Well, you've read the notes, the notes were non-stop, and now it is time for you to post until the non-stop cows come home.

Hal Linden did a great version of that (wanna-be-a-hit) tune, "The Midas Touch." ;D

DR vixmom, your story sounds quite similar to my back issues. I think you may have a crushed disc(s) in your back pressing on your spinal cord. Please look into that ASAP.

The good: my pickup time was 1:30, and I received notification by text around 1:25 that the driver would be there in seven minutes or so. The text described the car and gave me the driver's phone number. Several minutes later the driver called me and said he would be there in three minutes.  He showaed up in front of my building where I was waiting, loaded my walker into the trunk, and I arrived - because 5th Avenue traffic is impossible - a little before 2:30 for my 3:00 appointment.

The bad: there was no crowd, so they saw me almost as soon as I arrived. My interview was over by 3:00, and the interviewer suggested I call Access-A-Ride to see if I coul;d be picked up earlier. I did, and they told me there were no earlier times, but if I wanted to take a taxi home, they would reimburse me. I had a book, so I opted to wait.

BAD NO. 1: AAR suggests you book the ride for travel 90 minutes before and after your appointment.

So, around 4:15 I moved from the waiting room where I was reading to the lobby. At 4:45 the driver - who clearly spoke English as a third or fourth language - said something to me, and since I assumed it was "I'll be there in three minutes," I went outside to wait on the sidewalk. Around 5:00 I got a text from AAR saying he would be there in 17 minutes, so that made my ride about 47 minutes later than my scheduled pickup time. round 5:05, I called AAR to ask what the hell was going on. They close shop at 5:00 and I could get no help.

At 5:25, I decided fuckit, walked to the corner of Sixth Avenue and flagged down a taxi. The ride cost me $32.00, and I got home around 6:15. The cats were not amused and I was fit to be tied.

And around 5:35, the driver phones to tell me he had arrived, 65 minutes later than scheduled.

And that's BAD NO. 2.

I think if I had got a taxi at 3:00, and not during rush hour. the ride would have cost me less.

Sorry about your experience, DR elmore3003.  Getting around Manhattan is no picnic. For anyone. But especially for those with mobility issues.

Last night, I attended the online premiere of a new cantata by my friend, composer Jonathan Comisar. It is a setting of George Washington's letter "to the Hebrew congregation of Newport, Rhode Island" from 1790. It is called No Bigotry, No Sanction. It was performed by a crack choir and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. I found it profoundly beautiful and moving. It starts in Hebrew (subtitled), but quickly turns to English, and in all encompasses about 15 languages.

If you have any interest in sampling it, it starts at about 12:25 at this link. The full performance runs about 25 minutes.

Many errands to run today, in the rain. Heavy boxes of litter to cart, in the rain. Parking lots to negotiate, in the rain. These are a few of my favorite things.

DR Elmore, what a nightmare.

So apparently there's a learning curve, in return for the low price, in making their system work for you.

Here's hoping your getting reimbursed for that taxi won't be an ordeal. Great honk.

And I'll agree with both of these. Thank you, boys, for doing my work for me today.

I think that tomorrow morning I will taxi to East 66th Street. Simce I do not know how l;ong I will be there (four hours or so), it's difficult to schedule my return and I do not relish sitting there for several hours waiting for pickup. Once I've got the radiation treatment times set up, I'll know more about scheduling.

Have you ever tried to eat a clock?

It's very time-consuming.
