Well, you've read the notes, the notes were all about "And", AND now it is time for you to post until the "And" cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CHARINESS!
-
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning to everyone hope you’re gonna have a great weekend
-
BK next time you have an Italian from Jersey Mike’s I would recommend that you have them grill the meat.It makes it so much more tasty in my opinion
-
Good morning, all!
-
I didn't sleep well last night. There was a lot of tossing and turning. I do remember one dream in which Encores! was rehearsing Jubilee. The conductor was Jim Martin, with whom I started up Middletown Lyric Theatre in 1978 or so. I guess Rob Berman was busy with something else, but Joshie was in the dream.
-
I've just made my trip to the basement with some trash. I have no further plans to leave the apartment again today.
-
I'm going to listen to a lot of Ravel today while I work on my orchestration. There should be another food delivery this morning.
-
TOD
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Jerry Lewis: Scared Stiff
Bob Hope: Ghost Breakers and The Cat and the Canary
Red Skelton: The Fuller Brush Man
Steve Martin: Roxanne
-
I think it's time to make the bed and think about breakfast.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I spent yesterday evening in a just-controlled state of panic and dread because of the wide band of storms marching across the northeast and, thankfully, ultimately keeping their most violent activity to the north of us. It wasn't lost on anyone around here that May 15th was the two-year anniversary of the most violent and damaging weather many of us have known.
-
Today is gorgeous, with an expected high of around 75. And we'd better enjoy it because it drops again tomorrow and for the next several days.

I heard there were tornado warnings last night. Every time I hear of one, I wonder when/if NYC will be hit.

My first laugh of the day!
-
Saturday morning greetings! Nothing to say yet, just had to log in to see what made DR Elmore laugh.
-
CHARINESS II is one of my favorite English monarchs.
-
Congrats to DR GINNY on her new mixer.
-
I will not repeat the story about why I loved rhubarb....and then i didn't.

TOD:
Cary Grant & Irene Dunne: The Awful Truth & My Favorite Wife
Doris Day & Rock Hudson in all three of their movies together. And Doris is everything.
Joan Davis as a supporting character.....
Lucille Ball in The Fuller Brush Girl & Easy To Wed
Bob Hope in Paleface & Son of Paleface
-
So what!!!
Yes, I said it.....SO WHAT!
I watched THE VIOLENT YEARS on Epix yesterday and learned about the 50's problem of high school girls in their 30's who wear tight sweaters and bandanas and hold up gas stations.....and the police think they're a band of BOYS....
They also stalk men on lover's lane and force them to have sex while they tie up their girlfriends with their own sweaters and skirts....
And then they break into school and erase the blackboard and turn over the desks at the behest of the local communist front....before having a shoot out with the police....
And then....and then.....well.....SO WHAT! as the leading girl says before she gives birth to a daughter and then dies in prison......
It's a VIOLENT HOUR AND FIVE MINUTES......
-
Congrats to DR GINNY on her new mixer.
Thanks, DR JRand - I’m pretty excited!

I am glad all is well for now.

Yes it is turning out to be a lovely day here weather wise as well.

