I remember in the early 70's, I think, Donald O'Conner had a talk show.....one day his guests were Rod Serling and Keefe Brasselle who had written a "novel" about his experience at CBS.

Rod was talking about his appearance in one of his movies - he had a cameo.

Finally he just started laughing and Donald asked him was was funny. Rod said: "We are. Look at us - a writer trying to an actor, an actor trying to be a writer, and a hoofer trying to be a talk show host."

On another episode singer Joan Baez was on.....her husband had just been jailed for draft evasion and she was filing bankruptcy.

She sang one song in her inimitable style but would not respond to any questions from Donald.

Finally she just said: "You've got your stupid questions there on those cards, just ask them."

Donald looked at her a few seconds, then set the cards down and said: "Okay, sister, I'll ask you. How does it feel to be up the river?"
