Well, you've read the notes, the notes arrived, and now it is time for you to post until the arriving cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: COPIOUS!
-
Can't wait to get the physical book and the Indiegogo items!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Here's a disappointment: the lady who contacted me yesterday was looking for advice on cleaning out the music collection of her late husband, a Broadway conductor and musician, and Jonathan Tunick referred her to me because of my Drama Book Shop days. Annabelle & Thatch still slumber and remain with no agent and no sell.
-
The first round of laundry is in the washers.
-
Yesterday the temperatures got up to 87F, and by 3:00 this morning it was quite chilly in the apartment. We're back yo the low 70s today.
-
DR JohnG, did they ever figure out your pain issues?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Biopsy this morning. Then barbecue.
-
Who knows when there will be answers.
-
Sorry to have been E&T yesterday
-
Once Vixdad came home he wanted to go to IHOP for dinner
-
By time we got home I was inordinately tired and fell asleep immediately

Vibes for good test results for John

Locking out story:
I once started my car , realized the neighbor’s trash bin had been left in the middle of the road by the trash collectors
So I got out of my car to move it back to the sidewalk
My car door locked behind me
With the car running and my house keys , purse, phone etc in the car
And of course the house was locked
Fortunately my neighbor across the street still had a spare key to my house ( where I had a spare key for my car)
Unfortunately he was asleep and not best pleased when I woke him (although very understanding once I explained the situation)
-
When I first moved into this apartment. I was continually locking myself out when I left the apartment to throw garbage down the incinerator chute. Then I would go upstairs to the neighbor above me, climb out onto the fire escape, walk down to my apartment and climb in the window. I finally wised up and started leaving the door unlocked while I was home.
-
I must throw the bathroom rug into the washers, and I'm ready to face the dryers.
-
Got to the doctor’s office early. Sat in the car and finished A Guide to the Birds of East Africa. (Got the title slightly wrong yesterday.) Sweet tale.
-
I came up to the doctor’s office to discover I’m 45 minutes early for the appointment. I thought it was 8:15. It’s at 8:45.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
So, I can listen to my book, The Dictionary of Lost Words.
-
My TOD dream meal would be quite odd, because the things I love don't really go together.
Mashed potatoes with spaghetti?
-
Swan Lake. It's something about a swan. And a lake. ;D
-
Vixmom, ihop sounds particularly good right now.
-
War and Peace. It's something about war. And something about peace.
-
War and Peace. It's something about war. And something about peace.
Too true.

My dream meal varies with the direction the wind is blowing.

Don't get them mixed up.

Nevertheless, ~~~GOOD RESULTS VIBES~~~ for DR John G.!!!
-
I’m trying my new wireless earbuds today.
-
I enjoyed vixmom's locking out story very much.

Biopsy this morning. Then barbecue.
Don't get them mixed up.
I’m trying my best.

The earbuds are not canceling out background noise.

Last night we watched I Remember Mama, which I've never before seen. I remember vaguely a high school production maybe 60 years ago and Peggy Wood's TV series, and I've read both Kathryn Forbes' book Mama's Bank Account and John Van Druten's play, which was published in a Pocket Books edition titled something like "Three Comedies of American Family Life," including Life With Father and You Can't Take It With You. I must have read that book 20-30 times in the 1960s and 70s.
Irene Dunne is so damned wonderful as Mama, but I also loved Oscar Homolka as Uncle Chris and Florence Bates as a successful writer, but the whole cast is amazing. Rudy Vallee and Edgar Bergen in serious roles? Yep, and I would never have guessed who they were. The film is beautifully directed, but I think it needs a good restoration. Criterion, where are yopu?

Somewhere around the years 1990-1992 I managed to lock myself out of my car not once, but twice within a relatively short span of time.
The first time, I was on a country drive during one of my first New England fall season explorations. I had stopped at a roadside store that sold apple cider and all manner of country-ish things, browsed a bit, used the restroom, bought a gallon of cider, and walked back over to my car, at which time I found my keys weren't in my pocket. The car was locked, with the keys inside. Nowadays I'd call the AAA, but maybe I wasn't a member right then, I dunno, but I actually called the local police and asked for help. They were totally obliging and had the door opened in no time using the hook tool in the window.
A few months later I was parked in a large lot in downtown Danbury. A street festival or something was going on, so there were cops all around and I again made my plea for assistance. They were initially unwilling to help, saying they're no longer allowed to do that -- not only for insurance reasons but because there have been instances of the person getting zapped with some voltage if the tool grabs the wrong thing. I told them the police in a neighboring area had done it that other time, and they were surprised to hear that but they said they'd be willing to let me use the thingy and do it myself with them there. So I did it, my one time to have done such a thing, and thank goodness it worked.
Don't ask me where my concentration was that year, that this could have happened to me twice within a few months, but apparently I learned my lesson and have thereafter been keenly aware of where my keys are at all times.