Today's epic is unrolling slowly. I am watching both parts of Henry IV on my computer. I found an excellent production online but it was transferred from VHS to youtube, complete with some tics of age and a certain fuzziness of image.
-
We've had a lazy day. I worked for a bit until Thatch decided he wanted to be petted and loved on top of the score I was writing. So, we went to lie down, Stella joined us, and we fell asleep listening to Ravel. I juswt got up to unpack the food carton that arrived around 9:30: roasted potatoes, brussels sprouts, grilled chicken strips, juice, milk, and bread.
-
Good afternoon!
-
Continued vibes for DR vixmom and Mom!
-
The first part is done. Three hours to go. Henry IV Part 2 after a break.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Greetings! I went to the farmer's market today. I heard they were going to insist people follow their social distancing etc rules. Well, there were a lot of people who were, but there were groups that were definitely not following them. They said no animals (I'm guessing so people won't come up and pet them and get close to people) but people had their dogs. They said stay 6 feet apart and people where gathered in the middle of the walkway with babies. Chatting with other friends with babies, no one wearing a mask. I wore a mask as did many others. All the vendors wore masks and had everything marked off where they wanted you to stand etc. I bought some leaf lettuce, heirloom tomatoes and kohlrabi and got the heck out of there.
-
Then I went to the grocery store. Not the one I usually go to, but this one has the treats the cats like, so I go there occasionally. Anyway, people were being very good. Almost everyone was wearing a mask, it wasn't crowded, but the prices! They have really raised them, especially on paper products. I needed paper towels and since they had my brand of tp and I don't have much left I got that too. When I got home I felt like I'd run the gauntlet. What used to be an enjoyable Saturday morning has turned into a lot of work
-
It's going to rain here soon. Well it looks ike it and it was supposed to be raining all day, but it's not here yet. I was going to spray paint my deck table, but I know the minute I start it will start raining. I supposed I could do it in the garage and leave the car out, but if I do that it will probably hail, so I'll just wait until tomorrow or Monday
-
Tomorrow morning a guy is coming over to fix some places the flashing is coming off around the door to my Juliette balcony. he's going to replace some shake shingles that are up there too. I really hate the shakes, but I have some left from the roof of the gazebo, so we might as well replace the bad ones. They won't match the other side of the house, but you don't see them all at once and in a couple years these will weather and they'll look fine
-
I could have him replace all of them, but I don't think it's necessary. Only the south and west side look bad
-
I want to get the rust off the rest of the patio furniture so I can paint that too. It's a nice 7 piece Martha Stewart set I bought at a rummage sale a couple years ago for $100. It's in good shape except around the top of the table and some of the chairs have rust spots. I found some Rustolium spray paint that matches so a little sanding and a little spraying and it should look like new.
-
I was just about asleep last night at 2:00 am when Boo started puking. Oh joy. I've been worried about her, but she's a real diva and knows what to do to get her way. Anyway, I got up and made sure she was ok. by 7:00 am she was in my room howling for food. I didn't get up right away so she won't do it every day, but I also didn't get back to sleep
-
So, I was stressing about the vet and stressing about Boo. This morning she was acting like she was on her last leg....so I said "Let's go get some food to eat" she jumped up and made a b-line for the kitchen where she jumped up on the counter and posed all cute-like. After she ate she pranced across the room and curled up to take a nap. She's fine
-
My new neighbor is adding on to his deck and installing a hot tub. It's on the side of the house that I can't see. I'm good with that.
-
Oh did I mention that the outdoor concerts that have been driving me crazy for the past 4 or 5 years are cancelled for the season? They are 35 blocks away, but I can hear the booming bass with my windows shut and ac on. It may not be all bad if I could hear the whole song, but no it's like a huge boom box that just booms on and on. It's terrible. Sorry for the people who liked the concerts, but glad I'll have a quieter summer.
-
Speaking of tornados, I just happen to be wearing my Joplin Strong t-shirt. May 22 will be 9 years since that one. My sister and her family live there...well my sister lived there, her family still does. Jon's friend Joe was right in the middle of the worst of it, his house was demolished while he was wrapped in a blanket in his closet trying to keep the door shut. He was very lucky to survive.
-
Hi John G. I forgot to ask you if the Rhubread or Rhubarbread was good.
-
I think I'll go try to clean up a couple places in the yard. That will make it rain for sure
-

We used to pop into the market for a few items as we needed them. Not necessarily fun but certainly not stressful. We try to shop at the stores where both the employees and shoppers are thoughtful about wearing masks.

That is a relief. I wouldn't want to see or hear them.

DR Cilla I noticed the customer at the barber shop was not wearing a mask, which means your friend the barber is not protected. Has he asked his customers to wear one?
-
Starting Henry IV Part 2. This production was staged at the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, which is where I spent many a summer night in high school. Feels good to be virtually back home.
-
Good afternoon.
-
Ginny, you will love your new Kitchen Aid. Watch some breadmaking videos on Youtube before it comes.
-
It amazes me to see an actor in this production named Monte Priddy. He has been doing Shakespeare in the Park since 1961. He was the Falstaff in the most wonderful production of Merry Wives of Windsor I have seen. He is playing Shadow here. But I knew that voice, that delivery the moment he opened his mouth.
-
Let’s move on ...
-
Three!
-
Back from picking up packages. Before I left, I noticed a package at the front door. That was from John Schak, who's cleaning up Harvey Schmidt's house and cataloging and stuff. He sent me Harvey's closer shot of the marquee of the Lido Theater that adorns the cover of Benjamin Kritzer - apparently Harvey had it hanging in his house and it's signed, so that was very sweet of John.
-
Feel better vibes for DR TCB and for BK!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Re: BK's post about the bank branch being closed.
I don't know if your bank has this. But here they are letting you deposit your cheques from home. I don't know exactly what you have to do. But apparently it is quite easy.
-
BK, that was a wonderful gift.
-
Turns out the Kentucky Shakespeare production of Henry IV, Part 2 was only being offered this weekend, so I really did luck into it. They apparently showed part 1 last weekend. That was filmed in 2018 and had the same cast. The same cast was supposed to do Henry V this summer. We'll see if it happens.
-
Off to take a break. Maybe Henry V this evening, just to finish off that chapter of the story.
-
I am happy that today I remembered a bike path very nearby that does not have a lot of traffic. I can't bike around the lake near me (bikes aren't allowed). although i still wouldn't have gone as there are people who walk around it. Most of the bike paths nearby have tons of people walking on them. So there is no way that I would feel comfortable when the path is only 5 feet wide. But I remembered that last year they made a bike path that is not scenic. But goes down one really long road (like 1 or 2 miles). The bike path is pretty wide. But there are not that many cars on the street. So i can easily go off the bike path and drive on the other side of the street if i have to. The whole way and back i only came across two groups of two people. So I am very happy about this. As just biking on nearby streets is not much exercise.
-
Nice surprise gift MR BK!

