Well, you've read the notes, the notes were experimental with an emphasis on the mental, and now it is time for you to post until the experimental cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VIRIDITY!
-
BK, that would be so cool if you put Doug's play and A Carol Christmas on YouTube! I'm sure a lot of people would love to see them! I know I would! I don't suppose an actual DVD release would be a possibility, then.
-
Last night, jan wrote: "You mean, if I dropped in on you, you wouldn't share a salad with me? I'd bake something for you!"
The day locked before I could post my response, which was going to be: "If you showed up in time, I'd share. If not...it's all mine!"
-
:D

Today, I want to pop into work to pick up the cat food that I had ordered from Amazon, but I'm not exactly sure how long the mail clerk or anyone else will be in the building. I can get into the building when it's completely locked up, but I might as well try to get there when someone official might be there. We'll see if I do. ;)
-
And now, I need to get some sleep.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I've been pondering my day and all that must be accomplished before Sunday.
-
Annabelle is not eating this morning. I am not happy.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I was just reading and deleting the emails from banks and stores and even our own Cat Clinic regarding their latest "protocols" for interaction between us and them. It's getting depressing.
-
I do have to make one run out to Costco this morning in the hope that I can get my usual couple of boxes of the cat litter I buy there.
-
As I was briefly surfing the web, I saw someone playing a flute. It took me about two seconds, but that triggered my memory of having had a dream last night or this morning about me (ME) playing the flute. Bizarre how that happens. I hadn't remembered the dream at all, but a visual image brought it to me.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I’m very tired.
-
TOD:
Ice cream
That’s the king, but I also usually have peas, pie crusts, rhubarb, meat of various types, nuts.
-
Off to the land of meetings.
-
Good morning!
-
I think we have some VIRIDITY growing on the north side of the house.
-
I read DR TCB's post with interest. I, too, am not sure that just delaying four weeks will make things better - but we shall see.
Some idiot in the meeting said that we should mail out our season ticket brochures, and then if we have to cancel the season or amend it, we can just tell them that their money is a donation to the theatre and thanks!
And I won't repeat here what I said....which I am sure would be echoed by many of those who sent money to buy TICKETS.
-
TOD:
Banquet Frozen Meals....especially the Meatloaf and the Salisbury Steak dinners. Small, but easy for a quick lunch or dinner.
I am fixing the Aldi Lobster Mac & Cheese... which is more of a entree....today.....
-
I did not go to WalMart this morning - but I think I will tomorrow.
-
Thursday morning greetings! We are both up, showered, dressed, and have done our respective exercises (Richard walks outside, I'm continuing my physical therapy) and it's just a little after 11am.
-
Welcome Spring!
-
Welcome Spring!
Indeed. Time to play some spring songs, even if my fave, Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most, isn’t exactly chipper.
-
Favorite spring songs, folks?

Back with the cat litter, of which there was a totally normal supply at Costco.
This is a big deal for the likes of moi[/I because there's nothing even close to this value anywhere else. The brand is called Simplicity Plus, and it's $8.69 for a 44-lb. box, of which I normally buy two at a time. And that's what I bought today, even though I had the chance to, ah, "stock up", a.k.a. hoard. I stood there for a minute thinking about it, but even while it would be practical in terms of consolidating my trips out for it, I just couldn't do it.
The only other thing I bought was a 4-pack of Lysol disinfectant spray. I figure we can each keep one of those and a roll of paper towels in the car. Sadly, it's got an obnoxious perfume-y odor, but we'll deal with it this time. I hate that the buying public is so obsessed with or addicted to having SCENTS in everything.
-
In other Costco news, no toilet paper, of course, but quite a few paper towels of at least two brands, and one was Bounty. So that was good to see even though it's one (bundle) per customer. As well it should be! No idea, though, how long through the day that supply lasts.
They have a sign up at the front entrance saying what they're out of -- TP and any kind of disinfectant wipe -- and what's in limited supply. There were at least a dozen things that they're limiting one to a customer, and I don't remember what most of them are. One was the Lysol disinfectant I bought, and apparently they had gloves, which I completely forgot to look or ask for.
-
And finally in this morning's Costco roundup, gasoline was $1.89, and I was down to an eighth of a tank, so Bob was my uncle.
Usually Costco and BJ's here have the same gas price because they're less than half a mile from each other on the same road. Today, though, my Costco membership paid off because BJ's was at $1.95. That's a huge spread for the two of them.

