For some reason, I first thought you meant Shirley MacLaine.

My bad.   ::)

I'm not good with gifs, so I'll let everyone imagine the Shirleys tapping away for our page two dance.

Tonight's festivities will be across the street at my aunt's house -- all the relatives who have been unable to get here before today will be in attendance tonight.  The menu will be chicken & dumplings, soup and/or hash (takes yer choice).

Tomorrow evening, "we" will do the honors here at my mom's house.  She will fry up bunches of chicken and I'm guessing we'll have corn/tomato casserole or potato salad or both.

It's hard to believe I've been here 10 days.  I fly back Thursday morning.  Sigh.

I've seen a really nice old house a few blocks north of town that I'd love to buy/fix up.  It has a wrap around (deep) porch and a second story, too.  It's only $179,000!  If I were living/working here I'd buy it in a heartbeat.  Not so easy living/working in Oakland and buying here, too.

Maybe in another lifetime.

Time for a dose of somethin'!

And a new Shirley Temple movie is airing...missed the credits, so I don't know the title.  Shirley sings "You've Got to Eat Your Spinach, Baby" in it.

The Atomic Clock for RLP and the wireless keyboard and mouse for DR MATTH sound like to coolest things so far!

I took Carroll the PT Cruiser out to look for a Sunday Paper - and Casey's General Store was open.  I let the clerk know that Super Unleaded on Pump No. 7 was pumping at the Regular Unleaded Price which is 10 cents lower and she said:  "Merry Christmas!!"  LOL

It is raining steadily here, but as it gets colder we may get a flurry or two.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a Happy Hanukkah!   ??? ;D

My boys gave me very sweet modelling clay beasts last night.  We won't get into our "real" gift-giving until today, though I did give the kids the new season 7 Simpsons DVDs and Betsy the newest DVD release of Sound of Mucous Music so that they could watch stuff whilst I was playing various and sundried Christmas Eve services.

Speaking of which, I must high myself off to play various and sundried Christmas Day services.

Ooh, and JR:  didn't attach credits as I wasn't sure how the lyricist wanted to be credited--as Mr. Earles or Mr.? Dickenson.   ;D

Quote
Today’s topic of discussion: An easy one – what did you get for Christmas?

Most of all, most importantly:  I GOT MY JOB as an overnight cashier, working Mondays thru Fridays, 10pm to 7am! Gainful employment begins tomorrow, though there is a paycheck waiting for me from my orientation. . .

From family and friends:
MADAGASCAR dvd.
Two lovely Sabuda books, one which features a bittersweet dedication to Nancy LaMott.
the Sondheim Sings cds.
A lovely cd of seasonal music PLUS Jacques Brel performing the songs from JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL. . .(from the brilliant, thoughtful elmore, of course).
A Nancy Dettinger mystery novel.
A White Star Line creamer.
A White Star Line keychain.
A Woman in White wall calender.
The German recording of Hunchback (DER GLOCKNER VON NOTRE DAME), BILLY ELLIOT (OLC) and A SLICE OF SATURDAY NIGHT cds.

For the family:
A Sony shelf-mounted Radio plus Cd Player.

What I gave:
COOKIES!  loads and loads, dozens of dozens of 'em!  Finished baking last night with twelve dozen orange cookies.
Ceramic wreaths from The Hamilton Collection.
Two OTHER Sabuda books.
Michael Ball Christmas cds.
Broadway and Hollywood Christmas cds. (Gee, wonder who produced and arranged these).
Jane Monheit Christmas cds.

What's in the cd player?
Lots of Christmas music: Country, Celtic, Standards, Jazz and of course, NANCY LAMOTT.

Hmmm....what did I get for Christmas! A few DVDs, a couple of calendars, including the family calander that my mom makes each year, a small bottle of whiskey, some chocolates (evidently my sister thinks she is in my will), and lots of hugs from my grand neice Taylor!

Well, I've now spoken to my Father, two brothers and two sisters-in-law, all of whom are well and happy today.  After that, I opened all my Christmas cards and packages:
two beautiful shirts
several checks
The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization sent me the new DVD release of THE SOUND OF MUSIC
A fantastic phone call from DRMichael Barnum was the frosting on the cake!

My JVC CD players is acting up this morning, and I may need to buy a new one this week.  Damn!

As for the Topic of the Day...

So far...

Chocolate and Ca$h.

Surprisingly, I didn't spot the usual haphazardly wrapped presents from my Mom for me and brothers under the tree last night, nor this morning.  Which is OK.  Truly it is.

However, the grandkids/nieces/nephews did pretty well last night.  :)

I skinned and de-fatted the country ham, and der Brucer has thinly sliced his daughter's portion.  If she really wants more, we can bring more.

It turned out really good this time.  Last year's ham ended up over-cooked, this one is tender and moist.  Cooking it in simmering water helped leach out more of the salt, too, giving it a better flavor.

We'll be off to celebrate with the grandlads and company soon.  Hope there isn't too much screaming.

The man or the car? (or the comb?)

Or the jeans?

Or maybe it's one of those ads for a cologne?  *I "love" how some of the fashion spreads in some magazines actually do list the fragrance the model is (supposedly) wearing.

Watching some ice skating.

Nothing but Jesus movies on TCM today, may switch over to James Bond, but I never did watch White Christmas yet, so I think I'll start that up in a bit.

Well, I'm off to the home of DR FJL and his Skip for a lovely and sparkling dinner with several friends.  Ms D0-re-milla will be there; she is a sparkling party all by her lonesome, so I think this will be quite a festive day!
