You wouldn't want the bones removed from a fish before cooking. Bones are where the flavor is. Anyway, I guess I was taught that by a snooty, language-is-frozen person, who would not realize that after 50 years of usage, a word can change.

The other day, a woman was complaining about the Washington Post using "gift" as a verb. It's been used as a verb since the 17th century. If we've been using "gift" as a verb for 400 years, then, by gum, it's a verb.