Page 2 Dance!

I had a nap with Thatch. Annabelle is definitely feeling bad. Getting her to have some breakfast was an ordeal. When she's feeling fine, she's anxiously waiting with the other two for the plate to be set before her.
-
Last night TCB asked:
Why is it that most people only cook a corned beef dinner on St. Patty’s Day? It is the same delicious dinner, no matter when you serve it.
Totally! And I do enjoy it any time of year. I love the stuff.
For us, doing this on St. Pat's is a fun, silly, inexpensive, and very delicious tradition. Nothing more. But we like some traditions, and this is one of them. No one is under any illusion that there's even the slightest thing authentic or meaningful about it. And that's not to insult anyone of Irish descent or Catholic faith or anything else. We aren't of either persuasion...any more than any of us are Mexican on May 5th. Hell, what I love about the meal is that it's more Jewish than anything. I'm downright passionate about this particular combination of foodstuffs.
Yes, people should cook this very meal all year. With the exception of soda bread, every single thing about it is available to all, every day of the year.
-
Is it always congestion that causes this with Annabelle, or does it seem more like she has a bug?
-
ChasSmith, I’m glad Bob was your uncle.
-
Is it always congestion that causes this with Annabelle, or does it seem more like she has a bug?
She has an immune deficiency, and the vet suspects it's a herpes virus. I'm currently forcing Lysine down her to boost her immune system.

Oh I also like the Marie Callender Cheesy Bacon Pot Pie.....
-
From DR TCB:
Yes, but the Chinese government placed people in quarantine by force. We are far from that apparently effective method.
And look at those young idiots celebrating spring break on the beaches.
-
DR TCB I am sorry you are required to make multiple trips to shop a little at a time. I hope your electric chair helps keep people at a distance. Shopping carts also help somewhat with that, though you have to pass each other in the narrow isles.
I never knew home delivery meant they delivered it inside for you. That is very helpful.
-
From DR George:
My sister called me today, asking if I would trim her hair...just a blunt cut straight across to shorten it all. She doesn't have confidence in her daughter's ability to cut her hair in a straight line, so I'll be attempting it
I would love a video of this-lol
I trimmed my bangs last night. I think I will have to trust Keith to do this next time. Between my shoulder & my elbow it is impossible to reach at a good angle for cutting. He had to finish one last bit for me. I might as well let him start from the beginning.
-
The Love Salad is: "Fresh romaine and napa cabbage, topped with crunchy noodles, sliced almonds and our creamy ginger “LOVE” dressing." It's kind of large, but not too much for one. It's probably enough for two Janes, though.
I don't know, I eat a large salad as my only meal, but then it includes more veggies and protein. This sounds delicious.
-
My eye appointment has been cancelled. Now I am stranded wearing scratched lenses with an old prescription and had not ordered new contacts.
-
Continued Vibes for Annabelle and DR elmore!

I'm up, I'm up - seven-and-a-half hours of sleep.

My assessment of the two bios of Jerome Robbins that I am currently reading: Deborah Jowitt is a dance writer and she's really good in assessing the choreographer's work; Greg Lawrence's book is much more interested in Robbins' psychological issues and gossip. They are both interesting.

For my hospital reading I am taking William Mann's Tinseltown. I've had it since it was published in 2015, and I dug it out after the run of Mack & Mabel.

It's my regular book group night tonight and they're going ahead and meeting in person. I, along with a few others, indicated we would not attend, so our leader has arranged for us to call in via the technology she uses in her telecommuting. Film at 11...

DR Elmore, you hospital book looks like an interesting read!
-
DR JOHN G you have misjudged my cooking skills.

The Lobster Mac And Cheese is okay.....it is a bit dry....but it was a nice change of pace.
I don't know if I will buy it again.

It's about Mabel Normand and the murder of William Desmond Taylor.

My book group is small and I am still considering not going. We sit too close to each other. Fortunately it is in the clubhouse and not in someone's home. We don't meet until the 30th so I will ask on Monday, giving them a week to decide.

Tonight's meeting is in someone's home and will be attended by at least one person who has both flown and been in an elder care facility within the past week. It's my understanding that travelers should self-isolate for 2 weeks upon their return.

Today's experiment, thus far, is a fail, at least for me it is. We'll see if the failure turns to success in about ten minutes.

