Well, you've read the notes, the notes were up and rainy and posted on a Thursday, and now it is time for you to post until the rainy day cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ASTUTE!
-
What do you know? Today's new day of posts has opened up, but yesterday's day of posts isn't closed!
;D
-
Well, I must be off. I have no real plans for today, just to stay home for work again...4th day in a row!
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I almost typed "Good night, friends."
-
But that would be silly.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Annabelle is not eating this morning. Thankfully, Thatch and Stella will eat anything.
-
I had a very strange dream that I was on the crew of a ship in another century and a woman was giving birth. In another dream I was with a British family in the early 20th century.
-
I have a grocery delivery between 11 and 1:00.
-
DR Laura, great news about the ceiling and paint job. Perhaps you should have served soup bowls and split pea soup to the crew months ago?
-
DR vixmom, stay safe!
-
Good morning, all.

Good morning, all.
-
I had one of my own strange dreams, just on two familiar themes. Intense ones, though. But mine are never as exotically world- and time-traveling as DR Elmore's.

Fantastic. Are these, then, the replacements for the original cast?
Something I've always wondered -- when these casts did their numbers on TV, is the house band playing, or were pre-recorded tracks used? I think the typical TV band would have had to be sweetened with additional players in many cases, right? And if it was tracks, were they only instrumental or did they include the vocals to be lip-synced?

It's New Year's Eve Eve, Eve.

Fascinating question, DR ChasSmith. I would love to know the answers, too.

It's New Year's Eve Eve, Eve.
There must be a way to throw a Yves in there, too.
-
I've been listening to The Streets of New York and last night I paid my five buck$ to Concord and downloaded a two-week perusal of the score. It looks like great fun for the two pianists, but it is VERY busy and there is LOTS of music in this thing. And the vocal music requires good ... you know ... singers. Oh my. The two-piano and vocal book is 310 pages long, and I am here to tell you it is full of notes.
Piano I doubles on celeste and Piano II doubles on accordion. It would be nice if my choice for the second pianist happens to play accordion, but all of this can be done on keyboards if the patches are of good quality. This will be performed in the same space as our I Do! I Do!, so it's absolutely two keyboards, not pianos. And even if we had the space for it, no one around here has a real celesta except the symphony orchestras, to my knowledge.

Under the eaves, of course.

Good morning.

I could have, except I couldn't get a crew to get out here!
The Roofer got the leftover Halloween candy when he was here.

The comments tell you the dancers. Miss De La Hoya is Julia Stites. She’s good but the dance fit Donna McKechnie’s body better. I think the heft of the singing was always left to the women on the desks.

I believe you can leave the eves to Yves under the eaves.
-
I loved the clip. The black girl on the right didn't really seem to be singing all the words.....but maybe she just got BIG teefs.
-
Important envelope vibes for MR BK.
Good news from DR LAURA.
-
DR CHAS SMITH I sent your paper back unsigned.
-
Page Two.
-
I shall have to contemplate the TOD.

Baayork was one of the originals, but the other two replace Margo Sappington and Donna McKechnie. Watchoing it I realized some of the harmonies are probably coming from the four girls in the orchestra pit.

Happy National Bacon Day!
-
The general chores are over, thank God, but today's leg pains and walking are really tough to deal with.

Then there’s this version from Camp.

Vibes for DR ELMORE!

Of course now I want to listen to my Re-mixed OBC from Kritzerland!

I've been thinking about this and here are my thoughts:
1. The Ed Sullivan Show often had dancer and opera stars so maybe they had a standard Broadway-sized orchestra that they augmented when needed.
2. Many of the players might also be playing Broadway shows since Ed Sullivan was on Sunday night when theatres were dark.
-
I just finished reading my 130th book for the year. I prefer to compare how many pages I read a year to the number of books since book sizes vary. I have read 46715 pages.
-
Vibes DR Vixmom stays well.
-
Vixmom, when you say they were all vaccinated does that include boosters? I hope they all have mild cases.
-
Waiting for an oil change. The place is slammed this morning.
-
Sitting outside in the sun feels good. And I hope my mask keeps a few allergens away.
-
To my surprise I haven't found my mask to be very helpful with allergens.