Interesting! Those two plays were such staples when we were kids, and I had much the same experiences with the material. I'd forgotten about the TV series, and would enjoy seeing a couple of episodes.

Well, that was certainly unpleasant. But it’s done. Results next week.

Results vibes for DR JOHN G.

Well yesterday I was getting ready to leave for rehearsal when I got a message on my phone that my sister Molly had been taken to the ER by ambulance.
I messaged the director and said I wouldn't be at rehearsal and my sister Paula picked me up and we drove to the hospital.
At first the doctors thought it was a "cardiac event" but hours later confirmed that it was dehydration and anxiety. She was released at 9:30 p.m. and is resting today.
But it was scary for a little while.
-
So that was my Wednesday night. When I got home, I turned on TCM so that I could let a nice movie make me feel better.
Unfortunately, they were showing JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG which did NOT make me feel better.
-
I have locked myself out of my car a couple of times over the years.....but I don't think I've ever locked myself out of my house.
I heard however about a blonde lady who telephone the police and asked them to come and help her because her keys were locked in her car. They said they would. She called them back and told them to hurry because it looked like rain and the car top was down.
-
HAH!
Sorry to hear about your sister, DR Jrand70, but very glad to hear it was a "non-event".
-
Thanks DR CHAS SMITH.....indeed, me, too.
-
Very excited about the books and the treats!
-
I will be receiving my book because of MR BK's excellent memory.
-
I have never locked myself out of my house, which is a good thing because with my current locks it would be all too easy to do.
When I changed the doorknobs and locks back in 1999 or so following a (fortunately very minor) burglary, the replacements had the kind of deadbolts that lock with a key on the inside, as opposed to a knob thingy you would turn. Those are good security as far as would-be breaker-inners go, because when you leave the house you take the key out and there's nothing there for them to turn if they bust through a window in, or next to, the door. BUT you have to leave the key in it when you're home, or, if locked, you'd be fumbling for the key whenever, say, the house is on fire. But there's another BUT. If you're in the habit of locking the doorknob itself, you don't dare push that button and then walk outside without your keys because even if the deadbolt is unlocked, you can't get back in.
That was a change from what I'd had previously. I forget now, but those knobs would unlock when you turned the knob from the inside, so there was a good chance that you wouldn't step outside with it locked. I think. I just know we're always aware of not using the doorknob locks due to that risk, since those are extremely low security anyway. It's the deadbolt that keeps you secure.

DR TCB - our theatre usually seats 198 folks, with space for a few extras on the House Left side which are usually sold to folks without reservations on SOLD OUT nights....half price limited view.
Our new configuration has 80 seats.....total.....social distancing. So even with adding three performances our total capacity is 800 per show when we usually sell almost twice that.
-
Wow. I haven't heard yet what our seating arrangement will be for The Fantasticks in September.
It's only a 110-seat house.
-
So that was my Wednesday night. When I got home, I turned on TCM so that I could let a nice movie make me feel better.

LOL! I'm sorry, DR Jrand70, but life has such a cruel sense of humor. I hope your sister is feeling better today.

DR George, at Costco did people need to show proof of having been vaccinated?
-
DR GINNY:
When in Cincinnati the timing is rarely right for me to stop and bring home treats from Graeter's, but I happened to mention it to someone last week and I was stunned - stunned, I tell you - to learn that they have discontinued their uniquely wonderful to-die-for Cheese Crowns pastry - not even recently, but a few years back. Sure enough, there was no mention of them on their website, but I also found surprisingly few comments about this development on the web.
This loss is a major historical event, in my book.
Were you aware of this tragedy? Maybe you posted about it at some point and I somehow glossed over it, or I had a lobotomy and forgot. Seriously, how is life in SW Ohio to go on without Graeter's Cheese Crowns?
-
I thought this day was going to be easy!
-
From DR TCB:
As of today, Freddie’s no longer requires masks, but I will keep wearing mine.
Darn.
-
I have a haircut appointment tomorrow and my reminded included a reminder that the salon till requires masks.
-
I thought this day was going to be easy!
There's no rest for the wicked, DR Elmore.
-
There is some confusion about this bone scan I need. I checked with the Radiation Dept of Lenox Hill Hospital that I was having the correct scan tomorrow morning, which was for a bone density scan. However, my referral is for a bone full body scan. So . . . I canceled tomorrow's bone density scanm and I am now getting a 4-hour bone body scan on June 4 at 9:00am. I feel as though I have been on the phone for eons over this megillah.

