Moving On...

Actually, I am sort of having second thoughts about the prospect of getting snowed-in in NYC this weekend, but that's subject to change over the next hour or so as I continue to wake up and get things packed up...  We shall see...

It has been on my media check for the last two or three weeks. I just never seem to be able to get to it. With much of my evening TV being cut due to Olympics coverage, I should have much more time for DVD movies over the next two weeks.

Two hillbillies Ed and Red walk into a bar.  While having a shot of whiskey, they talk about their moonshine operation. Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough.  After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress.

One of the hillbillies looks at her and says,   "Kin ya swallar?"

The woman shakes her head no.

"Kin ya breathe?"

The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her head no.

The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up the back of her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue.

The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth. As she begins to breathe again, the hillbilly walks slowly back to the bar.

His partner says,   "Ya know, I'd heerd of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver', but I ain't never seed nobody do it!"

As if we needed any more proof that comedy is such an individual thing:

My local film critic in today's paper gave the new Steve Martin/PINK PANTHER film 1 1/2 stars out of 4 finding almost nothing about it funny (did like Kevin Kline in the part Herbert Lom made so memorable).

Mike Clark, the USA TODAY film critic, gave the film 3 stars out of 4 finding much of it reliably amusing.

Nothing....NOTHING in the world could compel me to watch a movie called THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS....

It was bad enough that I once had to sit through THE SECRETS OF THE YAYA SISTERHOOD....

I've been called in to work later today, due to snow predictions.  It won't matter if we get snow or not - the prediction is enough to send people into the stores in a panic.

I think I've enough time to start making onion soup from scratch.  I've never tried it before, but der B had some at a restaurant recently that he found totally unsatisfying, and I need to rectify that.

Heading down now to get a shower and get ready for the rest of the day. Have some errands to run, too.

TOTD:
Vinyl: Carl Anderson & Gloria Loring  "Friends And Lovers"
CD: Best of Homer & Jethro.
DVD: Edward VII

I have the score for Freinds and Lovers.... It was used as a song for one of DOOL's supercouples back in the 1980s - when the show was good.

Interesting Op-Ed piece in today's New York Times called "Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Ex-Gay Cowboys:"

Forgot Baker Street was out.  Of course, just two months ago I would have hopped over to Aron's to pick it up.  Now, there are no stores in LA where you'd be able to get it for anything other than list price.

One of the anomalies of life, I've found, is that some people are more easily amused than others.

Another thing I've found is that it pays to be wary of them.

Snow is nice in small amounts until it is going sideways... Very windy here today and the snow is in the air...

Nothing....NOTHING in the world could compel me to watch a movie called THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS....

It was bad enough that I once had to sit through THE SECRETS OF THE YAYA SISTERHOOD....

Well it is definitely a chick flick and I mean young chicks... the 12 -16 crowd.  The Vixter read this book as part of a reading group at our public library last year. Since I read most of her books along with her or before her so we can discuss them, I read it as well.

It was a pretty good story for the target audience.  The movie was also good , for the target audience, you'd probably hate it!

I never saw the Ya Ya Sisterhood... the name turned me off. isn't that a terrible reason not to watch a movie?!

"Ya Ya " just made me think "dimwitted"

also it seemed to be one of those films full of angst and  self exploration and confrontation of past wrongs.... and those kind of movies  just annoy me.  I think most people just try and do the best they can and instead of throwing blame at each other people should just cut each other a litle slack and get over themselves already... but I guess that wouldn't make for as interesting movies.....

DR RLP, thankyou for the Times link... a well written  op-ed piece indeed, unfortunately it probably won't be read and appreciated by the people who so desperately need to get the message!
