Well, you've read the notes, the notes were popping, and now it is time for you to post until the pill-popping cows come home.

Oh, I almost forgot!  I got a link to the video (one camera only from audience right) of the Into the Woods that I stage managed and DR Jed directed.  We can share the link, but can't post it.  Let me know if anyone wants it. :)

Yesterday was a strange one. I had planned to do laundry, only to discover during kitty cleanup that there was no hot water. So, I canceled the laundry and the hot water was off the entire day. It's back this morning. After a good night of sleep. last ndreadful. When the alarm rang at 5:30, I could not find any reason to get out of  bed. so I cuddled with Annabelle and napped for another 45 minutes.

I will hopefully do the laundry tomorrow morning.

In summer 1998, I was working with Harvey and Tom on Mirette at Goodspeed when they lost the rights to Grovers Corner, their musical adaptation of Our Town. The Wilder estate gave them so much time to mount a major production, and they had begged Goodspeed to stage it, butGoodspeed wanted Mirette, which I believe was workshopped there the year before. The director of one regional company had been trying to raise the money with another regional theratre. but the time had run out and Goodspeed was the last chance for Grovers Corner. The Wilder estate pulled the rights.

Something similar happened to Peter Foley; I don't remember the exact details. I believe there was a college per4formance in a New Jersey school, but after that, Dodie Smiths estate - or maybe the film compasny that produced the movie - pulled the rights. One of the last things I did for Peter was to orchestrate one of the songs from I Capture the Castle in the style of a 1930s dance band; he wanted it for his website. He was a dear friend, and I miss him enormously.

I'm taking it easy today. After kitty cleanup, I need to vacuum the apartment. Badly.

I don't suppose there's any hope that the estate can still someday do a turnaround and grant the rights at some point in the future?

The work was completed, was it not?

If the "Our Town" musical version situation was like any typical stage rights deal, it's not a matter of the underlying rights owner doing anything active like pulling the rights, just not doing something active like granting another extension.  So the time runs out before "merger" (as defined in the agreement) happens on whatever rights agreements plus extensions had already been executed - and the underlying right owner deciding not to execute an extension, or an additional extension.

Oh Lordy, this is supposedly our last day of HELL. We're up to 97 degrees or thereabouts for one last broiling day, then sometime tonight and all day tomorrow, the deluge. And tomorrow should top off around 80.

But wait, there's more!

Unless Not-so-AccuWeather is screwed up, Friday looks to be topping off at 70. Then back to 80 for the weekend, which is totally fine.

Wonder whether it mattered that Thornton Wilder was very much alive for the success of "Hello, Dolly!" - but that "Grover's Corners" must have been dealing with Wilder's estate or family members.

Larry, this looks like very good news.  Your book, even though just in pre-order status as of now, is already in the top 100 on Amazon for Humorous American Literature and (to use recording industry language) bubbling under the Top 100 in American Humorous Fiction.

There had been a Chicago dinner theatre production, but I believe the show is now dead for good. I suspect the Wilder estate is happier with Ned Rorem's opera version.
