DR elmore - It wasn't hot goods.  In other words, it was not cheap porn.

I do believe Roscoe's was the first chicken and waffles emporium, and it's been here over twenty years, maybe more.  These other jernts suddenly just hop on the old Roscoe's bandwagon, is that it?

As a child I always wondered why a cheeseburger had cheese, a baconburger had bacon, but a hamburger had no ham.

Tonight I was making us hamburgers--mine on an onion roll and Joe's on a Thomas's English Muffin, and there was the left-over sliced ham  in the frij, so I said, "Why not?"  "Why not?" I said, and I put a few slices on mine, topped with baby swiss.

It was really quite tasty.

Joe said, "Yuck!"

The end.

I am going to spend my weekend locked in my room writing a paper for the dreaded Dr. C. Eight pages on the theme of identity and how it relates to postcoloniality.

The urge to make a tasteless joke is almost overwhelming.

Excellent news.  Now if we can just get Matt H's magical weather forecasters to push back the hurricane completely we'll be all set.

Hummm.... even The President could not do that!!

If I'm remembering correctly, Roscoe's was inspired by some East Coast emporium.

Good eve to all.

I'm back from another lovely evening in Chelsea, where I had dinner with friends and then saw a fun little show called DANCES WITH PITCHFORKS. It's the true story about a young non-Equity actor who was cast as a chorus boy/understudy in the Paper Mill production of GYPSY with Ms. Betty Buckley and Ms. Debbie "Deborah" Gibson. He was so excited to be cast with stars of such magnitude until he witnessed Ms. Buckley's first in a long line of meltdowns during a rehearsal.

He began sending email updates to his friends - only a few at first and worked his way up to about 65 people - about rehearsals and Ms. Buckley's rants and raves and tantrums until he started hearing rumors that his emails had been forwarded all around town. He quit writing the emails but continued to hear from BIG industry people that they were finding his stories to be quite amusing. And then it happened...one of his emails was printed in the New York Daily News!!

This is an approximation of the content of that email:

"Deborah and Betty were at lunch with the rest of the cast today when Betty leaned over to Deborah and said, 'I was telling someone the other day about my dogs being in the show and they just couldn't have been happier.' Deborah asked, 'Oh? Who'd you tell?' and Ms. Buckley replied, 'My parrot.'"

And then there were stories of her yelling her head off at the script supervisor because he didn't give her her lines - even though she never asked for him to and had done the role once before.

And the time she instisted that Paper Mill hire a shaman to come in and spiritually cleanse her costumes because her understudy had worn them the week before....

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall...

Instead of watching THE BOSTONIANS, I spent much of the early evening watchning Season 7 of WILL & GRACE. I don't know why really, but the DVD-RAM I had made was sitting there, and I just put it in the player and watched about 6 episodes. Some were pretty good; some were pretty bad. None achieved the hilarious vivacity of the first three seasons.

I think over the years and especially in these last two seasons, the character of Grace has become almost unbearably selfish and needy. In several of those episodes I watched tonight, I truly wanted to wring her neck.

I am NOT going to buy another version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC; I don't care how many remasterings they do to it. I don't care how many more special features they cram into the package.

When this new edition was announced some months ago, I put the DVD into the player, and it looked perfectly fine to me. So, no more SOUND OF MUSIC.

I halfc watched half listened toa new show called "Inconceivable" about a fertility clinic.  Since we have some friends who went through route, one couple successfully and other not. I found it hard to sit through as some of the stuff cut a little too close to the bone

Did anyone else see it and what were your thoughts?

I'm buying the new STATE FAIR because the 1962 version is included as a bonus feature.

I'm buying the new OKLAHOMA because the new edition is anamorphic, and I didn't buy the last one since it wasn't anamorphic and I already had OKLAHOMA on that laserdisc that looked wonderful.

I will skip to INCONCEIVABLE since DR vixmom asked about others' thoughts.

It has gotten some of the worst reviews of any new show this season. In fact, I don't think I read a single critic who thought the show was worthy of being on network TV.

I thought it was VERY entertaining, and this is coming from someone who was definitely born without the parenting gene. But the stories were all quite interesting, the cast was a nice mix of folks I'll look forward to getting to know (bk's friend Kevin Chamberlin is one of the regular cast members), and I found it an entertaining way to pass the hour without bloodshed, murder investigations, or clues dropping from the sky.

In between my WILL & GRACE marathon and INCONCEIVABLE came the second episode (third hour) of CBS' THRESHOLD.

OK, I see how they're going to run the show. Each week, the team will investigate situations where people may have become infected by the video and audio signal that has the power to mutate a person's blood/DNA to become an alien.

As before, there were a couple of effective "boo!" moments that made me jump, but it's definitely an action oriented series with (so far) little to no character development. I really like shows to have some of both, and this one amps up the suspense and pace at the expense of moving around a bunch of cardboard characters.

One more chance before I sign off on this. The peopple just are not compelling enough to keep me hooked.

I am still watching that 1967 non-classic FRIGHT NIGHT. I took an 8 hour break from it and now I am watching it again. The leading lady, who looks a bit like a slightly more mature June Kenney...with a thick southern accent...is about to go into the woods to get her teenage sister, who is dancing the watusi, the monkey, the swim, and the twist with her teenage friends, to come home. I imagine she will come face to face with the monster thing that is at this very moment killing the deputy...I think...it is very dark in the scene and difficult to make out what is going on. I think the producers did not want any one to see what the monster suit really looks like.

If it was Christopher Plummer and Dan Truhitte in the shower together, maybe, but since it wasn't. . . .
