Well, you've read the notes, the notes were square and had melon, and now it is time for you to post until the square cows come home.

Just finished watching the test video.  It was fun and quite informative. :)

Today, I'm going back to my parents' to have dinner with the family.  We're having a 4-cheese lasagna...it's store-bought, but still good. :) And now, to bed.

Have a good day, all!

I had a good night of sleep.  Again, I remember no dreams, only bits, like something about Bernstein's Candide and something about my friend Chuck Cooper and other singers in a studio or waiting room.

And today?  Nothing's changed; today is like yesterday and the day before, although I am thinking about working on an orchestration, just to keep myself busy.

BLUE DENIM

That was the first play I ever directed.  I was 21.

After we lost our leading man two weeks before opening, I stepped in and played the part.

I think the year was 1962.  We did it at the Boards Playhouse in West Seattle.

Carol Lynley  was a dear friend.

She wanted to do my one-woman play, (Carole) LOMBARD, and she even did a staged reading of it one Saturday afternoon at a 99 seat theater in Hollywood.  Full house.

Unfortunately, after the reading, we were informed that this was a "pay-for-play" theater, so an actual production never happened.

LOMBARD did get a regular production a couple years later, but Carol was not available.

In fact, LOMBARD has now been successfully produced in theaters all over the country.

I spoke to Carol a couple months before she passed away.

Nice lady.

I only remember parts of a couple of dreams, the content of which were along usual themes but with unusual twists. They’re practically disappearing as I write this, except for the getting separated from whoever I was with in a rambling building one.

It was actually a rocky night of sleep, thanks to being awakened by a sneezing fit at two in the morning — and then to lower back pain on waking up in this morning, which hasn’t bothered me in quite a while, and I hadn’t even appreciated that until its return. Hopefully, it’s just a one-night visit.

I have never seen Blue Denim on stage or screen. It sounds good. I mean, the original play. I'm sorry to hear they rather botched the transition to screen. Not that that's ever been anything unusual, especially in those days.

Definitely love Carol Lynley, though.

I went out to sit on the porch in my rocking chair (hoo-hah, an Allan Sherman reference) - and forgot the test!

TOD:

I think I mentioned my views on Miss Carol Lynley recently here.  I don'd understand her acting style in many of her films, but the ones I liked her in mostly make up for it:

Blue Denim (I agree 100% with Mr BK on what he said about the play and the film.....I saw it on TV when I was small and thought Warren Berlinger was great....I have been a fan since then)
The Cardinal
Light In the Forest
The Shuttered Room

Sidney Poitier:

Just about everything up to the 1970's.

In the years we've had a Five Guys nearby, I have both greatly enjoyed and been disappointed in their offerings. They're quite expensive for a burger joint, and that keeps them open to more criticism than they might otherwise receive. And I think that's a problem. They seem to be competing with the likes of Shake Shack -- also expensive, but they serve what I happily call a gourmet burger, what with their remarkable blend of beef and their care in cooking it to order. At least Five Guys gets it right when they say their burgers are well done but juicy.

I prefer to eat right there, when the goods are hot and fresh. What BK observes about the delivery service is what we experience here, even when we're ordering there and driving the stuff right home which is five minutes away. Both the burgers and the fries lose something in the journey.

The fries are a subject all their own, too. By the way, the spillover from the cup is normal. They overload it on purpose. When I'm really famished, I can put away every fry they give me, even in a large order. But they are generally on the soft side, no question. And I never order their or anyone else's "Cajun" or otherwise spicy fries. I'm one of the (apparent) few who find that kind of thing a complete distraction from what good french fries are supposed to be. It's a sore subject with me.

So, a love-hate relationship. We only think to eat from Five Guys once or twice a year, and these are the reasons why.

I've never tried a Five Guys hot dog. I think, again, that the crazy price has always held me back. Whatever that price is has never made sense to me.

Ate at a Five Guys in San Antonio once. Worst burger experience of my life. The never-frozen meat was rancid. The bun was way too sweet. Never again.

Saturday morning greetings!

And today?  Nothing's changed; today is like yesterday and the day before...

My sentiments, exactly, DR Elmore.  The novelty has definitely worn off.

We did have a nice visit last night with Rob and Mary Linda and Charlotte.  It started out as just an audio phone call, because they thought Charlotte was down for the night.  When they realized that was not the case, we switched to a video visit via Facebook Messenger and we saw her sweet smile and that she's becoming fascinated with her fingers.