TOD:
Maybe I’m too boring, but I don’t remember any weird NYE’s. I may be out, I may stay home. The ball drops. I go to bed.
Sigh.
-
Keith had a phone call this morning and then said he had good news, NOT ;D
-
The window people are returning today to repair the last three windows.
-
We rushed to get ready, bundled up, and I quickly ate breakfast. Now they say they won't be here for a couple of hours as they are working in another building first. I am over dressed and sick from eating to fast ::)
-
Not to mention whiplash from being jerked around so much.
-
;D
-
Keith tried to talk them into returning on a warmer day :)
-
Keith has gone to the gym. We decided one of us should stay home in case they arrive early. I hope they do but doubt it.
-
If it isn't icy out I will walk once he returns home.
-
I don't recall ever having a weird New Year's Eve.
-
I have had uneventful or boring evenings.
-
I have had fun times with family and friends.
-
I have had a few spectacular evenings.
-
This year I will be ok if it is only uneventful & boring.

Three!

TOD
I don't know that there was any NYE I'd call weird, but I've had several uniquely memorable ones.
In 1979 I was visiting my California friends on their 52-foot sailboat in Cabo San Lucas during the Christmas/New Year's week, and during the following year's holidays I had just joined the crew of that very boat while it was in Cozumel. (I spent about six months on it.)
For two consecutive years in the early-mid 1990s I spent NYE in a tux on the east mezzanine in Grand Central Terminal where friends who ran a New York BBS were demonstrating early internet communications and functions at a bank of computers. Guests mostly consisted of those attending the grand ball on the main floor.
-
So many recipes on the Internet filling my timeline! The most recent ones to catch my eye were a savory galette with roasted beets and sweet potatoes, and a mozzarella-stuffed rosemary pretzel.
-
Wow, what an amazing experience it must have been to live on a sailboat.
-
Keith is ready to tell the window guys not to come today. After I skipped the gym, I said at least let them do one window. They won't be able to return until February.
-
Amazon Fresh has arrived along with cat food from Chewy.com. Everyone is happy.
-
We never did New Year's Eve when I was a kid.
My DH doesn't do New Year's Eve.
So other than sending the kids out with pots and spoons to the edge of our property to make noise near the mean neighbor's window, we have really never done anything.
The year we turned to 2000, my sister and I took my son to the party in Tempe to hear a local band play. He was mortified to be seen with us but glad to get to go. My sister and I thought it was noisy, cold, and crowded and couldn't wait to go home.
-
Well, that's not quite all true.
Our church did a Soup Tasting Party on New Year's Eve. So we'd gather and eat soup until around 9 p.m. It go to where no one would drive at night, so now we do it the Sunday after New Year's, when we take the Christmas decorations down from the sanctuary.
-
I expect that Wae-Ling will go to my daughter's house tomorrow and spend New Year's Eve there.
I plan on spending New Year's Day baking a couple dozen bread bowls and making soup for Sunday.
I will make a Cherpumple for Sunday, also. I'll bake the pie/cakes here and take them to the church to be assembled on Sunday morning.
A Cherpumple, once assembled, cannot be moved.
-
That should be the title of somebody's next novel.

Will Wae-Ling spend the night? I think it is great they are so close.
-
I sent the people home from work that I could.
-
I did next to nothing and am too exhausted to move.
-
I managed to make it to the library. Got the new Bond. It’ll kill time.
-
It is a very dark and stormy day here in Johnston SC.
When I went to the post office, I considered continuing on to Aiken and Sam's Club but decided I wasn't in the mood. That was about 10:45 a.m.
At 1 p.m., I decided I had to go to Sam's Club. That was it. I HAD to go. There were salads there I wanted to munch on over the weekend. And there was ice cream, and a wonderful Fried Pickle and Garlic Dip, and other delights I had not originally considered. Truth: I wanted four things.
I left with 17 items.
Ah, well.
-
It is just now 4 p.m. and it looks like dusk.
-
Rain is steadily falling, as well.
-
But...I am warm and dry inside my house. Mine, all mine.
And I am prepping some French onion soup for a late-afternoon/early-evening meal.
Retirement is so challenging.
-
I did next to nothing and am too exhausted to move.
Have been there and fully commiserate.

One of the painters is singing from O Fortuna.
Better than O Superman.
-
And I stayed home for nothing today. They stopped by a little after one and said it was too late. It was nice of them to stop and tell us, still.....
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine and a half hours of sleep - didn't intend to sleep quite this long.
-
Fun stuff.

Up from a nap
-
This seems to be the longest week of my life!
-
Normally, the time between Xmas and New Years flys by, but not this year.
-
I need a nap.
-
Laters.
-
A Cherpumple, once assembled, cannot be moved.
So it is written, so it shall be done.
Or, NOT done, in this case.

