I came home to a horrible smell. The apartment next door to me is being renovated. The painters had told me that you can only buy no-VOC (nontoxic) paint in California these days. Whatever this was, it was NOT nontoxic. The smell pervades my apartment, too. It's really smelly. The management here is so irresponsible. I'd like to see a little karma at work.

Yikes!  That's terrible!

We’re back, too!  DR KevinH picked a fabulous place for tonight’s dinner.

There will be photographic evidence.

I do have a nice photo, but this site says it’s too big to post.  Maybe if I put it on Facebook someone can transfer it over here...

Today I went to a wonderful free (thank you, ProQuest!) genealogy seminar and Richard toured the Library of Congress.  We’re going to enjoy a slow morning tomorrow and aim to get to the convention center in time for me to hear Hoda Kotb speak at 11:30.

No one liked the lyric?  Maybe I'll put it back in the box from whence it came.

It's a great lyric!  I love how the first three lines rhyme with the next three lines, and the internal rhymes at the ends of the verses.  Hopefully, we get to hear the music!

Thank you and thank you for noticing the rhyme scheme.  The internals at the end of the verses were all added recently.

DR Ginny's been to my old 'hood. Lower King St was my stomping ground. Which hotel are you staying at?

Back from what I can only describe as a grueling trip to the DMV.  The last time I had to actually go to a DMV, let alone take a written test, was probably fifteen to twenty years ago.   It's a whole new world and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, especially foreign people.  Having a specific appointment has been rendered kind of meaningless, and thank goodness I got there twenty-five minutes early.  The whole thing took ninety minutes, so you can only imagine what it must be like without an appointment.  I'll go into detail later in the notes, but the bottom line is I passed the test and now have a current and good license.  As you know, I've been taking the five sample tests on the DMV site for days - new ones every day, AND I took a sample test on a different site.  Would you like to know how many questions from those sample tests were on the actual test I took (which one takes on a computer now)?  Two.  I couldn't believe it.  I did get three wrong, which is the most you can err, although you can immdiately take a new test if you fail, like instantly - and they were such stupid and  truly pointless ephemera that I hadn't even looked at in the handbook, including one about what percentage of alcohol you can have and legally drive - um, I don't drink so I don't care.  I can't even remember what the other two were but the answer choices were confusing on both.  And then another hour at the bank doing stuff there, and then finally I treated myself to a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and a side Caesar salad at Jerry's Deli.  I'm so happy I've got all this crapola out of the way.

Yes, Crystal City has a number of hotels. Right on the Metro, too. Lots of street life in Old Town, particularly on a summer evening.

I haven't even put them on since getting them.  And guess what?  I didn't use them for the eye test and passed that without a single mis-call.
