Aw, DR Vixmom, you don't wanna hear Patrick Stewart intoning as Papa Deer-est?

A question for our esteemed BK: How bad is the smoke in your area?  The news channels are reporting about the LA brushfires, and I'm wondering how they're affecting you.

And, while we're at it, what are your strongest brushfire memories?

I've been wondering about this whole "Bambi II" thing too.  I'm on a few of Disney's e-mail lists/subscriptions, and they really are giving this one quite the PR push.  It's just interesting that their target audience for "Bambi II" was not even alive when "Bambi (I)" originally came out.  Some not even when "Bambi" first came out on VHS.  -Remember VHS?

;)

Who among us was alive when the original "Bambi" came out?

I know I wasn't!  :D

"Bambi II" supposedly falls somewhere in the middle of the original film story...it takes place shortly after his mother's death, and he doesn't become an adult in this non-theatrical (i.e. video) sequel.

The score is by a terrific composer named Bruce Broughton!

I was in San Diego when the Malibu fires raged out of control in 1993...my car, parked on the pier, had a fine sprinkling of ash on it for several days.

I do like Patrick Stewart.    The roles I liked him best in was as Sejanus in I, Claudius and I have a sound recording of his one man show of A Chrsitmas Carol that is really wonderful.

He is a terrific Professor X in the X-Men movies.

Looking forward to seeing new episodes of LOST, INVASION, VERONICA MARS, BONES, and LAW & ORDER tonight.

I only watch "Lost" and "Invasion," but have to tape them.  Tonight, I'm going to see a local production of The Last Five Years.  It should be very good.

Can't smell any smoke - the fires are in Anaheim, which is forty-five minutes from here by car.

I would think it would be more fun to go if you haven't been nominated because you don't have all the stress of wondering whether or not you'll win, just go and enjoy people watching

Today is also National Molasses Bar Day.

Funny, I've heard of coffee bars, wine bars, beer bars...but wouldn't a molasses bar be, well, tacky?

From http://www.web-holidays.com/calendar/february/0208.htm

Quote

National Molasses Bar Day
February 8

Molasses Bars Recipes
makes about 30

1-1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup molasses
1/3 cup water

frosting
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 tablespoon molasses
2 to 3 teaspoons water

Grease and flour a 13x2 inch baking pan.
Heat oven to 350°F.
Sift flour with baking powder, salt, soda, and spices, set aside.
Cream shortening with sugar until light; beat in egg, 1/2 cup of the molasses and 1/3 cup water.
With mixer on low speed, beat in the sifted flour mixture just until combined.
Spread in prepared pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a wooden pick or cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.
Place pan on wire rack to cool.
Frost while still warm.

To make frosting, combine butter, powdered sugar, and 1 tablespoon molasses. Beat in 2 to 3 tablespoons water. Spread over warm bars. Cut into squares.

Kind of like a gingerbread/blondie/bar-cookie thingy.  ;)

The two promo spots have been uploaded to the Disney server, and the updated scripts and the links have been sent to all the parties who needed to get it.  I'll be leaving here in a half-hour or so, doing some errands and then coming home.  I packaged up all the packages and will ship them early this afternoon.

BK question: Have you ever been to Clifton's Cafeteria in LA? I don't remember you mentioning it in the Kritzer books or on this site, but it sounds like a neat restaurant, with a forest inside, a grotto and whatnot. If you have been, is it a fun atmosphere?
