The alarm rang at 5:45 and I went back to bed. Surprisingly, Stelladdled with me for 30 minutes before I decided to get up.

DR George, thanks for the post of "Sing for Your Supper." I saw it when PBS first broadcast that Sylvia Fine (Mrs Danny Kaye) series. I loved Kaye Ballard, eho was a dear friend from 1988 to her death. The last time I saw her was when BK recorded Jason Graae's album of Charles Strouse songs.

I've worked as well with both Donna McKechnie, whom I helped organize her music for a Theatre Guild cruise show, and Roberta Peters, whom I've adored since she sang "Glitter and Be Gay" on the Perry Como show around 1964. She also sang with Como the Don Giovanni duet "La ci darem la mano." I got to work with her when she was guesr artist for one of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus holiday concerts. Ahe was one of the best.

And that leads in to Blue Moon, which I very much want to see. I wn't get to it until it turns up on Amazon, Netflix, or DVD, but it's something I'm looking forward to. After Oklahoma!, Rodgers and Hammerstein parted ways; Oscar to adapt Georges Bizet to Carmen Jones, and Rodgers & Hart to revise with Herb Fields A Connecticut Yankee. It was at the opening night of this show that Rodgers had a very drunk Hart forcibly thrown out of the theatre. Hart died five days later on Nov. 22, 1943.

Today is the 82nd anniversary of his death. I think this is the saddest lyric he ever wrote:

TOD:  I assume we're not counting movies made for TV or streaming.

Of what I've seen of movies made for theaters: "The History of Sound" really moved me a great deal.  There were a few slow patches and I felt it didn't need to be over 2 hours, but I found it really powerful.

Yes! I forgot to thank you and DR Singdaw earlier when I saw them this morning. Thanks so much!

We are standing at 21 5-star reviews on Amazon/ I hope the book is still selling.

I was antsy during Blue Moon, but I liked the direction and the performances. I found the movie stayed with me for days after seeing it.

To me, the scene where Hart finally introduces his ideal love to Rodgers is the one that got me. He knows he’s leading his beloved to the slaughter, given Rodgers’ womanizing ways. It was almost as sad as the lyric Larry linked to.

Rodgers was Andrew Scott. Interesting to see a straight actor play the gay Hart and Scott the straight Rodgers. No argument from me that good actors can play all kinds of roles.
