I have no idea when or where I first had Mexican food. I suspicion it wasn't until I moved to L.A. at age 22, MAYBE the year before when I first visited California for a week, but I don't remember it at any time or place in my life before that. Which seems odd. But back then, maybe not.
Worse, I have no idea where in L.A. I did have my first, or what exactly I had. It was most likely fast food, I do recall my first quesadilla at an El Taco. Of course that wouldn't have been much of a quesadilla, but I thought it was delicious. Living right behind Hollywood Blvd., I must have sampled things from here and there, I just wish I had some actual memories of what those first things would have been. I do know that one of my earliest sit-down chains was Red Onion, which I loved, and El Torito was another. But I've loved Mexican food from those first days on. It's one of those things I really could eat every day.
