Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not very interesting, and now it is time for you to post until the not very interesting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ESCAPADE!
-
Well, I've been trying to change some of the settings in my recording program and so far, I haven't found anything that's helped. :-\ I can only hope that Larry will know what to do. I still have quite a few programs that I want to put on Blu-ray!
-
And on that note (B-flat), I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
The alarm rang at 6:15 and only the cats were excited about it. It took mne another 9 minutes to get out of bed, although Stella did her damnedest to make me move.
-
Iy's been probably twenty years since I last watched To Kill A Mockingbird, and all the posts yeaterday make me want to watch it again.
-
This is another quiet day. At 1:00 I'm on a conference call with animal activist Andrew Weprin and others to urge New York legislature to pass CAPA.

Another musical version of Some Like It Hot? WTF? I never cared much about Sugar, although I like a lot of the score.
What really good musicals have been adapted from brilliant films?
-
TOD
Edward G. Robinson
Double Indemnity
The Ten Commandments
George Raft
Some Like It Hot
-
Two hours later and no posts? Where are our early morning denizens? ? ?
-
T.O.D.
Too many favorite Robinson/Raft movies to mention.
I had the pleasure of meeting Robinson, and I lunched a couple of times with Raft.
Forgive me, Bruce, but this is a perfect opportunity to plug my play, ROBINSON & RAFT.

Good morning, all.
-
Little known fact a movie titled ESCAPADE marked the US debut of Luise Rainer.....and Clifford Odets fell in love with her when he saw the movie.....and later married her.....
-
Important envelope vibes for MR BK.
-
I am positive I saw Sugar at the Dorothy Chandler in L.A., but I don't find a program here and I remember little of it.
I do recall that it was when I'd recently begun wearing contact lenses. I loved them, but my eyes were very dry that evening and it distracted me from enjoyment of the show. But I also remember not being real excited about the show. Very thankful for BK's CD, though.

TOD:
EGR:
Little Caesar
Double Indemnity
Tight Spot
The Ten Commandments
Soylent Green
George Raft
Some Like It Hot
Black Widow
Johnny Allegro
Nocturne
The Glass Key

My friends just completed a production of SUGAR in Brazil Indiana....I did not see it.....
-
Maybe we'll soon see a musical version of NIAGARA.....well...if they can do KING KONG onstage.....why not?
-
Well, things are getting real here. Or should I say "real"?
Got word late last night that the Willy Wonka musical and all other spring events at this high school (including all concerts and assemblies and I believe some sporting events) are officially CANCELLED.
This is devastating -- for the school, the students, and the extra hired personnel like yrs truly. Everyone involved is in shock at the moment. But it's particularly scary as it could so easily be the start of a statewide domino effect.

Good luck it passes!
-
DR Chas I am sorry the after school activities, and your job, were cancelled. Unfortunately people can't be trusted to stay home. Yesterday I read the news story about the father & daughter, who were in quarantine as the older sister was tested for COVID-19, that went to the school father -daughter dance.
While at the dance they received news the sister tested positive and went home, after much damage was done.

Scary times.
We have a cruise booked for late this year.
Thankfully, we have until September to cancel without penalty.
Hopefully, this will all be a memory by then.
-
Friends were supposed to leave for a cruise on Friday. Yesterday they cancelled.
-
We have friends on two different cruises. I am tracking them, especially the Princess ship returning from Hawaii. They said extra precautions are being taken on the ship. It sounds like what they have done on cruises where there were a number of cases of the norovirus.
-
We cancelled two cruises to spend more time with our granddaughter. Now I wonder when I will be able to hold her.

Smiles of a Summer Night/A Little Night Music

The 1:00 phone call didn't happen until 2:00, but I hope it does some good with pushing transparency at the New York Animal Care Centers. There are too many silent kills, and too many adoptable dogs are put down. No adoptable puppy between 4 months old to a year should be euthanized ever.

I'll accept that, but Smiles of A Summer Night is a foreign film in Swedish, as opposed to a popular American film. I can't think of any successful popular movies in well-made musical adaptations, except maybe for Hairspray. I think the Bergman adaptation, like Once, succeeds because it's not a slavish attempt to put the film on a stage with second-rate stage impersonations of the film's stars.
-
And foreign films don't always adapt well. Look at The King of Hearts or The Baker's Wife. I wonder if Carnival In Flanders was too early; I love the film and could see it made into a musical.

That's really too bad. I got an e-mail from the Washington Center that the two performances of a traveling dog show has been cancelled. I had also gotten tickets for my friend David for that show (he asked me to buy them for him since he lives in Seattle) and now have to pay him back when I get the refund, which is fine, but a hassle. :-\

Once...well, that's a very good musical, but I've never seen the film, so I don't know if it would be considered "brilliant." ::)

What about Lili and Carnival?

Got a WGA residual check today for KEATON'S COP (1990) and CHEYENNE WARRIOR (1994).
Not enough to buy a new car, but certainly enough to take the wife out to a nice dinner.

My late client and friend, Dan O'Herlihy, was in THE LAST STARFIGHTER.
I recall visiting the set at MGM; meeting Robert Preston, who was a charming man.

Wow, I opened directly to the notes without having to refresh :o I am on my computer, going to go see if that works on my tablet.

Didn't work, had to refresh first on my tablet.

The Last Starfighter is not yet a Broadway musical, and God knows what changes might occur during rehearsals getting it there. I liked the fact that it doesn't try to replicate the film.

Carnival and Promises Promises, like A Little Night Music, are certainly indebted to their source, but they very much have their own tone and style and are not slavish imitations of the films they were adapted from.

The fake newsmongers are saying Daniel Radcliffe has coronavirus. Don’t believe it.

