Well, you've read the notes, the notes posited that whatever will be will be, and now it is time for you to post until then whatever will be will be cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VICTORIOUS!
-
Be safe, everyone! Hopefully, there won't be any idiots who make it unsafe for everyone else!! :-\
-
Off to bed.
Have a good day, and a Very End of the Voting Season to all! :D
-
I remember seeing a snippet of "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" on an neighbor's television as a kid and being totally terrified.
-
And a wonderful memory of the anticipation of the annual television airing of "The Wizard of Oz." It was an event back then.
-
The Van Johnson "Pied Piper" is indeed available on YouTube:

-
Good morning, all!
-
I do hope with all my heart that this is the end of the Fat Orange Slug's Reign of Terror. I hope he and Malaria are packing for a fast escape to Russia with the rest of the rotten family.
-
It was quite chilly last night. Annabelle's been fighting another URI, and she slept beside me until 4:00 or so, wen she crawled under all the blankets to get warn. Stella took Thatch's usal place on my bed, and Thatch slept at my feet. It was a full house.
-
This morning I want to call my good friend Rob Berman and check on him. Then, at 11:30, I will have a Zoom interview as part of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus oral history.
-
Tonight, beginning at 6:30, after I've cleaned up dinner dishes and given the cats their night time treat, I'll settle in with CNN for the election results.
-
BK, the original broadcast of that Pied Piper was my intro to Grieg's music as well. I had a lot of "classical" music for children on Little Golden Records, but I don't remember any Grieg. The only one I remember now was Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Little Swans" from Swan Lake.
-
TOD
The Pied Piper
Cinderella (Julie Andrews)
Peter Pan (Mary Martin)
Jack and the Beanstalk (Joel Grey)
Hans Brinker (Tab Hunter)
Little Women (Jeanne Carson)
Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol
Hansel and Gretel (Barbara Cook)
Wonderful Town (Rosalind Russell)
I also remember vaguely a wonderful Alice in Wonderland, a Mikado with Groucho Marx, and several Max Liebman specials like Dearest Enemy and One Touch of Venus. I missed his Babes in Toyland (Barbara Cook), which I really wanted to see, because I was in hospital with viral pneumonia.
-
Good morning.

Just received a prescription which they don't make in the right dosage, so I had to cut 45 pills in half with a carving knife.
Splintered pills, pill halves raining down all over the kitchen. What a pain!

Your pharmacy should sell little pill cutters.

Google pill cutters or pill spliters.

I never knew about the Grieg-derived Pied Piper. I'll watch it on YouTube.
It already sounds like y'all are way ahead of me on having seen so many of these treasures.
At this moment, and with one cup of coffee in me, I recall:
The Wizard of Oz
Peter Pan
Cinderella
The Mikado (Groucho)
Amahl and the Night Visitors
I'm sure more will come to mind as other people drop more hints. All of these were in glorious black and white at our house because we didn't have a color TV till sometime in my college years.
-
That Mikado was special for me, as seeing both that and the old Kenny Baker film on TV within a relatively short time were my introduction to Gilbert and Sullivan. I believe the Groucho was only shown once, live, and I was thrilled to find it on DVD several years ago.
The Amahl that I know we saw, which I loved, was the 1964 telecast which, to my knowledge, remains unavailable on any home video format. That recording of it remains one of my favorite things.
-
DR Elmore reminds me of Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, definitely a favorite.
-
I began looking online for pill cutters last year when we had to break large ones up for Poe's thyroid prescription. As it happened, Nathan, who had once had a job as am assistant in a medical office, looked at them and said he could break them just fine by hand...and he was right. Of course, being able to do that depends on the size and makeup of the pill itself.
I did wonder how well the cutters are able to split the pill without splintering it.
-
I've loved the TV recording for years, but I still have never seen that production of Wonderful Town. It seems like I know it's available. Is that correct?

Bootlegs of it have been on several bootleg Opera DVD sites.

Last night we finished watching the BBC Diary of Anne Frank, and its devastating ending. I am still curious as to why the Van Pels' last name was changed to Van Daan, but I think Anne changed their names in the diary. The BBC version does end with the eight persons in the Secret Annex being led away by the Germans, and as each walks down the steps the picture freezes on them and a subtitle gives the information on what became of them after the arrest. It's as horrendous an ending as that in Au Revoir, Les Enfants or the girls in white dresses dancing among the graves of the World War One dead at the end of Oh, What A Lovely War!
-
Okay, I'll definitely have to see that Anne Frank.
-
I just reviewed the liner notes in the 1955 Amahl and the Night Visitors DVD, and am reminded that the 1964 version was hated by Menotti, which I suppose is the main reason it's never been released. I must learn more about that.

