Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the closing of In My Mind's Eye, and now it is time to post until the closing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EXPEDITIOUS!
-
First post?
-
Oh, I guess George left.
-
I enjoyed the photos in the notes.
-
Happy birthday to the darling daughter 🎁💐
-
Happy birthday to Peyton 🎂🎈
-
Oh, I guess George left.
I'm back! ;D
-
I enjoyed the photos in the notes.
Ditto!!
-
A Very Happy Birthday to both Peyton Kirkner and BK's Very Own Darling Daughter!! :D
-
Today is the first day of my work's being closed for at least two weeks, so I won't be there. I will have to go in for at least one day next week so that I can finish paying the invoices that have come in, and compile the report for the finance office so that the invoices can be paid.
-
I'll also need to stop in on Wednesday or Thursday because I'm expecting a shipment of cat food from Amazon.
-
Don't forget to pay my invoice. Oh, wait...
-
Off to bed...finally.
Have a good day, all!
-
What is this bed malarky?
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well last night.
-
J heard on the news this morning that NY restaurants are closed, except for delivery and take-out. All elective surgeries are urged to be postponed, but I have no idea if that includes me. I will call the surgeon today.
-
I begin my week of cleaning. Today, after I run out to post three checks, I plan to take the kitchen apart and give it a good cleaning. This may take two days.
-
If the surgery is postponed, I will at least have done my spring cleaning.
-
I've been planning to write an Appalachian requiem for my dad since 2007. Now that I'm essentially stuck here at home, I just might actually turn my research into a finish piece.
-
Too true to be funny.
-
Good morning!
-
Happy Birthday to Peyton!
-
Happy Birthday to BK's Darling Daughter!
-
Good morning, all.

Happy Birthday to BK's Darling Daughter!
And more birthday wishes!
-
Happy birthday, Peyton!
-
Must start work.

Speaking of voice recognition: a couple of years ago I received a voice mail from my friend Todd regarding our upcoming trip to NYC. According to the written transcript he said "there's a new show we might like called "Anesthesia.'" I thought that was a strange title for a show. Of course it should have been "Anastasia."

Page 2!

Good one, Kevin.

Monday morning greetings! So, I decided sometime between 5 and 6am, when I couldn't sleep, that physical therapy is probably "elective." So, I called at 7:30 to cancel this morning's appointment and inquire about suspending further treatment for the time being. Katy, the manager, said that under Medicare I can resume anytime within 2 months and that I was the 4th person to call since they'd opened at 7.
-
Nice photo in the notes.....and the music cues are very nice.
Congrats to MR BK & Co. on their success.
-
Happy Birthday to Peyton.
Happy Birthday to MR BK's DD, Jennifer.
-
I am concerned a bit about attending my cousin's funeral tomorrow....I am on the fence. I will talk to my brother and sister today and see what they think.......
-
I guess the debates were not last night.....at least I couldn't find them.....unless they were only from 8-9 p.m.
I started watching THE MAJOR & THE MINOR and I was laughing so I forgot to turn the channel......until after 9 p.m. half way through the movie.
-
TOD:
I may work a bit on my blocking and rehearsal schedule for ANYTHING GOES.....it won't hurt.....although once the show is cast I may have to change it up because of "conflicts".....
-
My auditions are four weeks away, so I am hoping things calm down in the meantime.
-
TOD - Well, I promised Katy the PT that I would continue my ankle therapy here at home, so I'll do those exercises 2 or 3 times a day and ice afterwards. I also have 2 online classes for DAR to complete and lots and lots of papercrafting supplies calling my name.
-

I enjoyed the music very much.

I’m in captivity at home today. Most everyone has been able to log on.
-
DR TCB are there any other grocery stores around you that deliver? Around here they are all doing curbside pick up at no extra cost. Maybe you have something like this? Good luck.
-
Good morning, all.

I'd like to declare my own physical, which is due later this week, "elective". I'll be calling them today to ask, and see if they'll grant me another refill on my prescription and let me schedule it for some time later. I've already postponed it a couple of times, so ... we'll see. Otherwise, I'll have to go in there by Friday and I really don't want to if I don't have to.

If they are sanitizing everything well, and not as busy as usual, I would go.

Always do your PT exercises at home.

I would think not and you have already done all of the pre-op tests.