Having posting problems
-
I hope it’s not my phone.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I ran errands today. I used to think of errands as boring, but these days it's an adventure. First, to the bank. Easy. Few customers and we all kept our distance. Then across the street to Trader Joe's. I was concerned when I saw a line to get in, but there were only a couple people in front of me. Trader Joe's is only allowing a few people in the store at one time, with an employee at the door monitoring it and also squirting people with hand sanitizer. They have also imposed a limit of two of any item.
-
I was very pleased to find a few loaves of gluten-free bread. Ditto for the liquid hand soap that I like. Paper towels weren't in their usual place, so I asked an employee. "I'll show you," he said and I followed. But someone called to him and after he answered he headed over to the Customer Service desk. I thought he'd forgotten about the paper towels. No, that's where they keep them now. You have to ask for them. No toilet paper available, but I'm OK for now.
-
Of course, once I got home I thought of a couple more items I forgot to look for.
-
I then went to my favorite Mexican restaurant. They can only serve take-out and delivery, but take-out works fine with me. I think they've laid off the cook. The owners do everything themselves when business is slow. They haven't reduced their hours, but I fear for their longevity.
-
My acupuncturist called and said that she's closing the office for two weeks. She received a letter from the City limiting medical services to emergency only. I had an appointment for tomorrow. I do understand the need for distancing, but some of us have ongoing medical issues and need care. An acupuncture treatment would help me stay strong and is also an important part of my pain management program.
-
I take a lot of Chinese herbs, but as soon as the problems in Wuhan started I began stocking up. So far there's been no problem getting them. She stocks a few other herbs that are particularly well-suited to the new virus.
-
I was very surprised to learn that 80% of the drugs that Americans take are manufactured in China. I haven't heard of any drug shortages, but it certainly leaves us vulnerable.
-
Stay well, everyone.
TTFN.
-
Bruce, your Experiment #1 was frozen food. Was it packed with an insulation or cold packs?
-
Jane, I just received an email from an optical office I go to. They are encouraging their contact lens patients to reorder lenses now, because they don't know how long it'll be before they can offer appointments again. They said that if your prescription changes they'll refund you against the cost of the new lenses. I don't know if this will be standard practice or not, but it would give you a reasonable option.

I am sorry they cancelled you. Even my eye doctor said she would honor my appointment if I wanted. I had already intended to call about skipping it.

This is very hard on the restaurant and bar owners. Bryan said bars in NY are permitted to deliver drinks.