What a day! Already!
I decided I wanted to do my weekly shopping, but I forgot that this is also a day that other OLD PEOPLE get their Social Security $$$.
So it was traffic and crowds.....lots of folks in the driving carts blocking the aisles, lots of folks standing in the aisles texting and talking on their phones......etc etc etc.
-
Tomorrow evening we are indeed RE-recording Scene Two - the scene from hell - which we have done about eight times already.....
-
I enjoyed reading about DR GINNY's trip.....I hope she waved as she went through Indiana.
-
Yes we are in a Mercury retrograde which ends today!
-
I bought a bottle of vodka. I thought I would have some tonight while I'm watching the returns.......
The cards seem to say there is nothing for Joe to worry about....we shall see.
-
I loved SPECTACULARS on TV.
My favorites:
Peter Pan - although I never could figure out why that ugly old woman was playing Peter
Julie & Carol and Carnegie Hall
Once Upon a Mattress
Aladdin with Sal Mineo
-
Years ago there was a horse-drawn ice wagon driving down the street. The man was yelling: "Ice. Get your ice.....ice!" A lady called down for some and he ran up the steps with it.
Another man was walking by and he heard the horse say: "What a life."
The man was shocked and he turned and asked: "What did you say?"
The horse replied: "I said 'what a life.' Every day Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until dark I pull this damned heavy wagon all over town. On Saturday and Sunday he takes me to the park and I have to give rides to kids from 10 a.m. until dark. That's why I say 'What a life.'"
The man asked: "Does he know you can talk?"
And the horse said: "No. And don't you tell him either else I have to holler 'Ice!'"
-
I am excited about the new releases tonight.
-
We got our first snow overnight. Although very little. Just a bit on the lawns (less than 1 cm). Normally I would not be too happy. But starting Thursday it is supposed to be 60F for 6 days. So I am extra happy about that as I will be able to bike again.
-
Oh....and she kept complaining that she had lost her shadow.....but it was right there on the wall all during the scene....even before she pulled it out of the drawer,

I can't recal a pill ever splintering. Some pills are easy to break by hand while others need the pill cutter.

I finally fell asleep at 5:40 this morning.

GROAN! I hope this time is the last time.

We have heard that before. I won't believe it until it is a fact.

Yes, it is easier to deal with when you know warmer days are ahead.

Today it is raining and colder. The last few days have been beautiful.

TOD: Cinderella -- the one with Lesley Ann Warren
This was the version on when I was young. Some DVDs I’ve seen from before that I would include:
Aladdin
Best Foot Forward
Calamity Jane with Carol Burnett
The original Cinderella
Dearest Enemy
Kiss Me, Kate with Drake and Morison
One Touch of Venus

We’re under drought restrictions. Send that rain my way.

I am, too.

I just reviewed the liner notes in the 1995 Amahl and the Night Visitors DVD, and am reminded that the 1964 version was hated by Menotti, which I suppose is the main reason it's never been released. I must learn more about that.
I believe it's on youTube. Maybe under s Menotti Foudation channel or something like that?

That’s where I got mine. Sidney Chaplin was particularly good support for Russell, who is outstanding.

Here ya go! I met Kurt Yaghjian in 1973. He was a very nice man who is in the film Jesus Christ Superstar. His father was a Cincinnati Symphony conductor with Max Rudolf.

So many shows mentioned here were wonderful. Must watch Magoo every Christmas.
-
None of the recent live shows deserves to be on the list. Most were dreadful.

How could I forget the Mary Martin-John Raitt Annie Get Your Gun?

Onward.

Three!

My oral history session was a lot of fun. I hope it turns out well.

Tuesday afternoon greetings.
As if 2020 hadn’t already been bad enough, I learned this morning that my friend Rebecca’s husband died on Friday. He had broken the same hip twice since August 6 and undergone 2 surgeries while battling Parkinson’s and other health issues. She wasn’t in any shape to share details on the phone this morning, but I did pick up that they were at a hospital (rather than the rehab where he’d been) and that their minister was with them. He had just turned 74 on Tuesday.
RIP, James.
-
Today it is raining and colder. The last few days have been beautiful.
We’re under drought restrictions. Send that rain my way.
Sorry.
-
Oh Ginny, that is very sad news. My sympathy to your friend Rebecca and all those who loved her husband.
-
It has been many years since since my last viewing of The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
-
Thank you, DR Jane. I’m on my way to the florist to have something sent to her. Then we’re picking up groceries and coming home to wait out Election Day.
-
So sorry for your loss, Ginny.