DR George at one time Bryan watched a lot of Japanese anime. I wonder if he watched the original Star Blazers series.

Oh, very scary indeed. Thank goodness she is ok, however, I hope she understands what caused the dehydration and won't let that happen again.

Funny, I thought you meant you were going to a barbecue this evening vs an after biopsy treat. I hope you were not uncomfortable during the biopsy.
-
DR Jrand70 - so very glad that your DS Molly is OK.
-
DR elmore3003 - a four-hour scan??? Do you have to bring snacks?
-
This is silly, but it made me giggle.
At least you can say that she stuck the landing.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
In the prior house, I cannot tell you how many times I locked myself out, but I'd taken the precaution of having a hidden key in the garage, so it was never a real problem.

Cat? Or loaf of bread?

I never saw the musical although I have heard the CD. It's my opinion from the CD that there is too much lost in the telling. It's a play full of incidents. Did you know that Rodgers & Hammerstein produced the original Broadway production of I Remember Mama or that the playwright John Van Druten directed the original production of The King & I?
-
If you cast a production of Follies from the cast of Golden Girls: (here they come, those beautiful girls!)

Good afternoon!

I love "I Remember Mama" film. Saw it again about 2 weeks ago.

Never locked myself out, but thought I did. I returned from a trip to London and thought my keys were in the larger of 2 carry-on bags, which was put on the next day's flight. Before we left London airline employees told us that would happen and I put my keys in my smaller carry-on. Well, when I arrived in Baltimore (about 40 or so miles from my place) I had forgotten what I had done. I asked my friend who had picked me up at the airport if I could stay over night. I also needed a ride back to the airport the next day. He agreed. Went back to the airport the next day. Checked my bag ---no keys. Then I remembered what had happened. I think my friend took the news surprisingly well.
-
Oh, I should have made about 3 posts out of that!
-
George. I apologize that last night I told you that Kroeger Foods (Fred Meyers, QFC) stopped the requirement for wearing masks. This is true, except in Washington State!
-
DR George, at Costco did people need to show proof of having been vaccinated?
I didn't notice anything saying that proof was needed. :-\
the gym doesn't require proof either. At least half of the people there were not wearing masks today.
I was surprised that every other treadmill is not marked off not to use anymore. Keith said the cross trainers still had every other one marked not to use.

Back from storage and have ordered a Cobb salad to eat prior to my three-thirty meeting, as the Zoom callbacks are soon thereafter.

I am currently reading Featherhood: A Memoir of Two Fathers and a Magpie by Charlie Gilmour. I think all you bird lovers here would appreciate it.

Thanks for that book recommendation, DR Jane. It looks great!

I think DR TCB and DR elmore3003 need to add a few more kitties to their collection so that they can re-create this tableau:
-
I am going to go try to ride a stationary recumbent bike. Pray for Rosemary's baby!
-
Well, that was a short-lived experiment.
I couldn't figure out how to work the controls! I couldn't get the resistance level up to a reasonable amount, so the whole thing was pointless.
I'll research the model online to see what I can find about how to work the darned thing.
-

Were you peddling while you pressed on the plus button? It has been awhile since I have used a recumbent bike, however, I recall nothing changed if I wasn't peddling.

DR Singdaw which bike did you get?
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Vibes to DS Molly and relief vibes to Jrand.
-
I locked myself out of my house a few times in college, then said to myself, "This must end."
I then made a point of always putting my keys in the same place and being mindful when I left the house. That solved it.

John G, you mentioned that the characters from BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES seem like old friends. Yes, for me, too. In fact, there's something about that show that I find comforting. The plots are OK, but not great. Something, however, resonates for me.
If you're able to watch ONE LANE BRIDGE you'll see an actor from BROKENWOOD. You'll have to let me know if you like the series.

TOD:
So many of my favorite restaurants have closed permanently! If they were still open, I'd choose...

TTFN.

I didn't buy a bike, DR Jane. Heavens. I don't have that kind of spare cash. No, it's one of the pieces of equipment owned by our building.

