Well, you've read the notes, the notes had two big reveals, and now it is time for you to post until the revealing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PROLIFIC!
-
Notes ameliorated. Reinstated.
-
Thanks for the big reveals. Book sounds like a winner, and healthwise, you got a way forward now that some of the answers are coming into focus. Rooting for our hero BK, big time.

Tonight, I'm ushering for Rent. It's a good production, and I want to chat with a friend who's in the show. I got to see her last week, but we didn't get a chance to chat afterward. Her husband played The Baker in the Into the Woods that I stage managed.

Same here.
So good that you have a diagnosis, and that there's a sensible treatment.

Good morning, all!
-
It was a dark and stormy niight. We had rain, and the cats and I hunkered down to watch the TV and rejoice that we were not all wet. Just after 9:00, I got an important phone call from the person I want to assist me if this McGlinn recording situation works out. That took about 10 minutes, and I went to bed. Three houres later I was still awake, so I took a tizanidine and slept solidly until the 5:30 alarm rang. I went back to bed with Annabelle and Thatch and slept until 6:30.
-
The book looks womderful. I'll order it as soon as some spare money rolls in.
-
I think this is the day that Ann and Jen return from vacation. I've missed them.
-
I saw Cleo Laine and John Dankworth live at Miami University around 1977. The place was packed, and the concert remains the second best concert I've ever seen. Bette Midler's 1973 tour still holds the crown, but both she and Laine - in their individual ways - grabbed the audience and never let go.
-
The worst? Sadly, Judy Collins, whom I love and still adore. The band was great, she was in good voice, but it had low energy. When she finished the set, she walked off and never came back for an encore. When I read her biography, I learned about her personal issues at the time - divorce, custody battles, personal issues, one date where she had a panic attack before the concert and went immediately back to the airport - and it must have been a bad night for her.
-
Good morning, all.

Health vibes of all sorts for BK.

Saturday morning greetings! We’re still under the “heat dome” here in SW Ohio.
-
BK, you’ve had quite a roller coaster few days since I last checked in here.
Condolences to you and your family and all who love Joel.
Vibes of strength for your health journey.
Congratulations on the new book!

The Camelot Repor
A few good things. But the rest got to me and it became a chore to get through.
This was the Small Cast Version, which happens to be the only version (??) listed at MTI:
Lerner and Loewe's Camelot – Small Cast Version has been adjusted to suit a smaller ensemble, making the delightful classic more accessible to theaters and schools without a large pool of actors. The definitive score and memorable characters are all there but with a libretto and orchestration adapted for a more intimate production.
The director told me the script encourages you to do pretty much whatever works in your space. They had one "set" (actually, a "design"), one set of costumes*, scene settings were announced by one or more members of the ensemble, and seven musicians (the ones scored for in this adaptation). But, though the director and actors were mostly good people, enough of it was sufficiently below par (for my taste) that it even permeated my dreams, adding to an already rocky night.
*I take that back. Guenevere changed for Act 2.
I'm not up on the various changes over the years, but no "magic" characters or scenes (no "Follow Me", etc.). "You May Take Me to the Fair" and "Fie on Goodness" are in. Dances were cut down to practically nothing - which I took to be a local decision, but who knows. Best, or most interesting, thing for me was "The Jousts" which was surprisingly well executed and well sung.

TOD - the results of my echocardiogram showed up in myChart on Thursday and didn’t prompt a phone call summoning me into the doctor’s office. I like to think that’s a good thing, but I also think it may mean further testing. I’m no MD, but my reading of the report suggest to me that there may be a valve issue.

Saturday morning greetings! We’re still under the “heat dome” here in SW Ohio.
I am sick of it here, DR Ginny.
My decision to see Camelot instead of going to the opening of my friends' The Little Mermaid last night was based entirely on the latter being outdoors where I just sweated through three weeks of Evita.
-
Best health vibes to you, too, DR Ginny!

