We used to go to the RIngling Bros. Barnum-Bailey Circus every year. I was never SUPER fond of the circus, but we would dutifully go (just like we'd go to the Ice Capades every year, too).

Favorite circus movie: BILLY ROSE'S JUMBO just because I love Doris Day, Stephen Boyd, Martha Raye, and Jimmy Durante and those fabulous Rodgers and Hart songs. The circus acts in the movie I feel slow it down but I naturally understand they HAD to be there.

As for magicians, Doug Henning was always an awesome magician. Apart from THE MAGIC SHOW, he'd appear on TV variety shows and specials and was always just astonishing. And the fact that he was kind of nerdy-hippie looking (instead of the suave magicians like Copperfield), made him more appealing to me.

Like DR Michael, I never wanted to know how the tricks were done. For me, it WAS magic.

In a word, FLUFF. It's like the TV section of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY expanded into an entire magazine. Overkill thy name is TV GUIDE. And the print is so large, I didn't need reading glasses.

To be fair, it IS just the first week. Like ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, I'm sure it will adapt and adjust in the coming months, but I'd really love to see more substance (reviews, overviews, history of TV), and less pictorials and silly charts.)

And Ty Pennington on the cover. Yuck!

Ty on the cover might be the only reason I would pick it up. Is he shirtless?

I have to admit that they sent the old digest book out with some style. They have multiple covers with current TV stars recreating TV Guide covers of old. It's a pretty cute idea.

Mornin' from the Wet Apple. It's disgusting outside. My jeans are soaked through from the rain and wind - and I've been inside for almost 2 hours now! Thank goodness it didn't rain like this last week for all you travelers out there in the dark. I suspect your trips would have been a tad miserable.

Last night I went to a concert with a friend from work. He had an extra ticket due to a last-minute back-out and didn't want to go by himself, so I went. The artist was Mr. Jamie Cullum - a British jazz-rock singer. The performance venue had no seating, so we stood for nearly four hours (and that's after standing in line for an hour just to get in!), and as my friend is quite wee, we were right up front...about 10 feet from the speakers. I hate to sound like an old man, but...it was WAAAY too loud for my taste (louder than anything you've EVER heard in a Broadway theatre) and all of Mr. Cullum's songs started to sound the same after about an hour. And I was miffed once I got in, anyway. The security guy required me to check my bag, which is no big deal. As a bag/coat checker myself, I understand these things and make it a point not to make an ass of myself when required to check things, but then the coat check guy demanded I pay him $1.50. WHAT!?! You do NOT require people to check items and then CHARGE them for it! Not even the money-hungry Met Opera does that! I can understand charging if someone CHOOSES to check an item, but to be required to cough up $1.50 is ridiculous. And, sadly, I had spent my last bit of money on dinner, so I had no money with me and Russell had already gone up to save us a spot on the floor. I explained my situation to the security guard, who looked at me like I was stupid and said, "I don't understand - you don't have $1.50?" At that point I lost my temper and snapped back, "What part of that don't you understand? I don't have any cash on me - I spent my money on DINNER!" The jerk actually made me leave and walk three blocks to an ATM. I will not be returning to the Irving Plaza any time in the future.

I love circuses. But I love zoos more.

Looking back, I never really liked the circus. I went to Circus World or Circus Town up in Milwaukee when I was little. There was a mechanical gorilla in a cage. That I liked.

No, he's not shirtless (he's wearing teal). His lithe frame is swinging a sledgehammer on the cover, but his face has been airbrished to to the point of absurdity.

I liked those famous cover re-dos as well. My subscription copy cover had Reba doing Lucy's grape stomping scene.

The listings are now national listings, not regional ones, and you're instructed to visit the on-line listings to get specific schedules for your local stations.

Yes those television specials really were more special than we thought they were. I have The Edsel Show with Crosby, Sinatra, and Clooney and it's a treat to see....along with the full line of 1958 Edsels!

Good Afternoon!

Just coming up for some air... I mean, I knew I had a back log of mail to go through, but I just had no idea how much of a backlog it was/is?!?!?! WOW!?!?!? I've only had one "surprise" in the pile so far, and after checking some other things, I think that should be the only surprise. -Thankfully, that surprise was taken care of immediately and rather painlessly with a phone call - and a very friendly and helpful customer service rep - see, they do exist!

...Sadly, I'm guessing it will take me a good part of the afternoon to get the rest of the pile sorted, organized and/or purged. But once it's done, it will be done. So...

...And the drip, drip, drip did indeed start again. However, the landlord and her main repair guy came over too this morning. And, like I thought, it's not a leaking pipe, it's just water coming in from/around/via the exhaust/ventilation pipe for the bathroom on the roof. -Not that the bathroom is on the roof, just the pipe/exhaust. So, for now, the bucket stays on the floor, and once we get some dryer weather this weekend, they'll send someone up to the roof to check things out. -It really is just a "drip, drip, drip," - maybe just a half an inch of water in the bucket over the past three hours. Not bad at all.
