So..... remember those new chains I was going to put on the chainsaws?

Just did it. And what a difference. Oh lordy. This was long overdue.

And I believe that’s my big accomplishment for the day.

Those are wonderful things. Way too much power for the little job I had to do now. But I could haul mine out for work in the backyard.

It has been so cold the past few days. Thank goodness no snow (just a few flakes that melted on the ground). But so brisk. Last weekend I was outside in a t-shirt. And now i have 3 layers. :(

I'm waiting for Yo-Yo Ma's concert in a few minutes.

Did anyone else do anything with saws today? Speak up, folks.

Oh yeah, I'm up - eight hours of sleep, almost.  But had to immediately do a phone meeting to fix stuff in a chart and correct some rhythm issues.  And once that was done there was a Zoom birthday bash for Adryan Russ that I had to do.

Then I had two tuna sandwiches for food, and now I'm toying with the Reese's peanut butter cheesecake, which is sinfully good.

I just saw the Yo-Yo Ma concert, ChasSmith (if you'll excuse the saw pun). If you didn't, try to catch it on replay on the Lincoln Center channel. Incredibly moving. About 20 minutes of him playing everything from Schumann and a Bach sarabande to Schubert's Ave Maria. Dvorak's Coming Home made for a powerful finale. Throughout is a list of names of people who died from the virus.

DR Ginny, I'm happy to hear the DD driver was tracked down as I predicted.

DR Elmore, I think it was DR JRand who posted about the Door Dash disaster.

I haven’t used DD and, after hearing that story, I might never.

I watched Funny Lady this afternoon, because we’d seen Funny Girl on TV last weekend.  The sequel has its moments, but doesn’t hold a candle to the original.

It's warm out there. I went to Lowe's to look for some paint to redo an old chest of drawers and a saw. The paint selections were so drab they depressed me. But I bought the saw.

I am surprised your color options weren't better.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve got a tab open to watch it later.

No. But I do love those Kander and Ebb songs, as well as the classics.

Yo-Ma-Ma......

Exactly. Like I told someone else today, I've been called a mother many times before. So, when I hear Happy Mother's Day, I just figure they're talking to me.

Happy Mother's Day!

My mother got a Mother's Day card from one of my cousins. It was a very nice surprise for her.

Mom enjoyed The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, though she found it a little depressing. I told her, sure, it was set during the Depression, and there was hope at the ending and that was good.

Has anyone read Jojo Moyes's The Gift of Stars, also about the book women in Kentucky?

I’d like a sequel to Troublesome Creek, following Honey into adulthood.

And, yes, I’ve also read the Moyes book.  Her version doesn’t ring as true.

The thing that astonished me when I read these books was that I’d never heard of the packhorse librarians before.  Even with an undergrad degree in American studies that included a lot of history courses, a Master’s in library science, and 30+ years of working in the field.

At the time DR Ginny mentioned The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek we discussed the difference and similarities between the two books.  While Ginny preferred Troublesome Creek I felt they were equal, but then I read Giver of Stars first.  I would suggest your mother wait a bit before reading it, if she plans to.

DR Ginny I am sure I read about the book women prior to the release of these two books, yet I can't find what I might have read.  I certainly knew about them, though not as well as I do now.

Kentucky is so Republican that, I'm sure, they tried to erase any WPA progress that had been made.

I'm going to give Moyes's book a try. Nice to know beforehand not to expect as much as Book Woman.

I wasn't expecting Bryan to call today as he worked last night.  Before going to pick up a nice brunch for Kate, and then going to sleep, they called us.  Keith answered in the kitchen on the Google contraption they gave us and we chatted while Keith cooked blueberry buttermilk pancakes for me.

I wish we had been making a video of the call.  Freyja was especially happy and responded more to us, or at least to our movements.  We discovered she likes watching & listening to Sherlock's monkey squeaky toy.  She smiles at the sound of the animals from her baby book.  When Bryan makes sounds like Chewbacca she scrunches up her face to cry-not good when her Daddy is a big Star Wars fan-lol.

After breakfast we went for a walk then chatted with Craig once we were home.  It was a very nice long chat.
