For Into the Woods, there are about 180 light cues, in addition to the 50 or so sound cues.  I may not have to call the lights.  The young woman who is running the lights has done it before and knows what to do, so it might be easier for her to just set them off on her own.  I've done it that way a few times when I've run lights.

There is one point where I need to leave the booth near the end of the show, so she'll have to set off both her lights and a couple of sound cues.  Fortunately, we're right next to each other in the booth, so that'll be easy.

Today is Memorial Day:  a day for "honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces."  It always surprises me when people say "Happy" Memorial Day? :o

In these parts, Memorial Day, whatever its origin was, is mainly looked at as the unofficial beginning of summer (which seems to have its unofficial end with Labor Day weekend).

THere's a somewhat intense discussion over on the ATC chat board about where the key change actually happens in the Audra McDonald performance of "Some People" on Colbert a few nights ago.

The key change in question seems to be somewhere around 1:50 to 1:58 in this link.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnrYSE6PQsk

One person says it happens between "He was saying to me, Rose" and "Get yourself some new orchestrations.  The other person, who claims to have the actual printed music from the production, says the key change is actually earlier.

The argument is between posters named "proftom" (who seems to be with the show, or at least has the music for the show) and "Chromolume" (who seems to be a music director who works a quite a bit regionally) - Both seem knowledgeable, but really disagree about where the key change is.

The back and forth starts around here, if anyone might find it interesting.
https://www.talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat_new/d.php?id=2623633

I found it interesting, especially in that someone involved with the show (whose ATC screen name is unfamiliar to me) felt a desire to chime in on that, to set the record straight.

At least "proftom" implies he or she is involved with the show; you never REALLY know for sure on an anonymous chat board, though I figure the moderator would chime in if she felt someone were misrepresenting who they are.

At https://www.talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat_new/d.php?id=2623706

"proftom" actually says:

"First off, to your question "who cares?" Obviously, I do.
Secondly, I'm not disagreeing with you about the key change. It just happens earlier than the OP said. You may not hear it until that vocal line. And yes, I do work on that production and no, I'm not emailing you pages."

Hmm, if I had divided that up better, this could have taken us to page 2 before 6 a.m. (Eastern). :)

There seems to be general agreement that Audra McDonald's performance of "Some People" on the Colbert show varies from her performance in the show, a decision which makes sense.

Even on Free-for-all day, that would be a little too much of an extender.

That reminds me of the story (was it by George Carlin, maybe? Or maybe Ed Bluestone?) of the Mom who would mix Tuna Helper with Hamburger Helper, and called it Surf and Turf.

Last night, I watched on Amazon Prime the first two episodes of a British minioseries, Miss Austen, based on the novel by Gill Hornby. After Jane Austen's death, many of her letters were burned by her sister Cassandra, which makes writing a biography of Miss Austen difficult. In 1840 Cassandra returns to the village of Kintbury, where she grew up, to help the daughter of her friend Eliza Fowle clear out her house after her father's death. There, she discovers a collection of letters from Jane to Eliza, whose brother Tom was once engaged to Cassandra, and the letters reveal much about the personal lives of the Austen sisters when they were young, around 1800.

I like the cast a lot. Like the musical Follies, many of the characters ad by two actors as the script jumps forty years from 1840 to the past. An actress named Patsy Ferran plays Jane Austen, and she looks very much like the existing portrait of Jane by Cassandra. She's very quirky and strangely pretty. Her mother and father are played by Phyllis Logan, who was Mrs Hughes in Downton Abbey, and her husband.

This is Cassandra's sketch around 1810, when Jane was 34.
