Keith reminded me of the time he was on the cross trainer at the Ashland Y and saw a fire near the area I was hiking.  Worried he called to see if I was ok and then told me to get out of there.  Fortunately I was almost at the end of the trail.  When I emerged was the wooded trail I was shocked to see a major fire across the road from my car.

My local library branch, which has been closed since the election for renovations, is reopening Sunday. Great news for me.

Anita Bryant has died, according to a story dated today. I thought she had died long ago.

According to her Wikipedia page, she died December 16, 2024.

Report from the ‘hood:

I went out today to run a few errands. The air was not bad when I left, but by the time I got to Trader Joe’s it was horrible. Just a few blocks away, but a significant difference. Smoky and even biting. On to the taco shop (enchiladas today). While waiting for my food everyone’s cell phone blared at the same time: we needed to evacuate. It tuned out to be a false alarm, but it really does cause you to think about what’s most important.

While at Trader Joe’s I saw small groups of people clustered in different aisles, all talking up a storm. Many were strangers. People just needed to talk to someone, to connect, as we go through a bizarre experience together.

The streets were quiet, not many people left home today. Like a holiday.

I’m still in shock and grieving the loss of the Pacific Palisades and parts of Brentwood and Santa Monica. Never, ever, did I think this was a possibility.
