I'm almost always up for steak Diane or steak Oscar. Especially if someone else is paying.

I only had Steak Diane once, in January 1987, shortly after Vixdad had proposed , he took me to a lovely little restaurant ( alas long gone) called The Frog and Peach.

The steak was delicious and the presentation spectacular.

I love steak.  I have occasionally been to some high end restaurants where I was treated to some lovely filet mignon (always medium rare).

I rarely want anything on my steak but some salt, but the occasional Bernaise  sauce or a sherry wine sauce is ok, but I generally prefer to let the meat flavor shine on its own.

Complete agreement.

So, was that your story? The Frog and the Peach?

Watching the extras on Sunset Boulevard. They're almost Criterion like in depth.

Met a friend this morning for breakfast at a chain called the Black Bear Diner. No surcharge for eggs. Very nice meal.

Good to see Steve. He’s starting radiation today for some skin cancer on his head.

There used to be a Black Bear Diner in Olympia, but it closed quite a few years ago.  Then it became an El Sarape, and now I think it's something else again. :-\

Black Bear Diner! There was one in Walnut Creek, CA. Maybe still is. That place knew how to do a breakfast!

I did not need to eat for the rest of the day.

I did not have a steak, with or without horseradish sauce.

There are 3 very good upscale chains in the Vancouver BC area.
The Keg
Earl’s
Cactus Club

The Keg has the best steaks. Had a filet there on Friday night. Medium rare.

Below them are two lesser chains. Both still above most American sit-down chains.

Then there is White Spot. More of a family vibe. Like a Perkin’s. But better.

Remember Steak and Ale? That was like out of my family’s price range growing up. My uncle took me to one in El Paso once.

Tad’s Steaks in NYC was a good, cheap steak.

There was a Beefsteak Charlie’s on 8th Avenue the first few years I lived in NYC.
