or manage money. Go figure./

so if any DR wins the Big Lottery, I'd happily accept $2,000,000. That should keep me solvent through the end of my days and give me enough to record Jubilee. If you want to give me $3,000,000, I can also record Babes in Toyland. And you have a nice tax write-off.

I've made a note of those figures, DR Elmore, and will keep an eye on my winnings.

I can balance a checkbook.

My only problem in doing so is that I always run out of numbers too soon!

I did get one bit of good news this morning: John Wilson sent me a thank you for his Christmas card. He's recording in the spring the new edition of Guys and Dolls that Jason Buell and I co-edited in 2017.

Speaking of running out of numbers, it is currently one degree outside.

One.  Count it.

We have one degree.

Well, here's today's shocker. Yesterday morning, around 7:30, a sleeping woman was burned alive in a subway car. A Guatemalan man has been held by police.

That was another reason to cancel CVS today. Who wants to be outside?

Elmote, your talk of zeroes has me singing Five Zeroes from On the Twentieth Century, which I dearly love. I am hoping you get your wish.
