I am sure I have seen various versions of "you're gone" prior to removing a friend.  I suppose in the future it is safer to stick with "unfriend" or simply not say anything and unfriend them.  I am sorry and angry this happened.

I spoke with the hospital and Larry is out of surgery and resting in his room. He is in a bit of pain and tired, but the surgery went well.  I hope to hear from him at some point tomorrow (if he's up to it) and will send along details and updates as I get them.

Thanks for the update.  I fear the pain will get worse before it is better.  I hope I am wrong.