Thanks. That is my concern about ordering now. I left a message and will likely hear back from from someone in the next couple of days. My contacts can be difficult to get.
-
Experiment two is done - time-wise an epic fail but in the end it was successful. I'll explain more in the notes.
-
We had a nice video chat with the Chicago family. They are well and happy. Bryan is fairly unconcerned about the virus. He did say his hospital doesn't have tests. All he can do is send people home to self quarantine if they are suspicious. So far he hasn't had anyone who needs to be hospitalized. He doesn't have protective clothing either.
-
I found it interesting that so far their gyms have not closed and Bryan has been able to continue going. They are restricted to 50 or fewer people. Our 24 Hour Fitness had far fewer than that, and they were spread out, the last few times we went before the state shut them down. Restaurants can stay open for small events of up to 50 people.
-
We did not see Frayja smile but it has been confirmed she has two dimples :) Before she was born I imagined she would have dimples.
-
I set the alarm for 5:30 so I could be at the store for 6 am old people shopping but I fell back to sleep
-
I woke up about 6:45 threw on some jeans and ran to the store
-
There were TWO (2) small boxes of tissues in the paper aisle
-
They were probably left because the6 were way at the back of the top shelf
-
So I climbed up and got them
-
There were Two (2) three lb packages of ground beef so I took one of those
-
Annabelle is not eating this morning. I am not happy.
~~~Continued Vibes for Annabelle!!~~~
-
Well done. We purchased a couple of boxes of Kleenix last week. Today I noticed, for the first time, the shelves are empty.
-
And they were just filling the dairy cases with milk and orange juice.
I was able to grab one 1/2 gallon of orange juice and 2 half gallons of skim milk
-
four!!!!
-
Oh and a 8 count package of hotdog rolls and a 8 count package of all beef skinless hotdogs
-
Of course I am concerned about Bryan considering his job. He named a bunch of other conditions that scared him more than this. He really is calm about the whole thing. He seemed more concerned that they will let him stay home from work if he is sick.
-
There was no sugar and no apples
-
As it turned out, everyone attended book group tonight via conference call and it went very smoothly. At the end our leader Sharon directed us to our own kitchens for refreshments, so I’m having some ice cream.
-
So, now markets, in order to stop at least some of the insanity, are only letting in small groups of people at a time. At Ralph's, the line to get in on the bottom parking level was very long. And I guarantee you ever person waiting in that line has probably been there every day doing their thing.
-
After work I decided to stop by the local BJs warehouse (like Costco) it’s right up the road from my house
-
There were very few people there
-
The mass-steria is unbelievable and if people would just STOP on Facebook, calm down, and not feed this, it would be ever so much better.
-
The employee at the door pulled out a Clorox wipe and wiped the shopping cart handle when I came in
-
They had paper towels that they were limiting to 2 packages per person. There are twelve rolls in a package so I just took one
-
And I already had 4 rolls of paper at home
-
When vixdad came home he had a 8 pack of paper towels that he found in a little shop near his office
-
So we went from being well prepared to hoarders but they won’t go bad so....
-
They also had six packs of tissues at BJs so I bought one of those (there was a 2 pack limit there as well)
-
Along with the canned goods in the pantry If we do fall ill and get quarantined we’re good for about 3 weeks of food now
-
Well, I didn't make it in to work. ::) I slept later than expected, but I did get out of the house, at least.
-
Oh, and I stopped by the church because I had 8 bottles of apple juice in my car I had bought for coffee hour before we stopped gathering
-
I went to Costco and ended up getting some Kleenex (one 10-pack), some protein shakes ($5 off each, limit 2) and foil.
-
They were still out of tp!! I don't actually need any (I have almost 2 dozen individual rolls). I just keep checking to see when they might still be in stock after the morning rush.
-
I also renewed my Costco membership. I have the executive membership, and with the rebate that I got back, it only cost me $9.80 out of pocket! I share my membership with my friend David, so we both contribute to racking up those points. :D
-
When I put them away I saw that there was 10 lb bag of sugar I had bought 2 weeks ago that was never opened...and since we’re not having coffeehour again until at least May, and since I hadn’t put in my request for reimbursement yet....
-
After Costco, I stopped at Happy Teriyaki and got a Love Salad to go (you weren't here, jan!) and then came home and ate my salad.
-
-
The homeless shelter is closed until November
-
I called the Pastor to tell him they were there
-
He told me to take a bag if I could use them and he would find a home for the other bag
-
So vixdad has apples
-
The big boss at vixdads office announced everyone could work from home until further notice
We’re not set up to do that at my office although one of my bosses is currently trying to figure out a way of setting that up in case we are ordered to shelter in place
-
We are in pretty good spot at the office though , we all throughly cleane$ our own cubicles (we each have our own space with 6 foot partitions
Rather than cook pasta today, I opted for a Marie Callender's frozen dinner - the chicken fried steak. It wasn't bad - not great, but edible and VERY calorie friendly at 460.
I used to occasionally buy frozen foods from Amy's Kitchen. I kind of liked the enchilada dinner & the Mattar Paneer. I haven't purchased them in years.
-
George, I had visions of you hunkered over your salad, arms wrapped around it, saying "my precious."
-
I, too, like the Amy's Kitchen enchiladas. In the Gelson's delivery, there was an Amy's Kitchen pizza.
-
Ooh, nifty Facebook thing so that I won't have to see posts I no that will irritate me - you can "take a break" from certain folks and I have done so.