You must feel like we do finding new streets to walk around here :)

Fred Willard has died. He wrote his own chapter of today’s TOD. His cluelessness made him a riot in Best in Show and For Your Consideration among other movies.
-
Listening to the symphonies of Hubert Parry - he's a little before the time frame I like but boy is he good.
-
Fred Willard was a great guy and great friend to LA theater. He came to many of my opening nights with wife Mary, and I'm pretty sure the last time I saw him was at the Group Rep for The Man Who Came to Dinner. I know he was there for A Carol Christmas and Dial 'M' for Murder.
-
You will miss him :(
-
Cobbled together a dinner of leftover BBQ and a coleslaw that was good.

Finished one motion picture.

Oh, I don't know. i've never been really big on it because it's so much more expensive than the grocery store or other roadside stands

DR Cilla I noticed the customer at the barber shop was not wearing a mask, which means your friend the barber is not protected. Has he asked his customers to wear one?
Well if he's shaving or cutting around their ears, they probably have to take it off. He's very conscientious about it and is even going to get COVID certified this coming week
-
I've always loved Fred Willard. Sorry to see him go.

Good. Keith said when he returns for a haircut he plans to keep his mask on. We shall see if he continues with that after his first haircut, depending what that looks like.
-
I on the other hand plan to go as long as possible without a cut and doing my bangs myself.
-
Another death. Phyllis George. I met her briefly a lifetime ago when she was first lady of Kentucky, married to Gov. John Y. Brown. She was having fun that day. It was the opening of the Armand Hammer exhibit at UK. She was running around and giggling with the university president’s wife. Hammer was there with his wife, and we got a private tour of the exhibit with them. George had a good art history background and was able to keep up her end of the conversation. The Hammers were the most unassuming billionaires you could ever want to meet.
-
I have been reading, lost in WWll and much of how people felt then is what I are feeling now on a far smaller scale.

Watched an interesting movie this afternoon: THE INCIDENT (1967).
Martin Sheen's first film.
-
Well, the Barn Theatre production of Henry V is over. I usually don't mind theaters that stage shows where actors have to play multiple characters, but this one somehow crossed a line. There were only eight actors for about 25+ parts. Several actors with beards were so visually distinct that I couldn't tell if they were a follower of Falstaff, a British soldier, a French soldier, a member of the French court. The costumes, especially of the soldiers, were too close to each other. But the power of the script took over, and the last 45 minutes or so had a very sharp focus and contained that Shakespearean power.
-
On to Henry VI, parts 1, 2 and 3 -- but not for awhile.
-
Four!
-
Today is gorgeous, with an expected high of around 75. And we'd better enjoy it because it drops again tomorrow and for the next several days.

Finished with my viewing.
-
Today's epic is unrolling slowly. I am watching both parts of Henry IV on my computer. I found an excellent production online but it was transferred from VHS to youtube, complete with some tics of age and a certain fuzziness of image.
Speaking of VHS...my mom gave me a bunch of old VHS tapes of my niece when she was young. She (my mom) wants me to transfer them to DVD, which I can do...except that when I put the first tape into my VCR, nothing happened. :o It wouldn't play, it wouldn't eject, it wouldn't do anything! Fortunately, it also looks like it didn't eat the tape, so hopefully I can take it somewhere and get it removed.
-
I then tried my other VCR, but I used a blank VHS tape that I had (just in case), and the exact same thing happened! Nothing! It also wouldn't play, eject, or do anything! At least, I'm not worried about that blank tape, nor about either VCR. ::)
-
But yesterday, I borrowed the VCR that my parents have in their living room. I haven't hooked it up yet, though. I need to find another blank (or at least dispensable) VHS tape to test. :-\

Had you never watched before?

I am sure I would be confused as it has happened with actors playing fewer roles.

George, good luck transferring the tapes.