Very nice notes and photos, and I especially appreciated the sound clips. I've developed a real appreciation for incidental music for plays, and it's nice to hear that BK has the feel for it. Listening again as I type this.
If I had the creative ability to put two notes together I'd try to write some myself, but I am no composer, no sirree. But I happily play other people's notes. I've provided tracks for an Amadeus (the music for it is included in the script) and a couple of other plays in which the intended music (classical or other public domain stuff) is specified, more or less, and you just have to go out and get it and make it happen.
That all gets prerecorded, of course, and then you're done. My absolute favorite was the Act One score which is fully integrated with the play and is played live. It's good dramatic scene setting and underscoring, and it's even written for two pianos, not one. There was no way this particular theater company was going to hire two people, though, and I (mostly successfully) condensed it to one.

Happy Birthday to BK's Darling Daughter!
Ditto!

After I mailed my three payments at the corner, I stopped in the corner bodega. I knew they were expecting a bread delivery and I was hoping it had come. There were four loaves of bread, a bag of hamburger buns, and a loaf of rye bread. I grabbed the buns and one of the two loaves of whole wheat. I asked the owner about a delivery, and he said that it had arrived earlier and that was all that was left.
-
Happy Birthday to BK's Darling Daughter!
Ditto!
And another!
-
Well they just closed all restaurants and bars in Indiana for inside dining......
-
DR JANE it turns out that my cousin's son Joey had passed away a few years ago.....when I read that, I remembered it.....

T.O.D.
When in trouble or in doubt:
Run in circles!
Scream and shout!

Actually, I'm taking my dog to the vet today to get his annual shots.

Dr Aronoff's office called. The surgery is still on for Monday, but he may move it up to this week!

So there's this bunch of old Tony Award shows on YouTube and I was just clicking around to get a feel for what's there. I started the 1961 show and was stunned to find Metropolitan Opera soprano Eleanor Steber coming out to sing the Star Spangled Banner. I hadn't heard that voice in a long time, and OMG this is powerful. One of the truly great voices, and it's so sad that she ... um, burned herself out while in her prime. She still sounded pretty magnificent in the late 1960s and early 1970s when I was around her in Cleveland and accompanying some of her students, but my God, what she had in the years before. And the Star Spangled Banner don't get any better than this.

EDIT: If that link doesn't start the video right at the beginning, just put it there.

Exactly.

I made one "last" trip into Shop Rite for the additional two packages of corned beef I want to make tomorrow. It's unbelievable how empty the shelves are of more and more items. I was told the bread aisle was depleted yesterday afternoon, and it had been pretty well replenished this morning. But less than an hour later (I did something in between walking in twice), it was halfway down.
In the meantime, workers are constantly opening boxes and putting items on shelves. But it can't very well be ANY of the "hot" items. I have absolutely no idea whether the paper and drug supplies are getting replenished at all since the run on them days ago.
We're set for a good couple of weeks, and without hoarding anything at all. It's just lucky we'd bought PT and TP a little before this happened. I really wonder how this situation is going to be corrected.
-
Are you ready, Elmore, if they move it up?
-
Today is my sister Linda’s birthday, too.
-
Went to the store. The produce options were better. There was some pasta snd even a few canned beans. But no dried beans. No canned tuna. No rotisserie chicken.
-
Idris Elba has tested pos for covid-19.
-
Are you ready, Elmore, if they move it up?
Emotionally, no, but I'm no coward, and I will be glad to get it over. The good thing is I have two days before it happens: the day they call me to begin the prep work and the day of prep work. It's like the prep for a colonoscopy but more intense with antibiotics and, if needed, anti-nausea pills.
-
I need to go into the surgeon's office tomorrow morning to pick up the Suprep. They will give it to me for free. If I go to my pharmacy, it's $150! Taxis and buses are cheaper. My biggest fear is that I will pick it up and they'll tell me to begin it as soon as I get home.
-
I'm up, I'm up - about seven-and-a-half hours of sleep.
-
I am so actively bored of people on Facebook right now. All they can do is talk about how they can't find eggs, or they had to endure the market with 200 others (some social distancing, that) to not find what they want, or hand sanitizer, and when you say something like "Anyone ever hear of this thing called soap?" they unhumorously pile on you and that includes two former dear readers this very day. Here's the deal: If you've lost your sense of reality and/or humor, stay far away from me.
-
I suppose I'll go to the mail place, then come back here.

Soap is said to be more effective than hand sanitizer. It’s just not as convenient.
-
I recently sent Mom a copy of Where the Crawdads Sing. She stayed up sll night resding it because she couldn’t put it down. So, what do I send her next?