One school in the next county has closed for 10 days.....and I think said that DePauw University canceled their two March music happenings.....
Like DR DRUXY I hope this is soon behind us.....what with the summer season coming up for us - and all.
-
I watched Go, Johnny, Go - a rock n roll film about that great rocker Johnny Melody - who was discovered by Alan Freed and rocketed to stardom.....
It has TWO directors of photography - one of whom is the uncle of DR JEANNE - Ed Fitzgerald.
It's a Hal Roach, Jr production.....
-
Johnny Melody is played by Jimmy Clanton - who must have given singing lessons to Arch Hall, Jr......they sound the same....
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Since tomorrow's surgery has been rescheduled I have a relatively free week. Hooray! MUCH to catch up on. I'm really glad I'm not having surgery in the midst of the coronavirus. It really knocked me out last time. I did lots of errands and shopping ahead of time to prepare for it, so that's behind me. And I now can have a few days to putter and relax.

Yes, Eddie worked for Hal Roach Studios in Culver City for many years. I don't recall that film, but I was too young to have heard about much of his work. What I do recall were THE GALE STORM SHOW and LASSIE. Campbell's Soup sponsored LASSIE and gave my aunt and uncle a big wicker basket of soup each year at Christmas, which also included a set of drinking glasses with a decal of Lassie on each one. These are the things kids remember. :)
Thanks for mentioning it.

I'm glad to hear they are taking extra precautions. I spoke with my friend in Hawaii the other day. He is quite well-informed on health issues and told me that they are not going out in public places any more than they have to--no movie theaters, minimal grocery shopping trips, etc. One of the infected ships had stopped there and loads of people went on shore. There's no way to know how many may have been infected and unknowingly spread it around the island. My friends are being quite cautious.

Carnival and Promises Promises, like A Little Night Music, are certainly indebted to their source, but they very much have their own tone anmd style and are not slavish imitations of the films they were adapted from.
And that’s the critical thing. These weren’t even remotely conceived to be Lili: The Musical!; The Apartment: The Musical!, etc.

Found some Lysol wipes today. It was like discovering gold.
I use the disinfecting wipes by Seventh Generation. I can't compare them to Lysol or other conventional brands in terms of effectiveness, but I choose them because they don't bother my allergies and sensitivities. If someone is looking for disinfecting wipes and the conventional ones aren't available, they might have better luck with the health store brands.

Vibes to all.
TTFN.
-
And what does one say about The King & I, supposedly based on and credited to the book by Margaret Landen, but actually based on the Sally Benson screenplay for Anna and the King of Siam?
-
The musical Oliver! owes more to David Lean's film of Oliver Twist than to Charles Dickens.

SpongeBob: The Musical is very much in the style of the TV show, but the adaptation is quite unique, IMHO (in my humble opinion, in Internet speak), and it's otherwise an original story. I've watched it again since the original broadcast and I still like it. :)

Kid Galahad

My favorite Edward G movie I enjoy watching is The Little Giant.

Our Washington governor Washington Governor is considering taking mandatory measures to prevent an increase in coronavirus cases.
Asked by reporters whether he was considering mandatory measures like school closures statewide, or just in hard-hit areas, Inslee said he expected to have news on that “in very short order.”
“Shutting down any social activity has profound consequences in people’s lives,” said Inslee. “You have to see if there are ways to reduce them or ameliorate that.”

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I finished running the sound and light boards at Olympia Little Theatre. Their next show is The Bold The Young and The Murdered (http://www.olympialittletheater.org/shows/the-bold-the-young-and-the-murdered/). I've never heard of it, but I know a few people in it. Anyway, the director (who was also the SM for Equivocation) posted on FB that they need a light board operator. A friend of mine tagged me, and I admitted that I was free, so tech week starts on Sunday and I'll be running the light board again for the next four weeks. :D
-
Here's the synopsis from OLT's website:
The long-running soap opera, The Bold and the Young, is in its last days. Its hunky hero has self-esteem issues, its villain is now an old man who is more interested in soup than villainous deeds, and its heroines are getting goony. The executive producer gives the squabbling cast an ultimatum. Complete one episode overnight or the show is over! When the director is murdered and other cast members start dropping like flies, it seems his threat might come true. Can these misfits discover the murderer before the show is literally killed off?

Emma. was a lot of fun. Rich in detail, great comedic timing. The whole cast was wonderful together.
-
I just hate the period in the title.
-
Started watching Roma, last year's most talked about Mexican flick. It's OK. I'm not getting swept away by it, though. It's somewhat cold.
-
I'm off to bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
I'm up, I'm up - oh, wait...
-
Another burger day - I took the one thick patty left from yesterday and sliced it in two and got two burgers out of it, albeit one was very tiny. They were good, but now I have to take a break from that for a few days. Perhaps tomorrow will be a chicken day of some sort.
-
Picked up packages and an important envelope, did some banking.
-
Listened to music, watched a motion picture, and got a few more book orders, including one from the very sweet Bill Hayes. I sent out my personal eBlast today and I'm hoping we get some from that - well, we've had three already.
-
What is this page four malarkey?
-
I did doze off for a bit at some point.

Yes, I did.
-
What is this page five malarkey?

I made a salad with balsamic but only eight three bites before tossing it in the trash - just didn't taste very good.

Is it the balsamic vinegar? I find most are too tangy. I also add olive oil

It looks like we may not be going after all.

I may be wrong. I know they took out a couple of rows many years ago, and I don’t know what the actual number is today.

I just counted the seating chart (on my fingers) and I think it comes out to 254, or so.

It seems (to me) to be smaller than Harlequin's State Theater, which has about 210 seats.

212...I just counted their seats.

Sorry, I didn't specify.