4!

Sorry I missed DR TCB.

Definitely!
-
Gratuitous Post #100!!
-
I have had fun times with family and friends.
I've had more than a few.
-
I have had a few spectacular evenings.
The one time I went to NYC we saw Stomp on New Year's Eve and the performance ended at midnight. That was fun!

You have far more activities to do. I basically go to the gym and/or go for walks ;)

Just found out when I called to place a takeout order at our favorite local jernt that they are closed due to a pipe exploding.
-
On to plan B.
-
And now it is already time to mosey on over to Barone's for an early dinner.

Just got lost in the YouTube land of that song. Saw three new-to-me versions, including one on HainesHisWay's YouTube Channel from the Burt Bacharach concert.
-
Just now.
-
The colors were actually a little richer.
-
Watching a movie called A Life at Stake with Angela Lansbury as a very naughty woman. Keith Andes, who starred opposite Lucy in Wildcat, is the guy who gets sucked in by her charms. Can murder be far behind?

Very nice picture, John!
It is. Knowing how the camera doesn't always stay true to the colors, I can imagine how it looked in person.
-
George, how far is Fort Lewis from you?
Are you planning to visit? If you do come back to the PNW please remember we also live here. Had we know you were going to Seattle we would have made plans to see you. Granted, the weather likely would have changed our plans. It was raining super hard.
-
A friend’s son and his family are moving there.
-
Five!
-
I don’t know about too many trips yet for next year. One in the early planning is a drive from here to Wyoming.
-
That would be a beautiful trip.
-
Would you go to the Grand Tetons?
-
I just read about two thieves in our county who have been breaking into convenience stores. They have been breaking the glass windows.
-
Their forth break-in was two nights ago, after it snowed. When the cops showed up they found only two sets of footprints and followed them right to the thieves ;D
-
One still had broken glass all over him. Their backpacks were filled with stolen goods.
-
Moral of the story: Don't leave a trail.
-
Would you go to the Grand Tetons?
No immediate plans.
-
Question for DR George:
Did you note my post yesterday about my barber having moved here two years ago...FROM TUMWATER?

It's about 20 miles north of me.

What Jane said. ;)
-
My ceiling is painted.
I may do a second coat. Maybe not. We'll see what it looks like in the daylight.
-
Good news, Laura.
Any more Orff?
-
What paint did you use?
-
Starting to watch Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Not sure if I like it.
-
'night
-
Back from a great meal at Barone's - the usual carbonara and three pieces of garlic bread - no salad. Robert had angel hair pasta primavera with chicken and LOVED it.
-
I gave him his birthday and Christmas gifts: My original worksheet for my song C.C. Brown's, which he introduced in LA Now and Then. A Xerox of Children Will Listen's first page with hand corrections in red by my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim - those, of course, are in his hand and NOT part of the Xerox - one-of-a-kind from a chart they sent me that I think they didn't mean to.
-
Also, a copy of Patrick Bronstein Presents, which I know he'll like, and a Blu and Ray of The First Nudie Musical.
-
Cats have superpowers.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Happy belated birthday, Robert. Those sound like nice presents.
-
Out of a hot bath, which was very relaxing.
-
I started to read a book I got for Christmas called The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell. It's engrossing and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny.
-
And it's a welcome change of pace from all those horrible classes I took earlier today.
-
Six!
-
Question for DR George:

You missed his response late last night (11:38:58 PM).
So I did. So very sorry, DR George.
-
Finishing off Perfume. Can't say I liked it or hated it. I think the ending is rather ridiculous.
-
That's enough for me. Good night, all.
-
Nighty night!
-
It is past midnight in South Carolina, so today is Friday, December 31st.
Oh, my!
New Year's Eve.
-

New Year's Eve.
Happy New Year's Eve to you and the rest of the east coast! ;D
-
George, how far is Fort Lewis from you?
About 5 miles from me.
-
Why I oughta...
-
Listening to music and notes are written.
-
New releases should announce at midnight, although I haven't seen the test pages yet.
-
But I was told we were shooting for midnight. They'll certainly be up for ordering by morning at the latest, but I am hoping for tonight.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
And then I wrote...
-
New releases should announce at midnight, although I haven't seen the test pages yet.
Can't wait to find out what they are!
-
Hi, George.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
I am used to being on my own. Going where I want when I want.
-
This is Hell.
-
This is Hell.
I can only imagine!