Just watched September, a Woody Allen flick I hadn't seen since it first came out. As an exercise in Ingmar Bergman devotion, it was better than I remembered, thanks to an outsized performance from Elaine Stritch.
Towards the end, the camera passes by scenes of the house, including the bar, and there is a bronze version of the penguin ice bucket that I have. Mine is stainless steel, which I prefer. But I can't remember seeing something like that that I own in a movie.
-
Now, it's the time for something funny. W.C. Fields in "It's a Gift."
-
So, even the Arthur Murray has closed to private lessons. No lesson on Sunday.
-
I have one of those penguin ice buckets. I need to dig it out from wherever it is, and use it.
-
I think mine is the shiny, chrome-like one. Hmmm. Really must dig it out.
I’ve been hearing about these Amy’s pizza for years.
Maybe it’s about time I tried one.
Or three.
Three sounds about right.
I hope tomorrow is not as crazy as today was. The meetings were more scattershot. I felt like a pinball.
TOD
I used to occasionally buy frozen foods from Amy's Kitchen. I kind of liked the enchilada dinner & the Mattar Paneer. I haven't purchased them in years.
I had an Amy's veggie pot pie just last week. It was the first I'd had in many years. And I, too, used to like their enchiladas.
Just watched September, a Woody Allen flick I hadn't seen since it first came out. As an exercise in Ingmar Bergman devotion, it was better than I remembered, thanks to an outsized performance from Elaine Stritch.
Towards the end, the camera passes by scenes of the house, including the bar, and there is a bronze version of the penguin ice bucket that I have. Mine is stainless steel, which I prefer. But I can't remember seeing something like that that I own in a movie.
Many, many years ago, when Main St in Venice, CA was still rather run-down, I saw an oak chair I liked in an antique store. It had "CB" carved in it. I asked the owner about it. He thought it might have been for C.B. deMille. I bought the chair. A couple weeks later a friend and I were in Hollywood, watching the W.C. Fields' film "The Barber Shop." Fields is sitting on the front porch of his shop when, lo and behold, he stands up and here's the perfect shot of my chair! I couldn't believe it! My chair was a movie star! (Well, more like an extra.)
As for deMille ownership, I asked my dad about it and he said it could have been, that deMille was like that.
Favorite spring songs, folks?
Tom Lehrer's Poisoning Pigeons In The Park (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNA9rQcMq00)!
:))
I think DR George's pick wins the prize.
I also renewed my Costco membership. I have the executive membership, and with the rebate that I got back, it only cost me $9.80 out of pocket! I share my membership with my friend David, so we both contribute to racking up those points. :D
How do you share a membership?
The homeless shelter is closed until November
That's terrible! Where will these people go?
I don't know if the shelters here are still open or not.
-
I now know who to call if toilet paper never hits the shelves again.
Good night.
You buy an executive membership and can share a membership at no extra cost with "an employee."
Our food pantry, which feeds more than 100 families a week, is the only thing we have open at church any more.
Thunderstorm has started. Rain and lightning whipping up.
Well, they've now issued an order that everyone in LA has to stay in their homes, save for essential needs. I've never seen anything like this in my life and never want to see it again. And as of noon today I believe the total number of cases in Los Angeles numbered 232 and the death toll is - 1.
Good night, all.
We are one of 7 churches in our township that offer a dinner, a cot for the night, breakfast and a bag lunch 1 night a week from the end of November until the end of March . The cots are all very close together.
The health dept advised that we couldn’t do this anymore as it could contribute tithe spread if the virus.
-
The soup kitchen will be serving prepackaged takeaway meals at the door
The food pantry is still going and notices have gone out to church members to alert them that if they are in temporary financial straits because of quarantine and businesses closing that they can contact Pastor for a confidential food drop off
We've been down for ninety minutes - the main off-site server went wonky and our guy had to rebuild - he's really great and got it up in time for the notes, but I won't post them for another thirty minutes.
Whew! TCB texted me, asking if I knew what was going on, and I could only assume that there was some problem.
That's really cool! On an Indiegogo campaign, I bought a ring that was used in the new sci-fi movie, "Code 8."
-
They had three available for the Indiegogo campaign, but I actually got the one used in the movie!
-
I got screen captures and you can absolutely tell that it's the one. ;D
-
I told him to tame that bad boy server - what we don't need at this time is crap like THAT.
-
The picture of the ring that they put on Indiegogo is definitely different than what the bad guy wore in the movie. I wonder what the people who got the other two rings think.
-
Guess I'll change the topic, but maybe not for another fifteen minutes, just because I feel we should get to where we would have gotten if were hadn't been down - 200 postings.
I'd never heard it described that way, I just assumed that it was that each membership gets two cards. I have one and my friend David has the other. We split the cost of the membership.
Oh. my goodness! :o I can't imagine!
It's a goal and a fine one.
-
I feel a goal is a fine thing, goal-wise.
-
I haven't heard if anything like that's being proposed for Washington, or even the Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater area.
-
I feel a goal comin' on.
One post at a time.
Meanwhile, it's been discovering other Brazilian composers that Villa-Lobos and boy are there some good ones.
-
I'm now burning a Blu-ray of War Horse.
-
It's taken me almost two whole days of putting it all together in the burning program, and now it's taking about five and a half hours to burn! :o
-
I'm now burning Nero while Rome fiddles.
-
There is only about three and a half hours of content!
-
To everything, burn, burn, burn - there is a season - burn, burn, burn
Gratuitous Post #200!!
