BK mentioned the soundtrack to LILI.

Now why hasn't that marvelous classic come out on DVD yet? We have THE DAMNED DON'T CRY, but we don't have LILI?

Something's wrong here.

DR MBarnum - I hope your insurance company is fast... And that it doesn't rain today either.  ;)

I had my car broken into once too.   I was rehearsing a recital when it happened.  They took some of my keyboard pedals, a score or two, and my tux(!!).  -I still remember having a minor breakdown in the parking lot once it all sank in.

Glad to know that YOU are all right.

When I had a Mustang, I lost two sets of wire wheel hubcaps, and I finally had regular hubcaps put on so they wouldn't be so tempted to be stolen.

That happened when I lived in an apartment and had to park my car out in the open. Haven't had any trouble with theft since I got a house with garage though there is a window in the garage that could easily be broken and the garage entered. I still lock my car inside the garage.

One thing I noticed about films made in Technicolor around 1952-53 like LOVELY TO LOOK AT, THE BAND WAGON, TORCH SONG, and LILI. Before they were remastered or restored, every one of them had blue light shimmers that were present during the movie. Didn't happen constantly, but it did happen in all of them. Is that some print damage or Technicolor registration problem or age damage of some kind, or has it always been there even when the films were new?

On the BAND WAGON laserdisc, it's there, but on the restored BAND WAGON DVD, it's not there any more.

DR MBarnum, sorry about your car.  But I'm glad you scared them off.

It's a good thing you added that someone actually broke into the car.  Because I also thought your alarm simply went off.  That happens so often.

But do thieves really still break the glass?  I guess they weren't planning on taking your car. Unless they wanted to drive around with broken glass?

 ;D

Was it "Carousel" and Jones you were referencing earlier or was it "Guys and Dolls" and Jean Simmons?

And which two lines of "If I Loved You"...and why?

And could you point me toward a reference?  I've been all over Google and cannot find a single connection between Nixon and "Carousel" or Nixon and Jones.

I agree with Mike Barnum's sentiments regarding burglars.

When I lived in Naples, Italy, I was burgled not once, not twice, but THREE times over the course of 5 years.

The first time was the worst.  The neighbor behind my villa invited me over to unwind a few days later.  We had a few glasses of wine, and the talk turned to what I/we would do if I/we ever actually caught someone in the act.

The neighbor had a large basement, and our minds spun for a while, concocting various tortures we could apply therein.

The idea still appeals to me.

I prefer the biblical solution -- off with his hands!

DR Jennifer, ya, I don't think they wanted to steal the car, just steal whatever was inside the car.

Thankfully I park my car right next to my bedroom window so I was able to react right away. Normally I take my car stereo (it has the removeable face) out of the car at night, but I have been getting lazy of late and left it in. I would have been very unhappy if the stereo had been stolen as thieves usually just rip out the whole dashboard...and that would have been quite unseemly.

Well off to call the insurance company and find a windshield replacement store.

More often than not, thieves do break glass.   Even when the cars are unlocked.

As Mike said, they were probably after anything inside the car, rather than wanting the car itself.

There are the occasional morning drives in to work* when I see a pattern of crime along a street, with shattered glass either along curbs or in driveways.  Busy night for some lowlife scumbags.

(*I am fortunate enough to be able to route my daily work commutes through neighborhoods rather than a freeway or busy thoroughfare).

I just saw this story

Quote
TOKYO - Struggling to lure customers back amid increased competition, McDonald's is adding a new item to its menu in Japan: the shrimp burger.

The 270 yen ($2.40), burger, shown to reporters Friday and set to go on sale this month, is the latest effort by the Japan unit of the U.S. fast-food chain to win over Japanese palates --  and spark sales.

Dear vixmom:  Please calm yourself about the Alka Seltzer.

I have taken it in the past.  It does nothing for my allergies, which are the main problem I have.

Thanks for the concern.