Ah, thank you, sir! Much appreciated!
Also, to my horror, I saw that I'd typed 1995 instead of 1955 in that previous post, and I've now corrected the original for posterity. Future historians will thank me for being diligent.
-
Oh man, that is rough, DR Ginny. Very sorry to hear it. My condolences to you and your friend.

DR Jrand70, I'm just curious: Do your Social Security payments arrive on the same or on different days each month? Mine are different, ranging from the 15th to 21st, and there was a note to that effect when I first signed up to begin taking it. I can certainly see staggering the millions of recipients, but I have no idea why it would constantly vary for each individual. But there it is. I log onto the website somewhere around the end of the month to see what that month's date is going to be.
-
Thank you, DR Jane. I’m on my way to the florist to have something sent to her. Then we’re picking up groceries and coming home to wait out Election Day.
I like that you can go to the shop and choose the flowers in person. I haven't done that since we left Ashland.
-
Vodka (or the poison of one's choice) definitely sounds like the way to go tonight.
(I only ever drink it in Bloody Marys, myself. James Bond be damned, my Martinis are gin, thank you very much.)

Splintering or crumbling -- that's what my poor attempts resulted in when trying to do it (very carefully) with a knife. I'm sure the actual pill cutters work much better.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep. Up at ten and had to run to the mail place to retrieve two packages, one of which contained perishables.
-
Now I'm back and there are no two ways about it. I'm tempted to eat one of the perishables today, but that means I'd have to toss out the ground beef, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, I suppose. We shall see.
-
Is it time for another order from Katz's? Or is that too risky while watching the calories. I know *I* wouldn't have the requisite self-control. :)

Got an e-mail from someone I've had no contact with since 2006 when we did the original staged reading of the Brain. I need a favor, write me back ASAP. Of course I didn't respond but I copied the message and put it into Google and of course it's a scam. If you respond, you're asked to buy gift cards for the person. Of course, the scammer has no way of knowing that I would never get an e-mail like this consisting of one line from someone I haven't heard from in fourteen years.

Sorry to hear that news DR GINNY. Vibes!
-
DR CHAS SMITH mine comes on different days of the week, but always the same day of the month.
-
I am making some chicken and noodles......
-
Well......most of the work was already done......but I am in charge of the range.

Thank you to DRs John G, ChasSmith, KevinH, Elmore, Laura, and JRand for the expressions of sympathy. I really wish I could hug Rebecca.

DR Ginny, I'm sorry to hear of your friend Rebecca's husband's death.
You’ll remember her as Becky from when you lived here. She and I had parallel jobs at the Hamilton and Middletown campuses.
-
Thank you, DR Jennifer.
-
Condolences to Ginny.
-
Jane, yes I saw - nauseating. And let me reiterate that the ONLY violence or looting that would happen will be coming from these right-wing fringe groups that always do that - and then everyone blames the left and Antifa, like that was an organization - it's what they do and the fact that people believe it's the BLM and left is really something. But I think if the outcome is Biden, these people will slink back into their holes.
-

These Trumpers are no better than roaches. Fetch the Raid!

I succumbed, oh, yes, I succumbed to the perishables. I got four ten-inch pepperoni pizzas from a place called Regina - very well known and loved pizza place somewhere. I stuck them in the freezer, which you must do immediately if you're not going to eat them right away, but an hour later I succumbed and took one out, pre-heated the oven to 400 and put it directly on the oven rack as instructed. It actually heated up in seven minutes, and it was pretty great, I must say - very fresh, great flavor, just the right amount of pepperoni, and my new pizza cutter did a great job. I'd already looked up the calorie count of a ten-inch pepperoni and it's just under 1000. I'll see if the ground beef still okay tomorrow - it should be, really.
-
Ginny, I was so sorry to read the terrible news.
This is even more difficult not being able to gather together, but I'm sure your friend Rebecca knows the love from all of those close to her.
-
BK - I got your email. We'll be sure to watch on Sunday.
-
Ginny, I was so sorry to read the terrible news.
This is even more difficult not being able to gather together, but I'm sure your friend Rebecca knows the love from all of those close to her.
Thank you, DR Freddie. Rebecca and her husband have always been very private people, so I suspect even in “normal” times there would have been very little gathering together.
-
DR Jrand70, in view of the extra takes, just imagine if you had been cast in a Stanley Kubrick film.
I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
-
I've got my dishes and the cats' to clean up, and then I'm settling in for the duration. I'll catch you all in the morning.
-
While I was making my chicken & Noodles.....I ate three cookies, a banana, a biscuit, and an ice cream sandwich.
For some reason, now I'm not hungry.
-
I did that yesterday while making guacamole. I was starving. And then suddenly I wasn't.

