I think that the transit workers union has gone too far, and even though I seriously question the MTA's business practices, it's hard for me to support the workers.  I think they are being very unrealistic with their demands.  As you guys know, I'm training to become a social worker, and when I graduate in May with my masters degree, I will make nowhere near what the transit workers make.  And I will have to pay for a portion of my health coverage, and I will have no hope of retiring at age 55 without a winning lottery ticket.  And that's okay because it's what I chose.

........    Each day that passes where I cannot get to work, I will have less sympathy for the workers.  I'm all for the process of negotiations and striking, but not when the demands have gotten out of control.  I don't want to diminish the job that they do and everyone deserves a fair shake, but these are not 12 year old children losing limbs in a meat factory.

Well said!! I agree with you on every point.

Quote
The offer called for a 9 percent wage increase, phased in over three years. The union wants 8 percent raises each year of the contract. Currently, train operators, station agents and cleaners earn an annual base salary of between $47,000 and $55,000.

Santa Claus in wearing a gown?  Who knew?

DRJOSE - usually the A side of a 45 rpm record has a lower number on it.  Both sides will have a number that is the same (usually) and a smaller number below it.  I don't know what they mean, but the A side is usually the smaller number.  And of course for a LOT of records, the B side is composed by or at least carries the name of one of the artists who really had nothing to do with the HIT side, but allows him to collect the same royalty on the HIT record.  Bobby Vinton wrote ALL of his B sides during his Epic years - or at least was credited with them.

I love The Sylvers HIGH SCHOOL DANCE.  We had a great dance routine to the song....it's got some great rhythms.

I could always tell when my cousin and her husband had been smoking the MaryJane.  When I got to their house, they would be making a lot of popcorn.  Lita was holding the pan, and Brad was shaking the stove.  :)

Good morning!

It's partly cloudy here but is supposed to be in the upper 40s-low 50s, so a pleasant winter day.

I am very sorry about the strike for your stranded NYCers. I read the demands and found them very high. I know living in NYC is very expensive, but their salaries seemed to me already reasonable for the work done. But what do I know? After many, many years of going to NYC for vacations, I have used mass transit only sporadically.

A busy day of gift wrapping here, and I will be listening to Christmas music as I do this.

First up will be Doris Day's Christmas Album which I have had out but have not put on, but I will today. It is perhaps the mellowest of all Christmas albums that I possess.

To show what a sheltered life I lead: last year when Clay Aiken's Christmas CD came out, I was hearing the song "Mary, Did You Know" for the first time. I honestly thought it was a piece of special material written for him for his CD! A day or two after I listened to the CD, I was in a friend's car and his radio was tuned to a station playing Christmas music all day, and some other artist was singing "Mary, Did You Know," and I was flaberghasted. Had never heard the song before, and within two days had heard two different interpretations.

WHITE CHRISTMAS
SCROOGE, the Musical
IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
A CHRISTMAS STORY

And A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS if a thirty minute program counts as a movie.

With TV in (mostly) reruns tonight, I'll put on a movie, and I suspect it's going to have to be WHITE NOISE since I'm going to a Christmas dinner tomorrow night at the home of the fella who loaned it to me, and I need to return it.

I don't think the movie is holiday-themed, but I'll give a full report on it tonight after I see it.

Have no clue, but isn't it funny? THose two (Darlene and Lonnie) were among my favorite Mouseketeers. I thought Darlene grew up in the series to be rather attractive after looking like a freckle-faced tomboy in the early years. In that last season, she was pretty.

Yup - Darlene was a terrific "chirp" as she was dubbed in Variety - and she was heavily favored to be the breakout star - until the MMC started and the FANS made a star of Joe and Virginia's little girl.

I still get a bit misty-eyed when I watch my video of Darlene singing and dancing to "When I Grow Up Someday" - especially since she's still got several years in the pen to go.

Mary, Merry, Marry....all the fun has now gone for me.  Here in South Carolina, "Mary" is being pronounced  "MAY-Ree".

I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow
And mistletoe
And presents 'neath the tree

Christmas eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

Always loved Pat's voice and RAN to see his movies:

Journey to the Center of the Earth
Bernadine - great songs!
Mardi Gras - Pat with his shirt off!
State Fair - more Pat with his shirt off and a great version of "That's For Me!"  ;D

This stereo album is lovely....Pat re-released it himself in 1979 with a weird puppet cover.  :P

The DOT stereo engineers were GREAT!!

I'm wondering about DR Pogue's startling relocation news.

Will he and La Jolie Femee REALLY take to Kentucky's winter weather?  Only time will tell.

But the blood thins -- oh, yes! It thins -- in California.

And, of course, the years make a difference, too.  As much as I love coming to South Carolina in December, I've found my ability to tolerate the cold has its limits.

It will be interesting to read Pogue's comments in the coming months!!!
