Today, I'll probably do some laundry before I usher at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts (last night was at South Puget Sound Community College).  Tonight's event is the Johansen Olympia Dance Center.  Previous dance companies for which I've ushered have shown filmed dances, but I don't know if this will have in-person performing, or if they'll show films.  I'll find out soon enough.

DR vixmom, no, I am, not cancer free, much as I wish I were!  There were no signs of cancer in my skeletal system, which is very good. I will begin treatment for prostate cancer on Thursday.

Tomorrow morning I have a zoom meeting with my collaborator and producer for Moonshine & Mistletoe. He's trying to sell it for television, so some good vibes might be helpful. I also have an Amazon Fresh delivery, and Michael Gildin coming in, so it will be a busy day. Today, I'm resting up!

BK, I'm with you on Chimes at Midnight, which is based on Shakespeare's two Henry IV plays. Much as I love Henry V, I have never cared much for either part of the prequels, and I've never found Falstaff and nis cronies much fun. They seem to be having much more fun than I in the audience am having. I will say, though, that I do find the scene in Henry IV, Part Two, when Falstaff and his crew arrive at the coronation, expecting their cohort in crime, Prince Hal, to let them live at court, and he, now crowned King Henry V, banishes them one of the truly heartbreaking moments in drama.

What do Ponchielli and Verdi have in common besides being Italian opera composers? Boito, who wrote the libretti for Verdi's Otello and Falstaff and Ponchielli's La Gioconda, which is one of my most favorite operas with the stupidest plot. The music, including Fantasia's "Dance of the Hours," is quite beautiful, and this recording is really fine.

I agree that Falstaff isn’t likable or enjoyable in these two plays. But to me, that makes the ending inevitable, not all that heartbreaking. It’s like the Shakespearean equivalent of “Bye, Felicia!”

I loved the test pattern as well.  We had three local channels....Channel 4 (independent), Channel 6 (NBC), and Channel 8 (CBS).

Then one day in 1957, it was announced that Channel 13 (ABC) would begin broadcasting in October!  I turned to the channel every day....nothing....and then suddenly a TEST PATTERN....for a few days....and then.....THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB!

The Hunchback is morte.

Great audience....set is struck.....and now I move on to JOSEPH with auditions at 3 p.m. this afternoon.  Last night during strike, I went upstairs in The Little Barn and brought down my palm trees and my camel....but I couldn't find my cactus.

This might be some HUNCHBACK photos.

I first saw Chimes at Midnight at the Welles festival I attended at USC around 1981. They screened it with Macbeth one evening. (I remember Dan O’Herlihy was there.) I was fascinated by it then, but I haven’t had much luck getting into it and staying with it since.

I do love him in that and I love that play. I know it's a problem play for some, but I saw a magical production of it that remains with me 40+ years later.

I went dancing this morning for 90 minutes. We worked on a series of tango steps that were new to me, but they came easily. Some had parts that we had worked on before. Felt good.