Thanks, Jane! Once I confirm that my parents' VCR works, it'll be no problem. I just hook it up to my DVD burner, set that to record, hit play on the VCR and let it go. :)

Had another drive, pulled more movies to watch over the next couple of weeks.
-
Back from picking up packages. Before I left, I noticed a package at the front door. That was from John Schak, who's cleaning up Harvey Schmidt's house and cataloging and stuff. That's great! I always wondered what happened to the original artwork of the original release to Colette Collage.
-
Proofed the second to last track and made the fixes necessary, but unfortunately he didn't do them yet, so that's still two to go. I really will insist he finish tomorrow so that's off both our plates.
-
Then the only thing left for him to do will be to assemble and mix the vocals for the two group numbers.
-

I ran the sound for a Theater Artists Olympia production of The Hound of the Baskervilles that was put together by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Three, count 'em, THREE people played ALL the parts! It was (intentionally) hysterical! :D
-
And then there was another local theater that did the one-man Hamlet.

In other words, what is this page four malarkey?

Is someone trying to gaslight me - we've been on page four for six HOURS.

Is this the Twilight Zone all of a sudden - four pages in search of five?
-
This is unseemly.

Is page five trying to trick us? Is it the stalker?

I am perplexed by page five.

Hubert Parry's fifth symphony is playing and is perplexed by page five.

Jane, BTW, Gerri Lowe wrote me a very nice thing on Facebook.

What am I, doing a monologue?

A mere twenty-nine more postings until a new thing.

I could probably just keep going until I'm there, but I must write some notes, I suppose.

Tonight, I turned to the Hallmark Channel to watch MURDE SHE WROTE. This was episode 7 from the first season.
It was filmed in Seattle.

The Hammers were the most unassuming billionaires you could ever want to meet.
So, why did you go to a Armand Hammer exhibit in England?
;D

I had never seen the whole episode so I wanted to check it out.

BK next time you have an Italian from Jersey Mike’s I would recommend that you have them grill the meat.It makes it so much more tasty in my opinion
I tried to have an Italian from Jersey Mike’s, but he was married.
That doesn't always matter, Tom. ;)
Don’t I know it! But at my age, they will use any excuse.
You gotta lassoo 'em and tie them to the back of your scooter!

Tonight, I turned to the Hallmark Channel to watch MURDE SHE WROTE. This was episode 7 from the first season.
It was filmed in Seattle.
That's pretty cool! Was it actually set in Seattle? Isn't she supposed to be in Maine?
-
In the opening scene under the credits, this obviously rich and obviously very drunk woman returns to her home while there is a robbery in progress. The unknown robber comes up behind her, she turns around and smiles when she sees him, and he then strangles her to death with the pearls she is wearing.

Yes , she was a guest lecturer at the University of Seattle.

The woman who was killed in the opening was played by an actress from Tacoma who was a big name at Tacoma Little Theatre back in the late 50’s and early 60’s. She and I were also on the Board of Director’s together back in the mid-Seventies.

Cool!

Her name is not listed under Guest Stars in the opening credits. I went to the IMDB and looked up that episode, and she is not listed in the full cast and crew section; even though an actor playing an uncredited police officer, and another uncredited actor is also listed.
-
I have no idea if there are any additional acting credits listed in the closing credits because Hallmark scrunches them up to run other stuff for the network.

That's weird. I wonder if she's in the credits at the end of the episode.

My library has season 1 on DVD. Those credits aren't scrunched up, but no one can check out anything right now.

I know that people can update IMDb listings. I've made a few corrections and additions over the years.

Now D.J. always used to tell anyone who would listen (and many others who didn’t) that she and Angela were old old friends. Now I always felt their friendship consisted of her knocking three or four other cast members out of the way so that she could grab a seat next to Angela during a lunch break.

Oh, my!
-
But maybe she and Angela were friends and she just did the part as a lark.
-
I would sure like to see the closing credits.

My late friend Nona was very good friends with Jeanne Lehman who recorded some things with John McGlinn, and Nona said that Jeanne was very good friends with Julie Andrews! Nona said that their families even went on a vacation together! I believed Nona.
-
Let’s just say that I didn’t believe D.J.
-
Jeanne Lehman also sang on Larry's Roberta!
-
It was definitely her in the opening of the episode.

Can you check your library to see if they have it? If you want Tom, I could also place a hold on a copy from my library and check for you...whenever that might be.

I just checked and Pierce County liberry doesn’t have it.
-
My library has it, but I can't place a hold. I guess they don't allow that for the time being.
-
I was able to add it to my "My Stuff" list, so it'll be there when they re-allow holds to be placed.
-
Actually, South Hill Library does have it. Every time I typed in the library, it was switching me over to the Over Drive section for e-books.
-
I can’t place a hold either.
-
Good night, George.

Makes sense. The libraries don't want a TON of holds building up, and then having to buy copies for these holds, and then the items will probably never get requested again and the library will be stuck with all those copies.
-
Good night, George.
Good night, Tom.

Jane, it's in the mother thread, I think.
