Yo.

Yesterday I was feeling more like a human being, so I trundled me off to the City of Studio to visit our BK, who kindly burned a CD of NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY for me. Just by-the-way - if any of y'all would happen to listen to said CD, hang on for about 3 minutes after the music stops, for the most hilarious "after-burn" you'd ever find! Ah, the joys of producing a cast album...

Before i left his house, my old friend gave me a wondrous treasure: a mint condition glass ashtray from the Kiru - an old LA steakhouse that was owned by Bruce's dad and my dad's brother Morey way back in the day. When my sister Rikki got home from her day, I showed it to her - she was very moved and appreciative. The many nights we ate at that restaurant (way in the back, my mom had 4 of us, and one of us was my brother...) - the grill man (what the heck was his name?) was the best in the biz. Thanks, Bruce. This ashtray is now a treasured heirloom, all the more precious for our having lost our folks last summer. Ah, the memories!!!

Oh - about NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY -- it's a perfect little gem of a musical, 4 actors (the "older" actress gets to play 5-count 'em-five parts, all with different voices and accents!!! Yummmmmm!), a non-set, and what sounds like a pit band of maybe five killer doublers! Ooooooooo, let's do a show!!

The roles the "older" actress gets to play are: a very Jewish mother, an irish widow, an aging Italian tango dancer, a Noo Yawk barfly, and the dead diva mother of the serial killer!!! So - one of the Mother monologues from JEWISH THIGHS, and the Old Lady's Tango from CANDIDE should work for Saturday's audition...

Here is some news from Warner Bros. that will make two DRs very happy...both MASK OF FU MANCHU and ATTACK OF THE 50 FT WOMAN are scheduled for release this year.

JRand55, I think you ought to contact WB and offer your services on the AO50FW release.

Good morning!

Gray, drizzly day here so far, but not especially cold, and expected to get to the mid-50s today and even warmer the next few days.

I knew that Warner Bros. three hour chat went on last night, but between the Winter Olympics and AMERICAN IDOL, I couldn't squeeze it into my schedule. I'll read the transcipt at some point today.

The grill man was Al - immortalized in the first Kritzer book.  I didn't remember his name, but my brother told me.

I feel sure Stevie will be let go on Thursday night. Her song choice was terrible, completely uninvolving, and her nerves worked against her in her fluttery soprano vocal. I can't see her garnering much support based on that performance.

I, too, do not like the mouthy, obnoxious Breena. There's not an ounce of graciousness about her.

Because Kelly lives fairly near Charlotte, of course I'm pulling for her, but her inexperience really showed last night despite the potential she also showed. I think she's make it to the finals - there are some other more forgettable average vocalists that she can outshine plus her sunny personality is very winning, but unless she gets her nerves under control and can take command of the stage (which those four I mentioned could do), I don't see her lasting very long in the finals.

And for those who didn't watch, the 16 year old Lisa sang "I Am Changing" from DREAMGIRLS for her first full appearance before the audience. Obviously, she had studied Jennifer Holliday's rendition very carefully because it was definitely modeled on it. Still, she brought down the house.

I'm going to put in PIN UP GIRL today to watch before I segue into CARDS ON THE TABLE.

From the reviews I've read, the transfer of PIN UP GIRL isn't as vibrant as that of WEEK-END IN HAVANA, so I'll be interested in seeing the quality difference.

Still can't believe that Fox chose PIN UP GIRL as their first Betty Grable release instead of her more famous DOLLY SISTERS or MOTHER WORE TIGHTS or DOWN ARGENTINE WAY.

Ah, well, they've really surprised me with the deluxe slipcases they have bound these discs in. No wonder they cost a bit more than the discs in their Studio Classics and Film Noir series

I will say that Irina Slutskya's jumps were bigger that Sasha's. Higher, more flamboyant. But her spiral sequence was quite wobbly, very unsteady compared to Sasha's effortless, unmatchable leg positions on her spirals. I have to say she's pretty astonishing with those, and I read after the national championships that her spiral sequence gets as many points as a single triple lutz jump due to its difficulty and transitions.

As for the pants issue, this is a change in the rules.

During her reign as national and world champion, Debi Thomas wore a unitard to perform her short programs. After she left the sport, the use of unitards and pants was banned from competition, and that rule has just been changed this year. For the more athletic, less etheral skaters like Slutskya, the look suits them.

I don't personally care for it, but it does set her apart from the others, and that, of course, is her goal.

I think a Parent-Hetic is one that does not believe in the sayings of parents - "You'll go blind" etc.
Close, DR Tomovoz.  Parenthetic is a portmanteau word, a combination of parent and pathetic.  It refers to those who raise their children in a half-@##ed manner, and then make lamentable excuses for why they can't get a decent meal on the table or teach the children proper manners.  Der Brucer's daughter is parenthetic.

Portmanteau is not a reference to actor Natalie's younger sister, of course.

I recently picked a new primary care physician. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age. A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, "Do you think I'll live to be 80?"

He asked, "Do you smoke tobacco or drink beer/wine?"

"Oh no," I replied. "I don't do either."

Then he asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?"

I said, "No, my other Doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!"

"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?" he asked.

"No, I don't." I said.

He asked, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?"

"No," I said. "I don't do any of those things."

He looked at me and said, "Then why do you give a #$%& if you live to be 80?"

Good morning all.

A question that was posed at dinner last night... what would you do with the money if you were the single winner of a the $365 million powerball?
Buy or build a very large house somewhere in the country here on the Eastern seaboard.  The house would include a fantastic kitchen, lots of room for lots of dogs...and a heliport.  Hey, how else would I manage to get to the various large (and small) cities in very little time?

If I wanted to stay in town for some reason, I could easily book a hotel room.  That's what hotels are for.

Of course, I'd have to have staff hired.  A driver/pilot, for example (because der B is getting tired of that job, I think, and he's regularly late).

After that, taking care of my Dad and Stepmom, and resolving the education issues for the grandlads, those would be priorities.