Good Afternoon - I am home, the boys are still at camp so it's a quiet apartment. Finally left work today calm, cool and collected. We are on our way to getting our internet working properly. (and as I type this, the boys are home) and today it was smooth sailing. There was a Christmas morning "calm" as I wondered in and out of the classrooms making sure everyone could hear, see, etc. I'll finish some work and then settle in with the TV on and I think I can go through boxes while I watch the election results trickle in.
-

LOL of course you succumbed. I am glad it was worth it.

Good afternoon.
-
I think I will watch my Maigret movie later.
-
My son's family came over to visit. I put together a toddler basketball hoop and GS had a great time with that. Then, of course, he played around the edge of the pond. I guess I need to get a toddler leaf rake, too. The big one is hard for him to manage.
-
And he had a great time with the flopping fish.
-
And now I'll be nervous for 14 days.

There was a Christmas morning "calm" as I wondered in and out of the classrooms making sure everyone could hear, see, etc. I'll finish some work and then settle in with the TV on and I think I can go through boxes while I watch the election results trickle in.
Calm is good. I like reading about your work.

My son's family came over to visit. I put together a toddler basketball hoop and GS had a great time with that. Then, of course, he played around the edge of the pond. I guess I need to get a toddler leaf rake, too. The big one is hard for him to manage.
There is a good selection of them online.
-
And he had a great time with the flopping fish.
;D

And now I'll be nervous for 14 days.
Yup.

And now I'll be nervous for 14 days.
Welcome to the club...

Hello, everyone.
-
I had trouble winding down last night and falling asleep. Trouble falling asleep isn't news, but not winding down is unusual for me. Active Brain Syndrome, as BK likes to call it. I'll try to take a little nap in a bit. I doubt we'll have much new election news for several hours.
-
DR Ginny. I'm sorry to hear about Rebecca's husband. It sounds like he's had a lot to deal with for some time. I do think it's great, though, that you've all stayed in touch. It's not easy these days. Vibes for you and Richard, Rebecca and her family.
-
Well, I'm watching MSNBC and they have a count down on their screen...how soon the first polls will close. Right now, it's just under 35 minutes!
-
I was chatting with the gardener this morning. When he asked if I was staying safe I thought he meant from Covid. As we chatted I realized that he meant from any election violence. "Staying safe" now has a second meaning.
-
It was quite chilly last night. Annabelle's been fighting another URI, and she slept beside me until 4:00 or so, wen she crawled under all the blankets to get warn. Stella took Thatch's usal place on my bed, and Thatch slept at my feet. It was a full house.
~~Get Well Vibes for Annabelle!!~~~

Well, mirabile dictu! I seem to be out of Facebook jail!
Hoo and Ray! And just in time! ;)

RIP, James.
Oh, no. My condolences to you, to Rebecca, and her family and friends. :(
-
I took care of a few errands. No signs of any trouble here, nor did I expect any. My 'hood is too boring for anything like that.

That's almost exactly what I have. It works pretty well.

I got and e-mail almost exactly like that supposedly from a co-worker a couple of years ago. I mistakenly replied and wrote to call me and sent back my phone number. ::) Fortunately, nothing seemed to happen. There was no reply back at all.

Hi, George.
-
Here's a better copy of Pied Piper, obviously taken from a 16mm Tech print and in sync - the other one is out of sync. https://youtu.be/mVJSnwyP2Pc
This is cool! Thanks for the better version. :)

I like this:

It's sad that things have gotten this bad. :-\

I think that nap is calling me.
TTFN.

That sounds really good.

Topic of the Day: I've always enjoyed the Peanuts Christmas special, but it's not being shown on broadcast TV this year. >:(
Also:
Cinderella (with Brandy and Bernadette Peters)
Once Upon a Mattress (with Tracey Ullman)
These are the only versions of "classical" musicals that I've seen in their original broadcasts (that I can remember).
And I have enjoyed many (but not all) of the live musicals that have been shown on TV over the last several years. I know that not every has, thought. ::)
;)

Stay well vibes to you both.

I read to unwind though that can backfire depending on the book. I need a boring book tonight.

Well, I'm watching MSNBC and they have a count down on their screen...how soon the first polls will close. Right now, it's just under 35 minutes!
Different locations have different closing times. Also if you are in line before the closing time I think they have to let you vote.

