There are 3 very good upscale chains in the Vancouver BC area.
The Keg
Earl’s
Cactus Club

The Keg has the best steaks. Had a filet there on Friday night. Medium rare.

Oh we ate at The Keg in Banth and in Grande Prairie. They were both very good.

Jumping right onto the TOD:

I love steak!  Adore it, actually.

Best steaks I ever ate -- every one my dad grilled for me was perfection -- "pink" on the inside...not bloody, not gray.  I learned to eat N.Y. strips in Italy at our base steak house.  All Italian cooks, and they grilled my steak to perfection, as well, and served each one with half a lemon...which got squeezed onto the steak.  It's only good for N.Y. strips, in my experience.

Christine's Farm to Fork in downtown Edgefield SC does a marvelous filet.  And the steak house at the Naval Support Activity Naples used to serve an 8 oz. filet topped with mushrooms.  Simply to die for.

So, yes, i love steak.

I also love grilling or pan frying my own steaks, but nothing I make for myself ever seems better than when someone else does it really well.

Heaven forfend.  On a good prime rib bite, sure.  But I'd never desecrate steak with anything that detracts from the wonderful taste of a great steak.

Also, I didn't mention that the York production, prior to the move to New World Stages, starred Emma Degerstedt as the potential nun. The girl I saw was very good, but Emma is fantastic. She plays in the Outside the Box Taxi Driver episode as Betsy. Also, of the LA company, I liked the sheriff best - beautiful voice, subtle with the comedy - I'd use him for Kritzerland.

I remember seeing Emma Degerstedt almost 20 years ago in the L.A. premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s “13”. She was terrific, and I knew even then that she would be successful.

Keens Steakhouse in New York has great steaks and a fascinating history.

There’s a video that I will attach in my next post.

Keens Steakhouse owns the largest collection of churchwarden pipes in the world. The tradition of checking one's pipe at the inn had its origins in 17th century Merrie Old England where travelers kept their clay at their favorite inn - the thin stemmed pipe being too fragile to be carried in purse or saddlebag. Pipe smoking was known since Elizabethan times to be beneficial for dissipating "evil homourse of the brain." Keens's pipe tradition began in the early 20th century.

The hard clay churchwarden pipes were brought from the Netherlands and as many as 50,000 were ordered every three years. A pipe warden registered and stored the pipes, while pipe boys returned the pipes from storage to the patrons.

The membership roster of the Pipe Club contained over ninety thousand names, including those of Teddy Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, Will Rogers, Billy Rose, Grace Moore, Albert Einstein, George M. Cohan, J.P. Morgan, Stanford White, John Barrymore, David Belasco, Adlai Stevenson, General Douglas MacArthur and "Buffalo Bill" Cody.

We've had so many happy occasions with Bill and Maureen to note over the years.

Maureen was one of the official witnesses at Skip and my wedding in 2014.

And this below was one of my favorite happy occasions - where Bill and Maureen had dropped in on video from NYC and were a happy part of my Dads 100th birthday in Florida, which include Youtube wishes from outside of Florida.

Nat Landau's 100th birthday was Sept 7 2020. Bill & Maureen were at Miami party by "remote" from NYC

This is wonderful, Freddie!

I certainly recognize THAT voice!

The Boatman in Sunday in the Park with George, and The Proprietor in Assassins, right?
Unforgettable.

When I lived in Phoenix, I always took visitors to a great steakhouse called Pinnacle Peak Patio.

They had a strict “no-tie” policy, and if you came in wearing one, they would cut it off and hang it on the ceiling.

DR Laura, did you ever go there?

Looks like it closed several years ago, unfortunately.

The Pinnacle Peak Patio Steakhouse & Microbrewery was a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona, the United States, known for its delicious steaks and its rigorously enforced no-necktie dress code. If anybody is found wearing a necktie, someone will sneak up on them with a pair of scissors and cut it off. The clipped necktie then joins thousands of others hanging from the ceiling like trophies reminding everyone to never, ever, walk into this place wearing a necktie. According to their website, the owners of Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse has cut over a million ties from unsuspecting customers.

Of course, I always had ties on hand that I bought from Target, and made sure the unsuspecting visitors wore them.

It was great fun!

Not Reseda, Tarzana, and I didn't recall correctly - here's what I wrote back in 2019:  I got ready and moseyed on over to a jernt called the Black Bear Diner in the heart of Tarzana, although I’m not sure Tarzana has a heart.  This was formerly a Coco’s – now it’s another chain, the Black Bear Diner, which I’ve never heard of.  The menu was promising, but sometimes reality is different.  I got the “light” version of the chicken fried steak (five ounces instead of ten, and only 600 calories).  There was something in the gravy, some spice, that just wasn’t to my liking.  Still, I ate it up along with some of the redskin mashed potatoes, and a couple of bites of salad, as I also didn’t care for their bacon ranch dressing – everyone needs to leave bacon out of ranch dressing – that’s simply not done, not in civilized society.

As much as I love bacon, I don't want it in my ranch dressing either. :P
