After talking to DR JMK about his new TV set in e-mail, I decided I might do well to tweek the settings on my set just a bit. I've been feeling lately that the color had not quite been up to snuff on some DVDs (like the 1945 STATE FAIR), and after I did some calibrating, the DVD did looks much better, more lifelike and the color did have more punch than I had originally thought. (HDTV pictures have always looked deeply saturated and pristine.)

I put in the James Bond DVD GOLDENEYE and watched some of it too to watch something a bit more modern and look at how I liked the color in it. Just fine.

Then, the acid test: THE INCREDIBLES which features really intense and deeply saturated color. Astounding looking, so now I am very well pleased.

ALIAS, well, what can I say? I found it not very exciting, all with a "seen it before and already done it" feel about it. Sad.

CSI had a very involving conclusion to the two part case begun last week. Very touching ending, and the investigation gave almost everyone a moment or two in the spotlight. I'm loving George Eads' new mustache.

WITHOUT A TRACE veered away from its usual procedural tact and presented a case from the parents of a victim's point of view. It was gripping from beginning to end, by far the best episode of this series thus far this season.

Laurie Metcalf and Matt Craven played the parents of the missing fifteen year old and both did acting worthy of guest actor Emmy nominations. They did exceptional jobs, and given that the focus was on them and not on the FBI agents this week, their guest appearances were a lot longer than the average guest star on a series. This should give them something of an advantage when Emmy time rolls around next season.

Then, I watched WILL & GRACE recorded tonight on the DVR. The first part of the episode had some good laughs as Will and Jack took an interest in some gay penguins at the zoo while Karen and Grace attended the life celebration of the late wife of the always funny Beverley Leslie (Leslie Jordan). Of course, Bevereley's social consultant Benjie was on hand to help his employer through his "grief."

Sad to say, the second half of the episode was not funny and once again suggested that there may be more than friendship in the cards for Will and Jack as the series winds down.

I still have a DVR full of "stuff" to watch over the weekend which is going to be made tougher because I'm going to a play tomorrow night. More about that tomorrow.

I did not watch Alias yet. But did watch Survivor and The Apprentice.

Minor vague spoilers.

The preview for next week's Survivor looks interesting.  Can't believe they left one person out of the loop!

And on Apprentice I was so happy to see that person go!

Back from another jam-packed day.  Rehearsal was really fun - more about that later.  I must now go sit on my couch like so much fish.

I take no credit for The Last Starfighter, other than having the good taste to know it was really a good show - all credit goes to the authors, FJL and his ever-lovin' Skip.

I wasn't tempted to have ice cream today. Friday is my ice cream day, and that's tomorrow!

I did sneak a few potato chips during ALIAS tonight. If the show had been more gripping, I wouldn't have gotten up from the chair to fetch a snack.

The HOA meeting was a tad on the pissy side thanks to two homeowners.

They presented problems, the board agreed to look into them, and the homeowners DEMANDED IMMEDIATE ACTION.

A lesson in diplomacy and what it means to be a "volunteer" board member ensued.

Much crow was swallowed.

SPOILER

Re:  "Survivor: Guatemala"

I was happy with tonight's eviction.  I'm glad Gary was spared again, and as much "potential" as I feel Jamie has, he was clearly psychotic in his approach to the game.

Good riddance.  And it's his own fault.
