Ron, how are you feeling?

A bit under the weather lately.

Vibes you're over the weather soon.

DR John, Keith has decided we will take a little, very little Texas road trip.  From Austin we will drive to Waco for the night and see the Dr. Pepper and Ranger museums.  Before arriving in San Antonio we shall spend a night someplace else.

I am thinking it would be nice to stop and see the Westcave Preserve and then stay in Fredericksburg.

After San Antonio he still wants to stop for the night before heading to the Austin–Bergstrom.  I have come up with some possibilities....
La Grange
Gruene, New Braunfels
Shiner
San Marcos

Please, what do you think of these options?  Can you suggest something better?

Gruene/New Braunfels is just up the road from San Antonio and on the road from here to Austin. It's a charming place with a couple of great places, the Gristmill Restaurant, which overlooks the river and is housed in an old mill. Next door is Gruene Hall, a great place to hear music and dance (it was featured in the John Travolta movie, "Michael").

Shiner is about two hours east of San Antonio. I haven't been there. I hear it's nice. It's sort of near Luling, which is a great spot for barbecue.

I love the town square of La Grange, and there is a great meat market, Prause's, there. I found the people really charming there. Very Texas small town.

Don't really know San Marcos, other than it's a university town.

Is there anybody here who doesn't watch DANCING WITH THE STARS, but who would be willing to vote for me?

Tonight was the first part of the finale. And they decided not to let people from Canada vote this year (which I loved doing).

The show hasn't aired on the West Coast yet. So if you do watch the show and live on the West Coast then stop reading now. Although I am pretty sure that they leave up all four choices (even the person who got eliminated).

My favorite couple (they absolutely blew me away tonight) is James and Sharna.  Such an incredible freestyle routine.

On the way between Austin and San Antonio is Kyle, home of the Texas Pie Company. There's a big cherry pie slice over the door.

Wimberley is another charming town in between the two cities that might be worth a visit. Also a pie company there, but a really beautiful park.

I am curious to see the Girl on the Train movie.  I liked the book, but didn't love it. I wish the mystery had been more developed.

Watching "Once Is Not Enough." What a mess! Kirk Douglas, Alexis Smith, George Hamilton and a whole lot of nonsense. Only Brenda Vacarro seems to be having any fun. And the Henry Mancini score is dreadful. Julius Epstein is far from his Casablanca best.

I have a cookbook from Junior's in Brooklyn. I really enjoyed my visit there. Great egg cream, as I recall.

I have suffered a big allergy attack all day today. The cedar is blooming. I hope it doesn't destroy me this season. I have been a leaky faucet all day.

Went to Gelson's and got some shrimp and a no-calorie salad into which I put half the shrimp.  Eating it now accompanied by the Shostakovich fifth.

Thanks, BK and DRs Jane and Jeanne.  That deli idea I had is just completely wrong for that location.  I think it's one of those memory/image things that's based on something real but the rest of the image got created out of whole cloth, and it can never be resolved.

I know (now) exactly where Junior's/Lenny's is, and I did indeed know Factor's from the year I lived on S. Beverly Dr., just south of Cashio.  I'm happy to hear it's still there.

I have memories like that.  I was surprised to find Junior's had an earlier location.

DR John thanks for the suggestions.   I will share them with Keith tomorrow.  He is basically planning this trip and I am sending places of interest to me.

Finished with Shostakovich, and am listening to a delightful piece by Frank Martin, conducted by Stokowski.  Don't know anything about Martin, but this piece is fun and has harpsichord.  It's like film music.
