And I am home from another US Postal Moment: I took a Hanukkah gift - several items in an Amazon.com carton about 13x10x10 that I salvaged in our basement recyclables - to my local post office. Because i cannot carry a large carton and a cane well, I took a taxi, which cost me $6.00.
I had no sooner put the carton on the scale of the self-service gizmo when a rather young postal clerk jumped me and said, the Post office doesn't ship cartons with Amazon.com info/artwork on them; it screws up our lasers. I asked if she had a marker so that I could cross out all the Amazon.com artwork. she did not.
I then decided:
1. i had never had a problem before shipping things in Amazon cartons;
2. i was not going to spend another $12.00 taking the carton home, repacking everything and returning with maybe two cartons;
3. Perhaps she was a bitch on a power trip.
So, I bought the postage and she threw another fit insisting the carton was too large; it was not.
I then mailed the package and left. I've since sent an email to the postal service and called amazon about carton concerns.