It's been a busy morning: I had kitty cleanup, trip to the basement and mailboxes, made Italian sausage with peppers and onion, spoke to Doug about the orchestra suites for the ballet Star on the Rise, and dg through the computer's hard drive in search of a missing track from the 2001 McGlinn recording of Leave it to Jane, which I luckily found.
-
Now I can work on the last Phantom cue, the Love Theme.

That all sounds great - not least of which, the Italian sausage with peppers and onions!

BRUCE, MEGA VIBES THE MEDICATION HELPS YOUR EYES!
-
DR Kevin, I'm sorry you didn't get Wordle yesterday.
-
Bruce, your new book looks wonderful. I expect writing it had many bittersweet moment. I will get it on my tablet once you have the eBook, however, it is doubtful I will be able to read it until September. With luck sooner.
-
From Bruce:
Had to pick up my prescription - unless everything has changed, I'm with United Health Care Medicare Advantage, which means medicine is supposed to cost NOTHING - no co-pay. The guy waiting on me said it's only for over the counter medicine, which makes no sense at all. I'll contact them tomorrow and find out what's what.
What! That does not make sense at all. Was it expensive? If so, they might have searched and found a better price for you.

Pretty photo George. I do like the color.

Thank you, DR Jane. At my last appointment my cardiologist (who’s quite a character), said, “This is what I do - we’ll fix it!”

Wednesday morning, Vixdad, annoyed he was getting cold water instead of hot stomped down to see what was what abd stmped intob3 inches of water across the basement

Sorry about your water troubles, Vixmom. No fun!

The vixmobile has passed Ridgeland SC, a spot I have a couple of nice memories of: (a) one time, enjoying a good cheeseburger and shake at a Dairy Queen that's long gone, and (b) another time, staying at a Days Inn or something similar because we had a second wind and there were three of us so we got all the way past Lumberton NC down to there and called it a night. But the next morning was lovely and we got into the Orlando area way earlier than we would have normally.
-
BK should be delighted to hear from vixmom that the book has been ordered ... twice. :D

Co-pay was forty bucks. Took me by surprise.
-
Maybe when the time comes you can check out other options.
I think I am going to look at a new Humana plan. When I started I got $500 twice a year for dental and vision, $45 a month for groceries, and $75 every three months for OTC stuff.
The only thing left is the $75.
I'll probably stick with Humana - no prescription cost AT ALL....but I want some of my freebies back....please.
-
Travel and visit vibes for DR VIXMOM.
I had to get a new water heater last spring....$3000.....I blame Jose.
-
It is 87 degrees here.....too darn hot.....as Hoosier Cole Porter would say.....
-

That's better than $1,400 a month for one prescription and $600 for another.

Hello, everyone.
-
I was sorry to hear about Joel’s passing. We never met, but I certainly heard a lot about him when we were all teens. Bruce and Joel shared a bedroom and it was very contentious. I’m pleased that they became friends later in life. And Joel writing songs! That was a surprise!
RIP Joel.

-
Hello, Chas!
-
So now that the big reveal with the book has happened, I will post a small reveal of what I did this afternoon that the book totally inspired:
I took out The Parent Trap and watched it straight through, probably for my first time since ... I dunno, when I was a teen? I kid you not. Of course I saw it a lot as a kid, and of course I've seen clips all through the years, but I swear it's probably been that long since I really watched the movie. Isn't that ridiculous? What's also ridiculous is how much of the story (other than the key twins scenes and of course the songs) I'd more or less forgotten.
It was a wonderful return to what I will unabashedly declare is an absolutely wonderful movie. Must get back to more of those.
-
I, too, feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. My wounds are healing as they should, but I’m wiped out. I attribute it to lack of sleep, allergies, surgery, and being burnt out to start with. I have a light week ahead — and hope it stays that way!
-
I’ve never watched The Parent Trap. I should rectify that.
-
Guess who now wants to negotiate? Yes, the difficult seller of the condo I wanted. His wonderful tenants have given notice. That changes things a bit. I’m still interested, but at the price he said he’d accept and the terms in our offer. We shall see.
-
Congrats to the Vixfam on buying a house.
May they have many happy years there.