DR JANE it turns out that my cousin's son Joey had passed away a few years ago.....when I read that, I remembered it.....
:(
-
I was thinking either Gerald Durrell or A Gentleman in Moscow.
-
Dr Aronoff's office called. The surgery is still on for Monday, but he may move it up to this week!
That would be good as you seem to have done everything you need to do.
-
Dr Aronoff's office called. The surgery is still on for Monday, but he may move it up to this week!

Exactly.
The sooner you have the surgery the faster you are out of there, before there are more virus patients. Other surgeries have likely been postponed.
-

I always take anti-nausea pills. They work better if you take them before getting nauseated.

Except, Dear Bruce, you aren't joking when you mention soap. It is appropriate if someone needs a ton of it for their home, however, when shown a small amount in a travel size bottle...sorry, not funny ;D

You can't take it outside with you, which is the reason for hand sanitizer.
-
After we told Craig to lock up the hand sanitizer in his class room he picked up a small travel size for himself. He now carries it with him and really needed it on Saturday. He befriended a teenager who shook hands with him. They walked together awhile and talked. But as soon as Craig separated from the kid he used his hand sanitizer :)

I recently sent Mom a copy of Where the Crawdads Sing. She stayed up sll night resding it because she couldn’t put it down. So, what do I send her next?
Such a good book. I have to think on this. What other books does she like?
-
This morning we worked out.
-
Then we stopped at Trader Joe's and I stocked up on my artichoke hearts I like there. Not hoarding, just buy extra jars like I normally do as we don't go there very often.
-
I was able to purchase a head of cabbage :)
-
Then we went to Chucks which is small market. There are two locally and they are great for produce and other items we can't find elsewhere. There also had plenty of cabbage. I don't know what the craziness at Fred Meyer was on Sunday.
-
Chucks was very busy but we found almost everything we were looking for. Missing was plain tofu and a canned Loma Linda veggie soy product.
-
Now that I am done posting we are off for a walk.
-
She loved Pat Conroy’s Beach Music, except for all the freaking profanity, five or six Trollope novels, Jane Austen, Balzac, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, except it was so sad, Elizabeth Gaskell, the Lark Rise to Candleford books.
-
What about Dickens?
-
Maybe a little too depressing. She liked David Copperfield many years ago
-
I recently sent Mom a copy of Where the Crawdads Sing. She stayed up sll night resding it because she couldn’t put it down. So, what do I send her next?
The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek
City of Girls
Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk
The Atomic Weight of Love
Miller’s Valley

DR JOHN G has your mother read all of the Lake Woebegone books?
-
I called my doctor's office and it was recommended to me that I do not attend the funeral....so I am not.
-
DR JOHN G has your mother read all of the Lake Woebegone books?
Ooh, no. The Lutheran jokes might be over her head, but that sounds good.
-
I'll tell you the places that are not busy - gas stations. Empty. And yet these morons haven't dropped the prices as have everyone in every other state. It's outrageous, especially right now.
-
Picked up a couple of packages, got Taco Bell for food, came home, ate it. Terse, but factual. There was a line of cars for the drive-through but only me and one other guy in the jernt, so yes, you can go inside and order but not dine in. The other guy was masked and gloved, BTW.

Plenty here to explore. Thank you.

Gas is $1.75 a gallon here and dropping daily. I’d rather have stronger retirement funds.
-
$2.13 per gallon here at Costco and BJ's.
That's down from $2.31 which had held steady for weeks. This decrease happened all within the past week.

Maybe a little too depressing. She liked David Copperfield many years ago
Thomas Hardy?
Stella Gibbons?

Stells Gibbons, yes. But I like my mother. Why would I give her or anyone else Thomas Hardy? Sorry, but I loathed Tess, Jude the Obscure, The Well-Beloved and Return of the Native. And I liked those more than his poetry.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
It's cold, windy, and wet here today, so I opted for staying home. I made a falafel sandwich, using the falafel I'd saved from yesterday's falafel salad for today's sandwich. I don't mind staying in for a day or two, but some officials are suggesting two MONTHS. I'd go nuts. Plus, I need food!
-
I am very concerned about this. We can no longer rely on our local markets to have much inventory and restaurants are hurting for customers. The supermarkets have customers, but limited inventory. The restaurants have food, but limited customers.
-
I'm running low on bottled water. Usually I'd pick up a bottle or two at Trader Joe's between Amazon deliveries, but Trader Joe's is not the place to be if you want social distancing. I ordered some from Amazon, but their supplies were low, too. The two items I purchased-- bottled water and magnesium gel--were both listed as Prime items, and yet my delivery date isn't until next Friday. It sounds like they're swamped.
-
They still have lots of books, though. :)
-
I really do want to do more culling. Things pile up so quickly! I need to be in the mood for it, though, or I accomplish little. I'm still adjusting to the coronavirus fall-out and my concentration isn't the best right now.
-
I called my doctor's office and it was recommended to me that I do not attend the funeral....so I am not.
That's a shame.
-
Happy Birthday to Peyton!
-
Happy Birthday to the Darling Daughter!
-
Happy Birthday to John G's sister Linda!
-
Bruce, I enjoyed the incidental music. Thanks for posting it.
-
Julie Walters is on Acorn TV, starting tonight, in THE RETURN. I'm looking forward to it.
-
TTFN.