Thank you, DR Jeanne. Rebecca and I have been friends for 46 years and most recently have kept in touch by texting, playing Words with Friends, and weekly video chatting. I knew over the weekend something was amiss when she didn’t respond to my texts and didn’t make a Words play. I suspect she kept quiet because she didn’t want to put a damper on my weekend. She’s like that.

I was chatting with the gardener this morning. When he asked if I was staying safe I thought he meant from Covid. As we chatted I realized that he meant from any election violence. "Staying safe" now has a second meaning.
:o Has he had issues?

Thank you, DR George.

That's almost exactly what I have. It works pretty well.
It also looks like the one I have.

True and true. They've been announcing the states that close as they close, so it's been a running total as the results come in, knowing that there will be more votes in the next several days for some states.
-
That makes more sense.
-
FB is rather quiet tonight except for people saying how stressed they are. I can relate to that.

I'm still at work, so I'm not on FB. I'll check in when I get home....eventually...maybe. ;)
-
When I walked home from lunch I found a huge t flag hanging in front of my house
-
Some idiot had tied twine from it, attached it to ball and threw it up so it wound around the telephone wires
-
Its 40 feet up with no way of getting it down
-
And it’s landed in such a way that it looks like we are responsible for it.
-
Because this is a neighborhood on a busy road and no kids to interact everyone is just on a “wave as you go by” basis.
-
I’m horrified to think that the nice black family across the street, the Pakistani family next door and the Indian family to our right might believe that we hung that flag there
-
Ginny I am so sorry to hear about Rebecca’s husband

DR Ginny - so very sorry to hear this news from your friend Rebecca.

~~~TAKE
TWO NINE VIBES~~~ FOR DR Jrand70!!!!!
-
Thanks for the Amahl link, DR elmore3003!
-
Of course, if you've seen one Christmas opera, you've seen Amahl.
-
Thanks, I'll be here all night....
-
I am going to bed, and hoping to wake tomorrow to joyous news. But I also realize it could be days.
-
I'm leaving work and heading home. I'll probably go back to MSNBC when I get there.
Until later.
Just finished Maigret Sets a Trap. Jean Gabin was perfect as the inspector. In one scene, at 10 p.m. and after beer and snacks, he gets up from behind his desk and you can see his belt is loose, but his suspenders are still holding his pants up. What a great detail.
The mystery was really gripping, too.
-
I glanced at Facebook - everyone is doing what they did four years ago - negativity rules. Not good. If everyone would stay positive positive things would happen.
Good night, all.
If it really worked that way I could stay positive. But then I have been unusually pessimistic for months.
The newest Kritzerland CDs have been ordered! :D
-
Finally, an official release release!!
-
PAGE SEVEN LOLITA, MY LOVE DANCE!!
(http://www.kritzerland.com/KR_Lolita_Cover_600.jpg)
-
BK, where did the cover art come from? It's a great painting.
-
BK, on the Kritzerland pages for both Ben Bagley's Irving Berlin Revisited (http://www.kritzerland.com/berlin_revisited.htm) and Lolita, My Love (http://www.kritzerland.com/lolita.htm), did you know that there question marks in diamonds throughout the descriptions?
At least, that what I see on my computer.
-
Yes, the program Doug uses updated and now it's doing this weird crap replacing quote marks with that - he hasn't been able to figure it out yet. Doug found the painting. And in the amusing department, Facebook rejected an ad boost and I'm pretty sure it's because of the word Lolita. I mean, it's just pathetic, really
Clallam County here in Washington State has voted for the winning Presidential candidate since back in the 80’s. Tonight, Biden is winning by 8 points!
Condolences to DR Ginny’s friend, Becky.
Trump's about to make a speech. ::)
Fingers crossed.
-
Is Trump drunk? Just because a network declares a state for one candidate, doesn’t mean that candidate wins. It Is still up to how the vote count ends up.
-
Now we have this right-wing radio jockey from Seattle agreeing with Trump, because he says all of the votes in Philadelphia are ALWAYS controlled by a political machine.
-
Exactly! Commentators on MSNBC just said that Trump said that he won and the counting should stop!
-
REALLY?? :o
-
All of these network folks are horrified by what Trump said. Gayle King says the President should be fined for his actions.
It will be a hopefully different story in the next couple of days.
-
Biden made a speech, too - did they bother covering that?
-
I ate the pizza at noon-thirty and I'm actually kind of hungry now. I do have some tortilla chips - I could eat six and not do any damage.
-
It will be a hopefully different story in the next couple of days.
Unless he gets to the Supreme Court and convinces them to stop the count.
-
Biden made a speech, too - did they bother covering that?
Yes.
Eating chips - excellent.