Waiting on the habitually late Barry Pearl. Supposed to be here in one minute, but I think he just left his house - which, depending on traffic, is a good twenty minutes from here. Getting into a restaurant then becomes dicey.
-
Had the ubiquitous computer freeze - this time it wasn't a week between them, it was a week and a half. But I have to get a new computer and that's that. And I'm thinking that will happen in the next week or two before this thing gives up the ghost completely and I lose stuff.
-
I will go to the Apple Store and ask a lot of questions - mostly between dealing with an all in one like mine but a smaller screen, which I don't think I'd like - or a Mac Mini and a monitor - I've been researching those and for basically the same price as the all in one, I can get a really nice monitor and the two terabyte Mac Mini - that isn't cheap but the monitor isn't that much so if you add the two TB to the all in one it comes out to about 2300 with tax and that's what this would be - maybe a tiny bit more. Everyone loves the Mac Mini and I don't want to give up my 27-inch monitor.

Watching The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, which I have never seen before. I love that it’s more melancholy than the TV series. Glenn Ford and Ron Howard are really good together.

It’s predictable, but Minnelli’s direction is solid. And his color sense is sure.

If memory serves, you know who’s in that? The lovely Roberta Sherwood, who didn’t have a ton of screen appearances but was a great singer on many a Decca LP.

Yes. She was Mrs. Livingston, the housekeeper.

Back from the play - there was a talkback after the show and there was no way to leave. Interesting play with some funny bits here and there, but too many endings.

BK, when Danny Peary wrote his Cult Movies book, did he get in touch with you? I feel like the Nudie entry had some insider knowledge of the Paramount shenanigans that you later revealed in full.
-
And question 2 is, when did you get a sense that it had become a “cult” movie? Was it through Showtime airings and such, or did it play as a midnight movie in some places?

I think I paid $800 for my Windows 10 computer with a 1.5 TB hard drive.

I also have several external hard drives to store various kinds of files.

But even if it cost less, I don't know much of anything about Macs, so I wouldn't want to have to learn a whole new computer system...but that's just me. ;)

I hope you get something that you really like, BK!
-
I need to get a new computer, too.
-
Not because it's crapping out on me, but because Windows 10 won't be supported after October...but you can pay $30 for another year of critical updates, so it's not really going to be unsupported. ::)
-
I'm still deciding if I want to pay $30 to delay the inevitable, or just take the plunge and deal with the latest Windows operating system.
-
Only time will tell.

I do not like gin and am not familiar with most brands.
I rarely drink at all, so I don't know nothin' 'bout no gin.

Danny Peary got a lot of his info from a magazine interview we did back in the day - I think the mag was called Filmmaker's Newsletter. The first I knew about Cult Movies 2 was when I saw it in the store. It was a complete surprise to me and a nice one.
-
By the beginning of the 80s it was clear it had become a major cult thing due to cable and repertory theaters and midnight shows. I suppose the defining moment for me was when I got a fan letter from Chicago saying there was a John Smithee fan club.
-
Thanks, wow. Yeah Peary did a great job with those books.
-
Soup, salad, and pie have arrived - ordered clam chowder, which they have every day - got minestrone.
-
Don't know how you mistake one for the other. Oh and chocolate cream pie.
-
I'd loved the first Cult Movies book, so it was quite an honor and treat to be in the second volume.
-
I might be craving some PIE.
Mmm...pie. :)
-
That reminds me that I have some Entemann's mini snack pies!
-
It’s interesting to see what films in those books had “legs” and what ones have completely faded from most consciousness. You don’t hear much about King of Hearts from 1967 or Deep End from 1971 these days. The ones in volume 2 are all pretty well still in the culture.
-
Ans so I'll have one:
-
It's a little past its "Best if used by" date, but not enough to worry about!
-
Just got a refund for the soup part.
-
Gratuitous Post #203!!
-
New notes are up.
-
Of course the whole idea of cult movies is not what it once was with so few revival houses and midnight shows.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Minestrone madness!
-
8!
-
Today, everything is automatically a cult movie - the words have no meaning anymore.
-
Right. “Classic” has no meaning either.

That's really cool!
