Good afternoon!

It's starting to cloud up here, a sure sign of some winter precipitation on the way. We may have that infamous "wintry mix" tonight and tomorrow. We'll see.

The printer was beeping at me and I don't know why.

You need someone like Sonya Fitzpartick except they would "read" printers.

I really like LOVELY TO LOOK AT. All I've got is the VHS copy, though the box says it's a restored Technicolor version. It does look very rich for videotape, but the sound is problematic on this tape.

I keep waiting for TCM to show it again so I can make a DVD of it, but it hasn't been shown in many months.

I started my afternoon with a CSI episode from the DVD set. I had no memory of this episode from last season. I'm wondering if I missed it during my rehearsals for NUNCRACKERS and just never saw a rerun either. That's about the time when that episode would have originally aired.

Next came last night's SMALLVILLE, an episode that would have made a better fit with another WB show SUPERNATURAL.

This was not one of my favorite SMALLVILLE episodes.

Those costumes in the finale to LOVELY TO LOOK AT were reportedly designed by Adrian doing his first MGM work since he retired from film costume designing in the early 1940s.

Kathryn Grayson despised the dress he designed for her in the finale.

Elderly, but not stupid......

An older, white haired man walked into a jewelry store one Friday eve with a beautiful young gal at his side.  He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend.

The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a $5,000 ring.  The old man said, "I don't think you understand, I want something VERY special."

With that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought another ring out.  "Here's a stunning ring at only $40,000", the jeweler said.  The young lady's eyes sparkled and her whole body trembled with excitement.  The old man seeing this said, "We'll take it."

The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the old man stated "By check. I know you need to make sure my check is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to verify the funds and I'll pick the ring up Monday afternoon",  he said.

Monday morning, a very teed-off jeweler phoned the old man.  "There's no money in that account!"

"I know", said the old man, "but can you imagine the weekend I had?"

I am helping Adair (of the Bacharach revue) put a new cabaret together.  Now she is using a young (and cheap, as in free) pianist for this event, who it turns out cannot deal with key changes and/or learning/notating charts from CDs.  So, Adair came over with a stack of stuff today for her cabaret, which is jokingly entitled "It's All About Me."  After listening to some of the tunes she needs help with, I jokingly suggested she change the name of the cabaret to "It's All About Liz Callaway."  :)  (Of course those of you who have heard Adair will know that she and Liz could be sisters, vocal-quality wise).  So, anyway, BK, I am ensconced in various of your Liz CDs.  Larry, did you orchestrate any of them?

Let's hope it doesn't hit back.  :)

I was driving with my Uncle one day on the approach to the Tunnel, and some guy cut him off and Charlie stopped the car, got out, and started screaming at the poor guy right there on the highway.  This was, of course, before people carried guns in cars.  ;)

Yes, and when singers ask me for my charts for Liz, I tell them they were arranged for her.  I hope Adair has enough brains and taste not to be ripping off Liz.

No, she is using Liz's keys (as I think I stated) for various songs she's doing.

That was rather a harsh comment from me, DR JMK, but it's theft.  Alex and Liz worked very hard on her arrangements, and Bruce as producer had his input on them as well.  I'm flattered that she likes their work, I'm proud of my involvement with them, but it's still theft.  She should hire you, or another arranger, to arrange some songs she'd like to sing for her, but transcribing Liz's charts, or another singers', is something I don't approve of, even though I have been equally guilty of the same crime in my work for various projects.