From the BBC News:
... Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation last week announced that they had prepared 500,000 testing kits and 1 million masks to be sent to America.
They also said that they had already donated supplies to other countries including Japan, South Korea, Italy, Iran and Spain, with two million protective masks pledged for distribution across Europe.
The first consignment of 500,000 masks and other medical supplies such as test kits, which was destined for Italy, arrived in Belgium on Friday.
-
Pouring rain here.
-
Had a little visit with Grant.
-
For those who are having market issues, which I think WILL abate once Facebook idiots stop with their bullcrap, I'd recommend take-out - restaurants appreciate it and it's easy to do - most do online ordering, then you simply pick it up.
-

Says you. But I do understand that everyone has lost their ability to have a sense of humor - not this kid.
Sorry, I would have laughed if it was a huge bottle, but half a little travel one. You should have put a wink after your comment or a laughing face.
-
Then we stopped at Trader Joe's and I stocked up on my artichoke hearts I like there. Not hoarding, just buy extra jars like I normally do as we don't go there very often.
DR Jane, you may have ALL of my artichoke hearts.
;D
I purchased 6 jars in total, still leaving plenty on the shelf. As I was checking out I explained I was not hoarding, just buying the usual amount as I don't go to TJ's very often. The checker laughed & said she wasn't even thinking that.
-
I called my doctor's office and it was recommended to me that I do not attend the funeral....so I am not.
I am sorry but it is probably wise you don't go. They will understand.
-
DR JOHN G has your mother read all of the Lake Woebegone books?
Ooh, no. The Lutheran jokes might be over her head, but that sounds good.
Interesting as I could not get into that, but then I am not a Keillor fan.
-
I'll tell you the places that are not busy - gas stations. Empty. And yet these morons haven't dropped the prices as have everyone in every other state. It's outrageous, especially right now.
We stopped for gas on our way home and it wasn't bad at all. Maybe because people don't need much gas when they can't go anywhere ;)
-

Thomas Hardy?
Stella Gibbons?
Stells Gibbons, yes. But I like my mother. Why would I give her or anyone else Thomas Hardy? Sorry, but I loathed Tess, Jude the Obscure, The Well-Beloved and Return of the Native. And I liked those more than his poetry.
I loved Far From the Madding Crowd.

That is nice of your surgeon to give it to you. I found a little lime gatorade in my mouth before beginning the drink helped. I would drink as much as possible, stop & take more gatorade and begin drinking again.
-
I was thinking either Gerald Durrell or A Gentleman in Moscow.
I am not familiar with Durrell. When my current book group read A Gentleman in Moscow I found those who weren't as keen on it missed the humor. I read it twice and laughed more the second time.
-
She loved Pat Conroy’s Beach Music, except for all the freaking profanity, five or six Trollope novels, Jane Austen, Balzac, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, except it was so sad, Elizabeth Gaskell, the Lark Rise to Candleford books.
Hmm, no mysteries. I preferred Prince of Tides to Beach Music, but then I identified with it more. My friend who identified with Beach Music preferred it.

Always worth a re-read.
The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
-
My best suggestion, Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson.

Too true to be funny.

Today is my sister Linda’s birthday, too.
A Very Happy Birthday to John's sister, Linda! :D
-
I called my doctor's office and it was recommended to me that I do not attend the funeral....so I am not.
That's too bad, Jrand. :-\

I just got gas a couple of days ago and it wasn't anywhere near that low! I was robbed! >:(