I wondered. Try changing the tension while peddling. If that doesn't work, and there isn't anyone to ask how it works, take a photo. Maybe I will recognize the design.
Oh, I see you were peddling. Maybe it is broken ;)

We had arrived in Florida that afternoon only to discover that the apartment was in no condition to be inhabited
-
The kitchen was beyond filthy with crud burned into the stove and the refrigerator hosting several science experiments, and the carpet....let’s not even discuss the carpet
-
The powers that be had decreed however that the new tenants deserved a new brand new toilet
-
We would have welcomed that decision if only it had been installed instead of sitting in the middle of the bedroom
-
It was Friday afternoon, July 1st and the workmen had gone home early fir the holiday weekend
-
The secretary said we’d just have to come back on Tuesday
-
I explained that wasn’t an option and we’d be setting up shop in her office until the manager appeared
-
Which she finally did about an hour later
-
She and I walked over to the apartment while I mentioned how disappointed I was after three days of driving a truck down there with my only child
-
And how in 30 years of being in real estate law I had never seen such an unacceptable situation
-
She made some phone calls and the workmen and two cleaning ladies showed up and we were asked to give them three hours
-
(Just to set the stage)
-
As we waited for the crew to show up we were joined by 4 of Vixter and (then) Vixboyfriend’s friends all set to unload the truck
-
They looked at the 16 foot truck and congratulated Vixboyfriend on driving that from New York
-
Oh Vixters mom drive it down, I drove Vixters car
-
Looks of respect
-
He explained the situation with the apartment and my role in correcting the situation
-

;D I love it :)
-

Super cool Mom.
-
Looks of respect
You deserve it.
-
Murmurs of appreciation
-
I offered to take everyone to dinner while we waited
-
Thank goodness Craig's place in Pittsburg wasn't that bad as I had to leave the next day.
-
Very pleased murmurs of appreciation
-
Around this time one of the guys decided to grab something out of his trunk, so he opened the trunk rummaged around and got whatever it was and slammed the lid
-
With the keys inside
-
Auugh ir words to that effect were shouted
-
No worries said I , I’ll call triple A
-
That won’t work, it’s not your car and we’re not in NY
-
Ah, says I , I have the GOLD CARD
-
As luck would have it, the AAA locksmith guy was only 5 minutes away
-
That night I was voted “coolest mom ever” a title I wear with pride

Great story DR Vixmom :) :) :)

Great story DR Vixmom :) :) :)
Agreed!! :D

I am currently reading Featherhood: A Memoir of Two Fathers and a Magpie by Charlie Gilmour. I think all you bird lovers here would appreciate it.
I did enjoy that.
-
Great story, Vixmom.
-
I got another stack of movies today from the library that I'm looking forward to watching: Judas and the Black Messiah, Merrily We Go to Hell and Nomadland.
-
Had dinner with friends tonight. We planned our trip to Rockport in 16+ days. Can hardly wait to get out of town.
-
Enjoyed your story, DR vixmom.
-
And there's no question that you are The Coolest Mom.
-
Here are my friend's cats, Percy (the black and white) and Charlie (the orange and white).
-
We watched Episode 1 of One Lane Bridge tonight. Thanks, DR Jeanne! I think we're really going to enjoy this one.
(warning: it's pretty dark!)
-
Good night, friends.
-
Here are my friend's cats, Percy (the black and white) and Charlie (the orange and white).
I want to play with them.

Gratuitous post No. 200!
-
Don't get to write that often.
-
Started watching a Humphrey Bogart movie called Black Legion, about a Klan-type group trying to save America from the "ferriners." It's a little too topical. I may have to watch the last half tomorrow.
-
Zoom call back is done and now to watch more Swan Lake.
-
Zoom call back is done and now to watch more Swan Lake.
It's about a swan.
And a lake.
I seem to have read that somewhere.
-
Well, I am now leaving work and heading to Fred Meyer to actually do some shopping, not just to see if (or how many) people are wearing masks.
I'll report back later!
-
I finally got to register for Roundabout's Harvey. I'll watch it this weekend, I hope.
-
Jolly good story, DR vixmom. Jolly good.
I'll bet she's got a million of 'em!
-
That night I was voted “coolest mom ever” a title I wear with pride
That was a great story and I have no doubt you are the coolest mom. But I was expecting you to pick the lock and let the guy into his car that way.
-
Good night, all.

Glad you're enjoying it. Yes, it's dark, but mostly I think of it as quirky because of the Maori folklore. The actor who plays Det Ariki Davis is excellent, as is the whole production. You're watching it on Acorn?
-
Good night.
-
Page eight! That's what I'M talkin' about.
-
Finished with both the swans and the lake.
-
Now playing: Previn doing Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, which I'm not sure if I've ever heard.

I’m not that cool...
-
Note to self...learn to pick locks
-
Wow. I haven't heard yet what our seating arrangement will be for The Fantasticks in September.
It's only a 110-seat house.
That is probably the same number of seats that were at the Sullivan Street Theatre.
-
I think DR TCB and DR elmore3003 need to add a few more kitties to their collection so that they can re-create this tableau:
But I have two cats, which is two more than I have steps in my condo.

Was tonight the Tony Awards?

According to the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/74th_Tony_Awards), no:
