Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a roman numeral in the arm (IV), and now it is time for you to post until the roamin' Roman counting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RACONTEUR!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.

Good morning, all!

I was unable to read the last two pages of posts this morning. I kept getting a blank page with this information:
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

After my plumbing posts about 2C and 1C yesterday, everything was quiet. I don't think things are settled and I wouldn't be surprised by more madness today.
-
More Madness Today is title of volume 4 of my memoirs.
-
My friend Gail texted me last night and told me that their is some kind of committee meeting on Sept 18 - and we may be able to get our Covid shot without a prescription.
She heard that from the Kroger pharmacy. Time will tell. I still haven't had a response to my email to my doctor.
-
As to NYC plumbers and pizza boys, they have never looked so hot as they do in the movies. I remember that when I moved to New York in 1979, rumor was that the one apartment in the Village that the pizza boys refused to deliver to was James Coco's.
-
The one absolutely positive thing that happened yesterday is that I found my birth certificate and finished all of my senior citizen application, which Jen will post for me today.

This is what seems to be a nice New York moment - Lady Gaga arrived to do the Colbert show, and made a point of going across the street to say hello to waiting fans before going back across the street and into the theater

That's nice, Freddie. I know fans can be very annoying. But to a fan, it's really exciting to meet a favorite celebrity.
-
Nice DR ELMORE.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Congrats to DR Elmore on finding the birth certificate.
Whenever I can't immediately lay my hands on something like this, I get quietly frantic, and can't think of anything else until I find the apparently brilliant place I left it in last time.

Last night I completed my retrospective of the "Frankie and Annette" box set with Fireball 500 and Thunder Alley. What an interesting journey, in only a four-year stretch starting with the original Beach Party. I enjoyed these two more than I'd remembered. Very AIP, but in that "other" mode.
-
DR JOhn, your peach pie looks very good.
-
DR George, I hope you don't hurt yourself falling to your knees. Can you add padding to your pants?
-
From DR MichaelG:
Enjoy it! The biggest applause I ever got on stage was when I was playing Mr. Fogg and Johanna shot me.
;D

Jane or singdaw or anyone who watches streaming shows - are you planning to watch the new 6-episode series THE GIRLFRIEND on Amazon Prime? It sounds like an interesting though maybe ambitious idea, that half of each episode is from the point of view of the guy's mother who's suspicious of his new social-climbing girlfriend, the other half of each episode from the point of view of the girlfriend.

I hadn't heard of it. Unless the reviews are amazing, and Keith is interested, I doubt we will watch this.

The plumber is here replacing our new faucets that continue to leak. I preferred the look of the old ones, however, if these don't leak I will be fine with them.

My online guide through google calls THE GIRLFRIEND a Thriller. I may need to take a look at reviews to check if it's a slasher type piece (which I tend not to like all that much).

I changed my mind about being ok with the new facetts. I'm less than ok and hope I get used to them.

DR FREDDIE sad news about Polly Holliday.

My question for ASK BK DAY.
Was Polly in the episode you appeared in? Did you have any particular impression of her if so?

That cymbal crash at the end is so cymbolic, er, symbolic.
-
But Annette is lovely and sounds lovely.
-
Polly is in the episode. Trying to molest an FBI man in Mel’s back room.
-
Richard “The Stunt Man” Rush directed Thunder Alley, and you can see he’s experimenting with a long uncut take in that Annette scene.

I'm trying to make a list of all the questions to ask my primary care doctor before my visit this afternoon. It's easiest to bring things up during these quarterly visits.
-
Skip this post if you're having lunch.
I couldn't understand the results of my stool sample test from a few weeks ago, and I'm hoping it doesn't indicate a need for a colonoscopy. It's called a "Fit Kit" which sounds like a fun test - but the F in Fit stands for Fecal.
I'd like to think I'd have been called if a colpnoscopy were warranted. I guess I'll find out this afternoon.
-
"Fit" can stand for Fecal Immunochemical Test, or for Fashion Institute of Technology.

It is nice not to have to leave towels in the sink to catch the drip.

Found a recipe for a Texas fudge pecan pie that looks delicious and easy.

Now I'm going to have to take out The Stunt Man and watch it. Been a long time.
Totally agree re Annette, and the long take. I was rather blown away by her in both this and Fireball. But also, by the incredibly (relatively speaking) "adult" writing and situations in these two. I was even thinking that if anything reinforces the heartbreak of her health spiral, it's seeing what she was capable of here.
-
Just listened to Lea Michele sing Someone Else’s Story from Chess. Not to my liking. She sounds like a Disney princess singing an “I want” song. No heartbreak, no real emotion.
-
Jen came down to take Oscar for a walk and mail the thing I was working on yesterday. I was telling her aboutr all the plumbing madness yesterday morning, and she said she had seen the lady in 1C yesterday afternoon and that the problem was fixed.
Well, I'm glad.

She was doing her slavish Streisand impersonation. There was no life there. No originality.

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep, muffin eaten, pills about to be taken. Lunch at two.

Yes, Polly was in the Alice I did. That entire cast was very nice to work with, including Linda Lavin who, back in 2015, when I told her I'd done an episode said, "Was I nice that week?" and I was happy to tell her was was. Outside of the actual rehearsing, most of my off-stage interaction was with Beth Howland - we had a couple of friendly dinners and movie nights. And I'd already worked with Vic Tayback and would become pretty good friends with Dave Ketchum. Michael V. Gazzo was very weird.

Well, maybe not the emotion associated with it in some past renditions, but who knows what role it will play in the new book? Maybe we'll get an audience-choice version as to whether Florence or Svetlana sings it each night. I don't get any Disney vibes though.

The Disney comment stems mostly from how upbeat she sounds especially during the key changes.

Wonderful You Were There moments from MR BK.

Appreciate the Annette Clips....from Thunder Alley.....yes...she really had it going on....although she wasn't called upon by a lot of her performances.
I have never read a negative report about her from ANYOME who worked with her.
I received MANY "autographed" cards from her from Walt Disney and AIP in response to fan letters......and still am fond of her......
-
As I wrote in my original musical produced by The Phoenix Theatre entitled BEACH PARTY NUCLEAR PROTEST......"the only guys who didn't want to marry her were the guys who wanted to be her...."
Big laugh every night......

If you have a history of polyps, even if you don't have any now, you are more likely to get a positive result on this test. Many other issues can cause a positive test.

I've been reading about this killing today and the breast-beating of the MAGA crowd about how it's always the leftists causing this. Funny how they don't mention Melissa Hortman and her husband (I think I've got the name right) Democrat lawmaker shot to death, or the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband. And funny, when Trump cannot deflect the conversation away from something that can truly hurt him, there are two attempts to shoot him and now this - and what is no one talking about anymore. I hate to have these thoughts, but have them I do. Nothing would surprise me anymore. Violence bets violence and there should be no place for it on either side.

Agree.

Watching the first episode of the new Matlock. It’s fun.

"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights" - Charlie Kirk, 2023
-
I need to go to bed.
-
But I feel I could watch Matlock all night.
-
It’s a little too commercial network, but the acting is great.
-
Unlike Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, I will be watching more of Matlock.
-
Where is everyone?
-
Not here
-
Gratuitous post 199!
-
Rupert dance 200!
-
Good night, all.
-
And now, I'm off to the theater!
I am home. :)
-
Tonight, we blocked and ran "Board of Governors," and I and a few other "customers" were added to "Bring On the Men."
-
And now, for something completely different:
WA now ranks as 2nd most expensive state for gas, 43% higher than national average (https://mynorthwest.com/local/washington-gas-prices-4/4130109)

It sounds like a pop version of the song, not the interpretation that one would (or should, in my opinion) sing in the show. :-\
Maybe that's what it's supposed to be, or maybe the new book has a different take on things. I suspect it will change. They don't even start previews for another month yet, these are all early teasers. I'm seeing it the week it opens, in case it has a similar fate to the original Broadway run. I'm more concerned that they've cast the tenor as the baritone and vice versa.
-
I've been reading about this killing today and the breast-beating of the MAGA crowd about how it's always the leftists causing this.
BK, you're not the only one with these thoughts. A few people online and on MSNBC were saying the exact same thing.

Her version very easily could just be the teaster version. Hopefully, if a cast recording is made (and I hope that one is), they'll rerecord it and it'll all sound of a piece.
-
My buddy that I met singing in a community theater concert version of Chess doesn't think this Broadway production will end well. But I'm an eternal optimist.
-
But switching the baritone and tenor parts is kinds weird. Maybe the actors fit the "types" better than their voices? :-\

I'm pretty confident they'll re-record all of these if they do a cast recording.

This show/score seems like it's really much better as a concert or a recording than when a full production is mounted.

Yeah, probably, and it's a high baritone part. But "Pity the Child" gets really high.

That's why everybody tries rewriting the book; it's never worked. Maybe this time will be the charm; my friend is (deservedly) highly skeptical. If only Michael Bennett had lived to direct it in the West End...
-
I will just add this to what I wrote earlier - the gunman got away. How? Will he conveniently be shot on sight if they ever do figure out who it was?
-
Watched some of a four-part doc on the Billionaires Boys Club, of which I knew nothing. I do believe I was quite the zombie in the 1980s.

Hopefully, a whole bunch of keys don't have to get changed. :P

BK, glad your eye is getting better.
DITTO!
Ditto, Too!!

I just missed being in school with Judy Kuhn by one semester.
Darn.

When I was going to Western Washington University, I had a couple of classes with pre-Metropolitan Opera star Heidi Lynn Grant (eventually) Murphy. :)

She had an incredible voice even back then.

Is this a bit of karma? ::)

...or just a self-fulfilling prophecy??

Did not enjoy this new rendition of "Someone Else's Story" at all.
I think George’s take, pop song version, is what I called Disney princess.
Makes sense.
