Tomorrow, however, will be linner/dunch ;) at my sister's house.  Except that I don't like turkey. :P So I don't like Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving needn't be all about turkey.

I'm doing a pork loin, sweet potato souffle and a cranberry-pear relish.

That's all for me, too...JUST ME!

Lucky you!  But in my family, it's all about "the turkey."

It doesn't seem a year since I mentioned a Thanksgiving day song!  Written by Brits.  The song from "The Good Old Bad Old Days".

Evening all!  I wanted wish everyone safe travels who are on the road to their loved ones.

I've been so tired this week.  It's taken everything I have just to make it though the work day.

I have lots to do tomorrow and I sure am looking forward to that stuffing!   ;D

All of my family in South Carolina is having its first gathering at the home of my cousin Rick and his wife, Susan.  I really, really, really, really wish I could be there, but I'll be flying home in a couple of weeks for the Christmas hollies....

Tonight's supper will be leftover pot roast...served up as a sandwich on white bread with mustard.

I might treat myself to a little cabbage on the side.

My pork loin has been out of the freezer (but in the refrigerator) since yesterday afternoon, and it's still solid.

Sigh.

AN ODE TO THE THANKSGIVING TURKEY

The turkey shot out of the oven,
And rocketed into the air.
It knocked every plate off the table,
And partly demolished a chair.

It ricocheted into a corner,
And burst with a deafening boom.
Then splattered all over the kitchen,
Completely obscuring the room.

It stuck to the walls and the windows.
It totally coated the floor.
There was turkey attached to the ceiling,
Where there'd never been turkey before.

It blanketed every appliance.
It smeared every saucer and bowl.
There wasn't a way I could stop it.
That turkey was out of control!

I scraped and I scrubbed with displeasure,
And thought with chagrin as I mopped,
That I'd never again stuff a turkey
With popcorn that hadn't been popped.

I am very much looking forward to ignoring tonight's ABC special with Kenny Chesney...(I say there's been WAY TOO MUCH KENNY "spin" since Renee filed for annulment)

At least we get "Lost" and "Invasion" tonight.

Yay!

Thanksgiving Eve greetings!  It's been a busy day here - we have 2 tables in our dining room now - one set for 6 and one for 8.  I keep thinking I'm forgetting to cook something, but really all we have to do is get the stuffed turkey in the oven about 8:15 tomorrow morning and enjoy the Broadway show excerpts before the Macy's parade.  We've already made the pumpkin and pecan pies and bought 2 kinds of cranberry sauce; I'll make the gravy right before we eat.  The side dishes are arriving with our guests:

My mother - Green beans, apple pie
Richard's mother - Candied sweet potatoes, cranberry jello salad
Richard's older brother - Rolls, relishes
Richard's younger brother - Corn souffle
My aunt - White wine, pink wine

Whew!  I'm ready for Friday.

Better go. Paul finished the mural and will soon be waiting for me at Buffalo Alice. He's exhausted. I figure one drink and I'll be back home to finish packing. I got all the laundry done and have almost finished reinstalling windows xp with all the updates in the laptop.  It's days are numbered, but if I can at least get it to just be ok for email and internet it would be a great road computer.

It occurred to me that tomorrow DH Richard and I will have both our mothers and all our siblings (his 2 brothers, my 1 sister) here - something to be thankful for.  Sounds like a photo-op.

Gee, Ginny, your aunt sounds like my type of girl!

Yeah, she's a real trip.  She just moved here after more than 20 years in Phoenix.  She's freaked out by the wintery weather we're having - she didn't even know how to turn the heat on in her car!

Ginny thanks for the sympathy.
JRand the vibes must have worked.  Today the dishwasher was installed and the rest of the cabinet knobs and pulls arrived, including the handles for the refrigerator.  The ones for the refrigerator (different from the others) are gorgeous.  Now all we need is the cabinet front so they can be installed and we can use the new frig.

Ben, thanks for the turkey.

I didn’t even make it to page two tonight.  Maybe I will catch up tomorrow, if not,’’

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

'night.

Tonight's LOST was a good one.

And I cried at the end!

Oh and i can't believe Ana Lucia's backstory. I think it has to be one of the more surprising ones.  But I liked it.  And the twists we saw at the end (the shooting, the pregnancy) were all good ones.  Hmmm i wonder if it will be her and jack, or kate and jack.

I took the kids to see Chicken Little today.  The boys loved it; I found it ho-hum from a story perspective, but quite fetching from a visual/design one.  One truly LOL moment (for me, anyway--the rest of the audience didn't get the reference) dealing with a Streisand record collection, but it just struck me that most of the time they were trying way too hard to be hip/self-referential in that Pixar sort of way, with none of the nuance that Pixar seems to come by naturally.
