I'm up - I've only slept about three hours - don't know why and it's annoying. I went back to bed and then woke up about fifteen minutes ago having maybe some kind of allergy attack. I'll do Flonase in a bit and see if that helps.

I've been posting in various Facebook groups and getting lots of likes - sadly, few if any of that results in book sales. I'll never really understand how these things work, unfortunately. And I cannot and won't know about the soft and hardcover sales until I get the royalty check from Author House. The only thing I can track on Amazon is the eBook. I believe that's sold a whopping five copies.

I even tried a book promo thing - the ad runs frequently on Facebook and comes with lots of comments from authors who say it works great. Not too expensive. It has resulted, thus far, in what I truly believe are zero book sales.

I saw an ad for some AI thing that makes ads that supposedly result in six figure book sales. I see ads for every kind of how to sell a zillion books fifty times a day on Facebook. I think all the comments saying it works are bogus, I think none of it works and the people who do these things have just found a nice grift to sucker hopeful and/or needy authors to spend a lot of time and money on these things. If there were some surefire way of doing this, everyone would be on the NY Times best-seller list.

Did you send your press release to Talkin Broadway?

Would they review your book since this book's just about 100% theater music or cabaret show related?

Continuing - I have many, many friends, some that I've known for many decades who have never once attended a Kritzerland show and never once bought a book of mine. The one book that sold really well was Benjamin Kritzer - I hired a terrific publicist, did tons of radio shows and signings, but the real sales came from the then popular classmates.com, where I targeted people who went to the three schools I attended and who lived in the neighborhood. We sold so many books that way - I think I ultimately sold just under a thousand books - I personally went through three hundred of them.

I have no idea who reviews books there anymore. The one book that was reviewed there was Writer's Block. Not even Album Produced by, which is ALL about musical theater. The first memoir did do well and Album Produced by did okay, too.

Most people online never see the posts and don't care anyway. It's always shocking to me how many people STILL don't know about our remix of Follies. Or that we've released other major cast albums. Every time there's a Follies thread about the original recording, I remind people and we always get ten or twenty orders from people saying they never knew about it - it's FIFTEEN YEARS AGO and we weren't exactly silent about the release.

It's an interesting world. One simply can't afford to hire a publicist for three months (the minimum for it to do any good), and you never sell enough to make any of that money back.

And I'm not sure what publicists are left for books, frankly.

And how stupid. Did they think they wouldn't be discovered eventually?

I'm not so sure about his story that we included a tip in the total, so he was cashing the check to get the tip and then would give the rest of the cash to the company.

I don't tip professionals who come to my home. They set their prices.

And it's only going to get worse with this AI crap. Everyone thinks AI is so incredible - well, of course it is for lazy, unfocused generations who don't want to do the actual work - they want everything done FOR them - this is what we've devolved to. And yes, I see fifty ads a day for AI stuff - how it can write your book for you, be your Muse. Uh huh. All a grift.

I think the guy who assembled the barstools was expecting a tip. Sorry, not for those prices.

Is our LLC still in the credits for that?

Big TV and movie names keep coming to Broadway - Carrie Coon, star of THE GILDED AGE, is coming in the play BUG

"Carrie Coon Is Scratching an Itch, Starring in ‘Bug’ on Broadway
The play was written by Tracy Letts, who is married to Coon. It’s about a down-and-out duo for whom motel room insects prompt paranoia."

Freddie, nothing has changed in the Follies booklet since 2010. If you were in it then, you'll always be in it.

From George:

Quote
I'm glad it's not going to rain around here.  I have sanded but unfinished shelves in my back yard, ready for me to stain them to (sort of) match the shelves on my bookshelves.

You had better do it fast, or wait until after the heatwave headed our way.
