I know this commercial acts like having a boss who knows everything about the employees is a good thing,

But having a boss who behaved like this would be creepy to me

"paycom" commercial
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npsMaQpT7gA

Agreed!  It's one thing for a boss to know most things about their employees' work history, but to just spout out personal things while walking past, that's pretty weird. :P

The Carnegie Hall website says that Jack Viertel's show there in March 2026 was cancelled.

That's too bad. :-\

Washer and dryer are IN and have just completed an initial "clean out" cycle.

Let's all fervently hope this means our long national nightmare is over.

Congrats, ChasSmith!

Eddie wrote “Canadian Sunset” and “Soft Summer Breeze,” and, as his 1950s LP covers will tell you, he lost the ability to use his hands for awhile. But he got it back. This is from 1973 on some private label.

Very cool.

It has been confirmed.

I voted twice last night (using different email addresses) and haven't gotten a confirmation email from either! :o

Interesting. Barbara Cook sounds like she’s on AGT, but she’s having fun. The Best of Times is great. And the video cuts off Hearn before the last word.

My low PT count has gone up from 114 in August to 141 today....the lowest number in the GREEN range is 150 - so I think I am improving.

That's great, Jrand!

I don't think I've seen any video of George Hearn as Zaza in costume.  I've seen still photos, but I don't remember ever seeing video.  Pretty cool...except for the early cutoff of the video. ::)

I never learned pinochle.

Neither have I.  Should I?

I seem to recollect that pinochle was a punchline in something - a show? a comedy album? - but I can't remember what now.

Google's AI offers these thoughts

Pinochle appears in pop culture through its connection to historical and cultural references, such as being the "pinochle of his career" quote about director Michael Curtiz, Hillary Clinton's mention in a 2008 campaign ad, and its appearance in media like the Dungeons and Dragons podcast Dungeons and Daddies. It is also referenced in older media, sometimes as an allusion to "píña coladas" from the Rupert Holmes song, and is a part of modern online and real-world communities.

Historical and political references:

Director Michael Curtiz famously called the film Yankee Doodle Dandy the "pinochle of his career".

During her 2008 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton used the line, "I was raised on pinochle and the American Dream," in a TV ad to evoke a connection to her Pennsylvania roots.

The card game has been the subject of temporary bans and anti-German sentiment in some U.S. cities due to its German heritage, as noted in this Wikipedia article.

Thanks for the info, Freddie!

Thanks to DR FREDDIE and DR RODZINSKI for their comments.

I like to hear "Dobie" sing a song called "I Pass Your House" ... I lip synched it in a talent show and just got more creepy and stalkerish as the song went on....I think I got second place.

I wore a fedora and a raincoat.

Congrats on the win, Jrand.  That's actually a pretty cool prize.

We haven't heard from Iris in a while. I know she is undergoing treatment for cancer. So today's donation is in her honor.

Very sweet idea, Laura.

It's really not a big thing. Usually a quick sting and that's it. The last couple times, the phlebotomists have been so good that I didn't even have a sting. The actual donation is only about five minutes. Then sit around and eat guilt-free snacks for a few minutes.

A former coworker of mine has been donating blood regularly for many years.

I really didn't want to watch a downer with annoying people talking.

According to Google AI - The Thursday Murder Club in 2020, one of two in 2020 to do so. Unfortunately for them, yes, I, BK, was the very first in Murder at the Magic Castle in 2019. Do I get the credit? Nooooo.

There should be a way to rectify this egregious error! >:(
