SIDE EFFECTS
« on: October 06, 2005, 12:13:08 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, you know all about the side effects of the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently suffering from backwards side effects - instead of saying "moo" they're saying "oom" - most disconcerting.

Documentaries:  the only one that I can think of right now (that I've seen) is "Fahrenheit 9/11."  I know I've seen more, but I have no idea which ones. :-\

Saw one yesterday - unusual to see them in the daytime near here. I was driving by the hive. There was a wallaby in our garden earlier in the year - also not usual!

Two Americans Win Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

Americans Robert H. Grubbs (search) and Richard R. Schrock (search) and Yves Chauvin of France won the 2005 Nobel Prize in chemistry Wednesday for work that reduces hazardous waste in creating new chemicals.

The trio won the award for their development of the metathesis method for creating new organic molecules. Metathesis (search) has tremendous commercial potential in the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and foodstuffs production industries. It is also used in the development of revolutionary polymers.

Watching HOME FROM THE HILL.  Eleanor Parker could really be good when she played some roles, but for some reason producers and directors liked her best when she was prissy and/or haughty.  Here she is both - an unsympathetic character, and worst of all....her son is played by George Hamilton.

So early in the day and most of mine have been mentioned, such as Broadway, The Golden Age; the Company documentary; Farenheit 9/11; March of the Penguins.

What a wonderful day twas' yesterday. And I didn't even go on the walk. I joined the walkers (amazing timing) as they were approaching Fred's. He was waiting in the lobby of Manhattan Plaza to welcome us in (and also to make the security easier). The Corgis are adorable and the apartment wonderful. What a great view of uptown! Skip and Fred are great impromptu (almost) hosts.

We then (the Men of HHW, there is a calendar in there someplace) proceeded to walk from 43rd Street and 10th Avenue to 85th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam with a stop on the 4th floor of the Time-Warner building for a gorgeous view of the newly renovated Columbus Circle.

We arrived at La Cocina (the official restaurant of the Upper West Side contingent of HHW) to find Mr. Moore and Tom and Antonia waiting for us. We had the big downstairs room almost to ourselves, although there was a group of Manhattan single women drinking margaritas and two single men sitting with them. They were photographed for reasons which will remain unspoken  ;D

We had laughs and good talk and a great time. It's amazing to think that all these people have come together linked by one site on the Internet. Thank you Mr. Bruce Kimmel for having this site and giving us the opportunity to meet and make friends with people from around the world (Australia, Japan and quite a bit of the U.S.). The TomovOz 2006 tour is highly anticipated!

And now, on that note (F# Major) I return to the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

But before I go:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JMK!

Well, I tried to post a moment ago, and I lost it because I was told the site had too many connections!

Good travel vibes to DRs Ginny and MBarnum today!

DRs Wiliam Orr, DerBrucer and SWoodyWhite, thanks for coming in yesterday.  It was so good to see you all.

And to the question of Barnum's underwear, which I thought would be my retirement fund, there was only one bidder but I won't mention DR TCB by name.  I returned them to their owner who refused to show the black briefs, size 32-34, to the diners at LaCocina.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DRJMK!!!!!!

I'm up.  I'm up.  At least I think I am.  Maybe I'm asleep dreaming that I'm up and posting.   ???

I need a shower.  I need something with caffeine in it.  I need drugs.

I had one of the most wonder days of my life yesterday.  I so enjoyed myself.

I didn't post it last night but I want to thank Jose for taking us around like he did.  I would follow you anywhere!*

I guess we are going to have a "Lady's Day Out" of sorts after all.  We're going to have a makeover today.

Be sure to stay off of the streets to avoid the truck loads of makeup they will no doubt need to use on me.  Also expect rumors of something roaming the streets.  It will be me before the make over-maybe after.

I was very glad to read that everyone made it home, safe and sound.  Good travel vibes to those who are leaving today.

I have tons of pictures but I am to tired to mess with trying to size them.  I will share them when I get home if Jose finds out about that site so I can post them there.

I was also glad that Derick was not forgotten.  What a wonderful group of people we have here at HHW--The best site on the Web!

*except  Splash/anywhere that loud & dark, certain "specialty/novelty" stores and the men's bathroom.   ;) :D