I'm home watching Doctor Who.
-
I'm on my third episode today, then I jst have the 2-part season finale...then, I can read the several articles about the show that I've bookmarked but haven't read because they all contain spoilers!
-
So, I'm posting from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S (the first generation) tablet.
-
I like both of DR Jane’s book suggestions!
:)
Have you read The Bridge by Doug Marlette? I highly recommend this one.
-
It has all of 16GB of storage space, but for a long time, it's been pretty full and I haven't figured out what all I can delete to make room, so I just decided to bite the bullet and do a total factory reset.
-
I made screenshots of all of my apps and my desktop screens and other assorted info, and today I did the reset.
-
I went from 15.1GB of used storage to only 6.71GB!
-
The first thing that I did when it was all done was to come here and make sure HHW still worked properly...and it does.
-
And, OF COURSE, I had to turn off the predictive typing and spell check! ;D
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
A Painted House by John Grisham.
-
I like both of DR Jane’s book suggestions!
:)
Have you read The Bridge by Doug Marlette? I highly recommend this one.
No, but I’ll look into it.
-
Otherwise, what's left seems to work.
-
I'll have to again redownload any apps that I still want.
-
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jaime Ford.
-
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
-
DR John, happy birthday to Linda 🎁🎂
-
I just noticed that I passed a millstone! :D
-
Congratulations.
-
That’s quite the millstone, DR George.
I’m terrible at never thinking to look at the numbers.
-

Oh, no...Thurston County now has 4 confirmed coronavirus cases (https://amp.theolympian.com/news/local/article241245101.html). :(

Except, Dear Bruce, you aren't joking when you mention soap. It is appropriate if someone needs a ton of it for their home, however, when shown a small amount in a travel size bottle...sorry, not funny ;D
Says you. But I do understand that everyone has lost their ability to have a sense of humor - not this kid.
Sorry, I would have laughed if it was a huge bottle, but half a little travel one. You should have put a wink after your comment or a laughing face.
Yes, given the state of everyone I should have put a smiley face. I should have thought the point that I commented the way I did about a tiny little thing would have been a clew, but no.

Excellent milestone for George.
-
Maybe a little too depressing. She liked David Copperfield many years ago
Thomas Hardy?
Stella Gibbons?
Stells Gibbons, yes. But I like my mother. Why would I give her or anyone else Thomas Hardy? Sorry, but I loathed Tess, Jude the Obscure, The Well-Beloved and Return of the Native. And I liked those more than his poetry.
I loved Far From the Madding Crowd.
I liked it. The one Hardy I loved was The Mayor of Casterbridge, but I don’t want to give Mom a book about wife abuse.

I just noticed that I passed a millstone! :D
Excellent news.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
She has read that. I think I bought it for her a few years ago.
-
I was thinking either Gerald Durrell or A Gentleman in Moscow.
I am not familiar with Durrell. When my current book group read A Gentleman in Moscow I found those who weren't as keen on it missed the humor. I read it twice and laughed more the second time.
His first three books are what the TV show The Durrells in Corfu was based on.

I don’t think my mom would like one of the books I’m currently reading, The Iron Heel by Jack London. It’s all about the socialist revolution and is said to be the first dystopian novel. I’m finding it too black and white, but as I’m about half through it, I will probably finish it.

I have had more than 20 work emails since I logged put for the day. Go away, people. 7 am comes soon enough.

Excellent milestone for George.
Thanks, BK!

Thanks, John!

Now a real disaster has struck work: They're limiting the services offered by the three Starbucks on the main campus. They're probably even calling off the cold-press cart that cycles through the main floor.
Oh, the humanity.
-
Congratulations on you shiny new millstone George!

Thank you, all, for the suggestions. I send off A Gentleman in Moscow and My Family and Other Animals. I will keep the rest of the suggestions for the next round, which I expect to be monthly or quarterly.
There are a few I want to read, too. I heard Major Pettigrew was wonderful, and I love the title of The Atomic Weight of Love.
-
In doing some research on City of Girls, I came across two different books, The Atomic City Girls (a novel) and The Girls of Atomic City (nonfiction). The nonfiction looks promising to start with.
-
Has anyone read Elena Ferrante or watched the series based on her books?
-
Seven!

Just finished watching the Chinese Long Day's Journey into Night. Don't know what I think. It's very dreamy, but the second half of the film is even more so, with everything occurring in one continuous take that is sad, surreal, funny and a little scary. You have to stay with it. The first half jumps around in time and you never know where you stand or where the story is going. I liked it, but it also seemed to keep you at arm's length. More technically brilliant than emotionally gripping.

I've been off Facebook for three hours - what a difference! This is the place to be - where sanity rules the day.

Good night, all.

Finished with my viewing.

That’s quite the millstone, DR George.
I’m terrible at never thinking to look at the numbers.
I normally don't pay attention to them.

I think not. Hmmm, maybe the timing isn't right for Major Pettegrew.
