There is much I need to get off my ASS and do today.

I'm just having a little trouble taking that first step... of, you know, getting off my ASS.

Nice clip DR JOHN G.

I also loved AW as Patsy's mother in Sweet Dreams.

561 Guests on HHW!

What sections of HHW could you be reading, or maybe BK's notes?

Several days ago I was going through some old photos looking for something, and there was one in the wrong section of this file box so I took it out to move it to a better place. But I looked at it for a minute, and it brought to mind a question I've had about exactly where something in Marina del Rey had been located years ago. So I thought, who can I ask? (Actually, one or two of y'all right here might even know! So stay tuned.) I decided that one likely place to ask on Facebook would be this page about the west side of L.A. (one of those "you know you lived in..." groups). It's run by this weird autocratic guy who examines every post before approving them and who likes to rant about submissions that don't follow his various rules and such. Bill somebody. BK might recognize this. He runs that Westwood page, too.

So he released my post SIX DAYS after I'd submitted it. And what happened? In one day it's gotten over a hundred "likes" and nearly that many comments. A couple of people even came close to answering the question I asked. But everyone loved the picture and it generated interest from a few different angles. (It's a shot I took while out flying one day, so other pilots got involved, too.) And I thought, if that one picture can inspire that much actual conversation, and thus far all of it positive, then I'm sitting on a gold mine here. I know I have things that should be scanned and posted, and once in a blue moon I do a couple of things, but then a lot of time goes by before moving on to others. I will also pat myself on the back for not just throwing a picture up there, but for providing some *accurate* detail and context to help inspire the responses I was looking for. Man, I'm good. Anyhoo, give me a few minutes and I'll post it here.

Yikes!  Reading that first in small type on my somewhat little phone, I'd read that as "It's run by this weird autoerotic guy..."

"autocratic" makes much more sense!

Here's the photo, me flying over Marina del Rey and grabbing the shot. Late 70s or early 80s, and I doubt I'll be able to narrow it down any better than that unless I find a group of other such photos it obviously belongs with.

My question was:  Where was Mr. D's Coffee Shop located? It was in its own standalone building. (Also, would the Van de Kamp's coffee shop on Lincoln Blvd. have been in this picture if it still existed then, or would it have been out of frame? That info is easier to come by, and I was mainly interested in finding the Mr. D's location.) I think I got my answer, but if any L.A. peeps here can chime in, please do.

Bruce, I am a bit confused about "Shooter".  You didn't mention what book you were compring it to though it sounded familiar.  Then you mentioned Reacher, not Bob Lee Swagger.  I believe the book is Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter.

DR CHAS SMITH I love the photo and I am glad you are getting a positive response.

EVERYONE should post photographs that they have from the past on the internet to share with everyone else.....you never know who might be waiting for that EXACT photo.

Yes, Point of Impact. I said Reacher wouldn't exist were it not for the success of Bob Lee.

I'm back. I'm not quite sure I was ready to be out for three hours, but I'm back and feel okay. Art's was empty when I got there. Then two idiots came in and they could have seated themselves anywhere but both decided to sit in booths across from me - not directly - one ahead, one behind. People are ridiculous. They both ate and ran, so that was good. As I was finishing up when three older folks walked in - older than me, that is. Like old. The waitress said, "Hi Bill" and then I knew exactly who it was and when he responded to her there really was no mistaking the voice - William Daniels, age ninety-eight, his wife, Bonnie Bartlett, age ninety-six. Didn't recognize the lady they were with.

William Daniels. Fantastic! That's well worth the time (and the big bucks) spent in Art's.

I totally agree, DR Jrand74. I've always held onto the belief that just about every single thing you're looking for IS OUT THERE. Someplace. No matter what it is.

And really, there's nothing extraordinary about that picture. But I just happened to take it that day, and now it's coming up on nearly half a century of memories, for me and whoever. (Of course, I look at a picture I took, and ALWAYS think:  If only I'd captured several more...)

So, if William Daniels had been nominated for best actor in 1776, would he have beaten Jerry Orbach in Promises, Promises?
