I called back immediately. The guy said he completed the data recovery and was pretty sure he got most of it. Of course, "most of it" scared me. He said to come over and he'd show me stuff. So, I got dressed, brushed the teeth, and was there in ten minutes. He hooked up the back up drive and took me through it, and we do believe - drum roll - that he got it all - all 560 gigs of it. I may have to download some apps and stuff, but since he got it all, I'm kind of hoping that maybe those are there, too. So, after six horror-filled days, I can, at long last, breathe a little easier. He'll now do the clean and reinstall, check everything, and says I can have it on Monday. I'll schedule a call with my senior tech for that day and he can help with anything if there's anything I need help with. Hallelujah!

DR George it seems you will have a decision to make, get a second shot of J&J or Pfizer, or Moderna.

DR Jennifer I believe you made a similar decision mixing your second dose.

Yay for BK's computer and data!

I haven't had to enjoy that particular panic since early 2013 when my then-current laptop got water dripped into it from a weird leak above, and of course refused to work or boot up properly. FORTUNATELY, as everyone tried to reassure me, the hard drive would almost certainly not have been damaged, and simply had to be removed, whereupon it can be put into a "USB case", plugged into another computer, and voila! -- there's all of your data. That experience got me religion, and I've been a good backer-upper ever since.

But I do not want any such thing to happen again, especially with an Apple product because of the way higher expense of replacing anything that wouldn't be covered.
