I'm trying to think if I even saw ten films this year...

Good Night & Good Luck, I liked a lot...I can't think of any more right off the top of my head.  Uusually about this time, The Lovely Wife and I see all the films we missed during the year when I can get into them free with my WGA card because they are touting them for awards.  Alas, this year we were a bit pre-occupied with other matters.  We've a lot of catching up to do.

We just don't go to movies much, sadly.  Though we're probably going to take the kids to Narnia today.

It's raining here.

I do hope others like The Producers more than I.  Nick's twelve-year-old daughter really enjoyed Narnia - she left the room during The Producers.

Now, are like half of our regular denizens MIA (missing in action in Internet lingo, or MIA Farrow)?

Interesting word, "farrow."  I just looked it up.

As a noun, it means "a litter of pigs."   As an adjective, it means "not pregnant", and is used to discribe a cow.

Poor Mia!

Heading to my brothers' place later for an impromptu Hannukah celebration.  One nice thing about Hannukah being eight days during the school vacation week is that we can just celebrate it any night.  Very convenient.

Problem is I wasn't expecting to see my brother, sister-in-law and nephew for Hannukah until Friday night, so i don't have their present in hand yet.  I may have to bring something and promise them more to come on Friday.

THE PRODUCERS seems to be dividing people in terms of reaction the way ONCE UPON A MATTRESS did.  Among our acquaintances, both have been running pretty close to 50/50 in terms of thumbs up or down.  No trend noticed in terms of the same people liking or disliking both, though.

Good Afternoon!

I think I'm going to pass on the sales today.  However, I may head to Trader Joe's and/or Target to pick up some supplies - just not sale items.  -And I do have that Border's coupon, so... We shall see.  Otherwise, I'll probably venture out with my friend, Andy, to see "The Producers", and maybe grab dinner someplace if we can find someplace that isn't mobbed.

And as for the "The Producers"...

Even though I haven't seen it yet, I loved how the reviewer for The Washington Post put it...  Something along the lines of... "In a perfect world, the film would have starred Nathan Lane and Gene Wilder."  -But since that's not meant to be we get the "charisma-challenged" (I loved that adjective) Matthew Broderick.

;)

-And, yes, I still want to see it.  Just lots of friends in the foreground and background.

And as for the Topic of the Day...

I think I may have actually seen 10 films this year, but I don't think I have a Top Ten... Or maybe I do... Let's see...

"Millions"
"The Prize-Winner of Defiance, Ohio"
"Brokeback Mountain"
"Madagascar"
"The Constant Gardener"

Alas, I wish I could have included "Rent" and "Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride", but that is not to be.  I did like "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", but I'm not sure I would put that on a Top Ten.

And I know I'm leaving off one or two... Just can't think right now... I think I need to get my workout in... ;)

OH!

And as for "Junebug"... The Washington Post did a nice rundown of the Best Films of the Year that we all should have seen, and "June Bug" was on the top of that list.  And I didn't realize that it's star, Amy Adams, is the same Amy Adams who did the costumes for "What If?".

I like DRMATTH's use of the word "flat" for the TV promo for THE PRODUCERS.  That is the word I was looking for.

I may see it.

I only saw ONE movie at the theatre this year, so far, KING KONG, and except for some of the unnecessary changes and the awful music - I liked it.   No need to see it again because of its length, but once was okay.

Only saw two movies at the cinema this year - "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" and "War Of The Wolrds".. Neither would have been a top ten film if I'd seen a dozen more.  Effects and no heart.

Thanks, DR Kerry!

Today is also the day of St. Stephen the Martyr, patron saint of horses.

(Maybe he was a martyr because of the saddle sores.)

And, as long as we're into the day's trivia:

ON THIS DAY, in 1620, the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock on the 'Mayflower.'

(No word on what their Christmas feasting was like the day before.)

Good Afternoon!

Whew!  That was a good workout!  Whew!

And I think I'm gonna forego getting on the scale today.  I think I shall surprise myself - hopefully - when 2006 arrives in a few days.

And the sun has come out!

And I'm a bit hungry right now... So...

If they opened a kosher Taco Bell, would they serve a bean burrito on rye?

Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening (pick one)!  Merry Christmas, Happy Boxing Day, Happy Hannukah (or Chanukah), Bright Kwanzaa, and Peaceful Ramadan.

I managed to catch a couple hours of Christmas Eve, but basically missed all of Christmas Day.  That nasty cold that everyone here (and at my job) seems to have had, and that I have been fighting; finally caught up with me on Saturday.  I don't remember the last time I felt this sick (physically, not just mentally[/i]).  Sorry I missed all the fun.

Yes, Amy Adams is the sister of Eddie Adams who is the boyfriend of Miss Tammy Minoff, and she did indeed do the What If costumes (and very well, I may add).

Gray out, but rain has stopped.

Maybe it's heading our way. It would be welcome. This is supposed to be our rainy time, but it hasn't rained here since mid-October.

Is Brad Oscar in the film version of The Producers, or did Nathan Lane not want the competition?

FJL: I don't remember where I found it. Somewhere floating around on the internet. It seemed to fit me.

A google search showed a shorter version attributed to Hunter S. Thompson
